Appearance

Khael sports somewhat-tanned skin, silver eyes, and fiery hair that's been streaked with a burnt orange. He's rather tall, and tends to wear any clothing that's non-restrictive. He rarely carries any visible weapons, but always seems to be able to pull a knife or small pistol from sheer air.

History

Pre-Calamity

Khael had a rather happy childhood, despite displaying signs of an anxious, introverted, and callous nature from early on - to observers, at least. For whatever reason, though he was able to somewhat sense aetherial traces, he spent much of his early years learning to ignore this, and training to become a hunter. He and his sister were raised by their parents and their separate tribes, making trips between the Silver Spire Coven house and the W Tribe's lands monthly. For a while, despite the need to rest after being around people for a long Time, he was happy.

Aaaaaand then, the murders began.

S'ami had already returned to the S Tribe for the season when it happened, but Khael made the unfortunate choice of staying behind a bit longer to ask his mother some questions about her conjury. Unfortunately, due to this, Khael walked in on a horror that he'll never be able to unsee or unfeel. He tried desperately to revive his parents, but was unlucky, and the Coven was unable to help. Terrified and devastated, he and the Coven called S'ami back for the burials, but didn't apprise her of the details - those, he kept to himself. Then, when all was done, despite their refusal, he and S'ami were split up to their parents' separate tribes. He was then raised by his tribe for the next year, and, when Dalamud first reddened the sky, he was off 'hunting' for them.

Except, he wasn't hunting, and that wasn't something that he would have said in the past. Rather, Khael, despite putting on a callous demeanor, actually has one of the sweetest hearts you'd ever find - hurting anything is beyond him. So, after getting into an argument with his adoptive trainers about this - and other things - he went out on a 'hunt' to find and pet as many animals in the Black Shroud as he could.

And then, freakin' Bahamut ruined everybody's funtimes, like a big ol' scaly lizard nerd.

Post-Calamity

When the Calamity hit, Khael was knocked unconscious by the gods' forsaken overflow of aether. For the next few weeks after waking up, he spent his days like a literal ghost, drifting around the Black Shroud and barely even being conscious enough to be reminded to pick a berry every now and then. The aether of the Calamity flooded his system with constant pain and voices, only finally starting to dull after maybe a month of him walking around in a near-catatonic (CAT-ataonic) fugue state.

Luckily for Khael, a month was all it took for the travellers Aya Numi and S'ami to find him and basically slap him back into some sort of consciousness. Aya and S'ami revealed that they were wandering mages, learning about the planet in the days following the Calamity to protect people from the Darkness that now swarmed the land. Aya promised that they would try to figure out how to dull the Calamity's pain if he came with them, and so, he did, and they travelled Eorzea in search of any knowledge that might come their way. Their mission became knowledge for the sake of knowledge, and the darker the magic involved the better. As they went, Aya taught Khael to defend himself with knives that he learned to imbue using his unique aether, and S'ami taught him a wicked sort of cleverness that he took to particularly quickly. When it was revealed that S'ami was actually his twin sister, their similar personalities only made that much more sense. He accompanied her back to her tribe so that they could understand why the two were separated - when it was revealed that their parents had died in an aetherial fire, Khael was struck low, but he tried to keep a pep in his step.

Now that Aya, S'ami, and W'khael have acquired a house in Ul'dah, Khael has begun to become more aware of his almost telepathic reality. Aya operates their house as a sort of temporary hotel for travellers and adventurers, and Khael has learned to take on one aether at a Time. He doesn't quite know why S'ami was gifted with fiery brilliance and a knowledge of languages, and he doesn't know why he was gifted with a strange sort of aetherial telepathy, but he's started to become more comfortable with the aethers that he feels - in small doses, of course. He can understand the history of an object, which has led to him being a careful handler of enchantments - he's been known to deftly juggle Rank VIII materia because he handles it so well. For now, he's content to read, study, practice his knifework in the shadows, and laze around under the warm Ul'dah sun like the kitty he is.

Present

Personality

To someone he first meets, Khael will come across one of three ways: very flirtatious, very peppy, or very devious. All three are part of his base personality, of course.

Though it may not be obvious when first meeting him, Khael's personality will change depending on his location, his surroundings, and who else is in the room, as threads of all personalities and histories will begin unintentionally bleeding into his own. This is mostly muted whenever he's in the presence of someone he's close to, however; currently, this is only S'ami.

If you get to know Khael, and he is more comfortable around you - or you catch him unawares and he has no Time to switch into a peppy attitude - you'll find that he's actually a very calm individual.

Despite this, Khael is still caring; if an ally is in trouble, he'll rush to their aid with very little second thought.

  • (PC) Aya Numi: Khael first met Aya Numi at the age of 15. He's been travelling with her basically ever since, and she's a mentor and master to him. Despite being somewhat afraid of her, he also greatly respects her. He's become aware that she's not quite a normal Scholar, but he's not exactly about to ask her about it... Regardless, he's almost always going to be reporting back to her, whenever anything interesting happens.

  • (PC) S'ami Malkoh: S'ami, despite being just a close friend all throughout their childhood, means quite a lot to Khael. She's the only one currently able to cancel out his empathy, and now that he knows just who she is, he feels even more protective of her. He's currently, of course, stalking her and basically convincing her that he's a ghost, but we're going to ignore that for now.

  • (PC) Renia Folmah: A Miqo'te working with the Limsa Lominsa Barracuda. She helped him get out of a totally unfair searching, and he helped her from soldiers who were harassing her. Ever since, they've been running into each other on their various trips.

Other Notes

Religion

Khael isn't very religious himself after being around Aya for so long. He believes in other planets outside of their own, however, and will never chastise anyone for their beliefs, though he may playfully taunt them.

Quirks

  • Seeing the history/emotions tied to many objects often leaves him unable to, not only differentiate between their emotions and his own, but also to occasionally be unable to tell the difference between living things and inanimate objects.
  • He'll pretend to be a ghost, because A: his aura is confusing to conjurers/mages, and B: he's good at hiding. Like... really good.
  • He's very flirtatious - with anyone and everyone - and will often act masochistic if you return his banter for long enough. It's all fun and games, of course! ...Probably.
  • He'll often get into fights with inanimate objects.
  • He'll often get into conversations with inanimate objects.
  • He talks to the walls, guys.

Known Haunts

  • Panda-Chan's Palace (Goblet, Ward 1 Plot... 7? I'll check, sorry!))
