History

Early Life

From an extremely early age, it was very apparent that U'mina had an innate affinity for all things magic. It thrilled her mother, who spent most of her time doting upon her daughter and honing her craft. She made U'mina swear to keep her skills a secret, warning her that if ever she was discovered, someone might try to take her away from her family. The young Seeker believed her mother, and so she kept quiet.

On a visit to Ul’dah, U'mina met a little boy of no more than five or six with tanned skin, messy brown hair, unkempt clothes, and dark eyes. The two became fast friends, racing and playing through the streets and giggling their cares away. One day, upon another visit, U'mina showed him her gift. It was nothing spectacular, no more than a makeshift, flaming butterfly floating high into the night sky before disappearing into smoke. He was impressed, thrilled.

The little boy turned up in the sewers not a day later, cold, pale, and dead. U'mina never shared her gift again.

Born to Vheksir Nunh and U'nali Ruxho, U'mina was not Vheksir’s first-born, but was U'nali’s. Through Vheksir, U'mina shared several half-siblings, but she never once learned the identity of them. But her mother... From her sun-kissed skin, to her raven hair, to her striking, golden eyes, U'mina could have been U'nali in her younger years several times over, and that was precisely what U'nali hoped for. U;mina was U'nali's second chance, a rebirth, even if the notion was beyond unfair to her daughter. U'nali taught U'mina a way of life outside of the Forgotten Springs at a very young age. She taught her how to weave her own clothes, to steal from certain merchants when they weren’t looking, to cry and lie on the streets until some unaware, concerned passerby came close enough for her to steal his riches and run off. She was everything U'nali wanted and more, but still, not quite enough.

As U'mina grew, so did her beauty, affinity for magic, and her skills for subterfuge. U'nali saw naught more than gil when she looked at her daughter, and so her intentions for the girl changed. On top of her tutoring in magic, she began to groom her. She taught her how to play at nobility, to sew finer clothes, to earn the attention of more than the common street rat. U'mina followed her mother’s instruction to a T, raking in gil for the two of them until they could uproot themselves from their tiny hovel in the Springs to a rather lavish home in Ul'dah. On the eve of her fifteenth birthday, U'mina and her mother were invited to masquerade ball hosted by the Farrar family. She was introduced to all of them and left with the eldest son, Selwyn, while U'nali and his mother ventured off to talk. The two spent the evening talking and dancing. By the time the night was over, U'mina was absolutely smitten.

A good thing, that. She awoke the next morning to her finest clothes laid out at the foot of her bed and all of her belongings packed into bags on the floor. She was leaving, her mother told her. She was to be married.

She was to be Selwyn Farrar’s bride.
