Ordinarily, she keeps her long black hair tied back out of the way in a messy bun or a loose side braid, but prefers to let it fall freely anytime she is alone. Physique & Markings What she lacks in stature, she makes up for in agility and her keen eye for marksmanship. Vhena was taught archery from a young age and has thus developed more muscle in her arms and shoulders primarily as she has matured. Given her past service as a Bard of the Twin Adder, she does have some few battle scars, however she prefers to keep them covered and few have gotten a good look at them. Hygiene & Attire Vhena maintains a well-kept appearance as much as she can, but isnt afraid to get dirty if the occasion calls for it. Warm baths are her preferred way to unwind after a long day, and she will stay in and soak for as long as she possibly can. She prefers rich darker colors as of late, and can usually be seen wearing a loose long sleeve blouse and more form-fitting bottoms. Personality Psychological Profile Vhena has a natural tendency to be very loving and nurturing like her own mother was, however trauma in her life has made her more reserved and slower to form lasting bonds with the people she comes in contact with. As a bard, her love of stories and entertaining the common folk is a large part of her life- but after fighting in two wars and nearly loosing her entire family, Vhena cares for two things over all else: her remaining family, and the power to protect them. She is absolutely terrified of the though of loosing anyone else and it can push her into an almost feral state if that fear is given substance. Voice Charlee Brooks Philosophy & Mannerisms Having grown up witnessing the injustices in Ishgard, she has little faith in the "proper" authorities to do what they are sworn to. Vhena believes that Halone does not directly intervene in the matters of men like most are led to believe, but instead empowers her chosen to act in her stead. The combination of these two beliefs often leads her to take justice into her own hands as a voice of the people- consequences be damned. Vhena has never been able to fully shake her formal upbringing, and it often shows in how she carries herself during her daily activities. She is wont to ignore everything else around her when presented with a good story; whether it be spoken or written. Though she hides it as best as she can, bright flashes of light and sudden loud noises still cause her to flinch away or stiffen harshly. History The information in this section will not generally be known unless Vhena mentions it. There are exceptions ie: occupation and nationality, but it is always better to ask first before using! Disclaimer: This section is a wip and will be edited frequently. Sixth Astral Era The Early Years Firstborn to the head of a lesser Ishgardian house, Vhena stood to inherit her family’s livestock business and was taught her responsibilities from a very young age. Unlike her younger brother, Vhena’s childhood was filled with musty books and cramped desks as private tutor after private tutor drilled the basics of business, mathematics, and beastkin into her head until there was hardly room for much else. She had always been a well behaved and obedient child, but as Vhena grew, so did her father’s lofty expectations for her and by the time she reached her seventeenth summer, the only things she could take true joy from were her weekly archery lessons and the quiet afternoons spent outside tending the sheep with Nael. But Vhena could not continue under such pressure forever, and her ability to stand tall for the sake of duty would soon falter. It was the Autumn of her seventeenth year, just before she came of age, when her world came crashing down around her. One morning while Vhena's mother, Reine, was out with the flock, a dragon horde came down from the highlands and attacked their lands. Although Vhena and Nael both fought desperately to save her, there was nothing they could do to stop the rain of dragonfire. Grief stricken, their father Ives blamed Vhena for the tragedy and the loss of their livestock, claiming she was too weak to save her own mother and therefore not fit to be Head of House Valdestia. Vhena's mother had been a pillar of strength, reason and unconditional love throughout her formative years, and now without Reine there to guide her, she took her father's accusations to heart. Without livestock to tend and make a living off, Vhena turned to hunting to provide for her family and hone her skills in archery. She lost herself in her training, vowing to become strong enough to protect her house and never loose anyone she loved again. Promises and Ambition The following winter, after a particularly volatile argument with her father, she decided there was nothing left for her there and despite her brother's pleading, struck off south towards the Black Shroud. She had been hoping to find counsel with one of Gridania's legendary bowmen, but the blizzard her brother had warned of found her first. If not for a young knight stationed in the central highlands who chanced upon her, Vhena might very well have frozen to death. The two became fast friends while they waited out the storm at Camp Dragonhead, and once it had subsided he escorted her to the border, wishing her well until they met again. Once Vhena reached Gridania safely, she took up residence in The Roost and enlisted in the Archer's Guild as soon as she was able, taking up odd jobs here and there to pay for her lodgings. She dedicated herself night and day to her training, and after a year's time the God's Quiver took note of her skill and dedication to the city-state she now called home. Being no stranger to the Ixal, they would recruit her help from time to time, but it was not until the Order of the Twin Adder was reestablished that she formally joined the ranks of Gridania's military force out of gratitude for the city-state. Seventh Umbral Era Vetran When Vhena awoke in the chirurgeon's infirmary nearly three weeks after Carteneau, she found herself with several new scars, but somehow still alive. Her superiors recounted the battle and praised her valor- calling it divine providence that she had survived, but when she lay alone at night and the nightmares came, she could only see it as a curse. Several months passed before she was finally released from the healers' care and allowed to return to her old routines. For a while, she did try. She tried to put on a smile and go back to her watch duties with the Adder, but everywhere she looked she saw reminders of the ones they had lost that day: an empty seat here, a dusty lance there, a mother passing the barracks and turning away quickly when they made eye contact- all of this served as a harsh reminder that things could not be as they once were for Vhena. And so she found herself spending more and more of her off hours frequenting Buscarron's alehouse, trying to drown out the memories that haunted her with all manner of drinks. This could very well have continued on for years if not for a chance meeting with an old bard one afternoon at Buscarron's request. He had sent her off towards Quarrymill, wine bottle in hand, to find a man named Jehantel who was passing through and had set up camp in the woods nearby. Despite her misgivings, she had delivered the bartender's gift and found herself easily striking up conversation with the old elezen. From then on she spent many a night listening to the stories of his travels, listening to his songs, and telling a few of her own. Eventually this led to Vhena expressing interest in becoming a Bard to the old man, and he acquiesced on the condition that she give up her drinking habits. Return to Ishgard words. They were reunited shortly before the Dragonsong war when the Dragoon visited Gridania in search of information on an Ishgardian fugitive. In search of a new purpose following the end of Ishgard's conflict with dragonkind, he has offered his service to the Alliance war effort. Rosette Valdestia, Daughter. ( ✔ ) . At nearly three summers, Rosette is the spitting image of her late father and an endless source of comfort for her mother. She is often found playing with other children in the Brume during the day or "helping" the innkeeper while Vhena is performing at the Forgotten Knight. She is one of the few things her mother has left to remember Flavien by, and Vhena can and will go to any length to protect her. Acquaintances Former Acquaintances Deceased Ives Valdestia, Father. After the dragon attack that both destroyed their livelihood and took the life of his first wife, Reine, he became obsessed with the four High Houses and their fortune. Reine Valdestia, Mother. First wife of Ives, and biological mother of Vhena and Nael, Reine did her best to raise her children in a positive and nurturing home despite her husband's influence. She was a pillar of strength to young Vhena and her death impacted her daughter the most out of everyone in their family. Flavien Merle, Fiancé. ( ♥ ✔ ) . Character's Thoughts: "Rosette will know what her father died for." Vhena and Flavien first met the selfsame day she ran away from home, but the young knight did not have a chance to form a lasting bond with her until she returned to Coerthas some six odd years later. Having proposed to her in the year following, they were due to be wed once the Dragonsong War had come to and end- but it was not meant to be. Flavien died protecting his love in the fallout from Ishgard's true history being brought to light.
