Prehistory

Before there was Y'shida, there was her father, Y'uri Tia. Originally hailing from Y tribe in the Shroud, Y'uri left to seek his own fortune. To this end, he traveled to the outlawish seas surrounding Limsa Lominsa where he began work as a humble swabbie on a pirate vessel. Ever one for greater ambitions, he rose through the ranks of his crew and eventually became captain of his own pirate crew, whether it be by negotiation, or by force. Christening his ship The Red Reaches, he started leading his own raids. Y'uri thus established a name for himself as a fearsome sailor of the seas, plundering ships with great ferocity. He became feared, well known around the seas of Limsa Lominsa. Though he did eventually reign in his ways, he is still a powerful force to be reckoned with.

But this story isn't about Y'uri. Once while the venerable pirate captain was sailing across the seas, he happened across a partying vessel of nobility. Ever the opportunist, he readied his crew to assail the ship. Though they didn't kill anyone, they quickly overwhelmed the guard and held the place up for gold, food, and riches. But one prize caught his eye more than any other. Among these nobles was a beautiful servant girl, who chaffed under their servitude. Struck by her beauty, Y'uri offered a safe space for her on his ship, and the miqo'te servant girl agreed. Her name was T'ana Oros. She and Y'uri began their lives together, and though she had a period of adjustment to her life as a pirate crew member, she quickly adapted to the newfound freedom.

Months later, and T'ana was pregnant, carrying their child. It was a delicate time, but being outlaws, they found it difficult to go landward for help. As such, they decided to take their chances with an at-sea birth, using their meager medical supplies and their ships most medically knowledgeable crew-member, First Mate Aesyrvynn Trachynhund. Though the birth was successful, the trauma left T'ana beyond recovery, and she shortly passed away afterwards. Y'uri named the child Shida, after his own mother he had lost. Her full name, Y'shida Uri.

Formative Years

Shida grew up on a ship, raised by her father and the First-Mate. Even as a young child, she become a member of the crew, often helping clean the ship or helping cook the food. Not involved in the raids, she lived a rather spoiled life as the favored crew member of her father. By some, she was dubbed a pirate princess, living well off the stolen gold and goods her father brought aboard. But, being raised by pirates isn't without its rough and tumble. Being a rambunctious jackass growing up, she ended up sustaining more than a few injuries. Such include a scar on her ankle from when she "tried to zip-line across the ship with a cutlass", fell, and broke something. Another includes a scar across her cheek she got while she and the other crew members were trying to wrestle a fished up shark on the deck into submission.

But things were not all slacking off. Her father kept a careful eye, and felt he owed it to T'ana to give Shida a better life. As such, along with the usual plundering goods, he stockpiled books and educational materials. Under the tutelage of First Mate Trachyhund, Shida received an education, albeit a spotty and odd one at best. This period of her life is where she picked up much of her habits. The threat of scurvy meant lots of oranges, a treat she still loves today. And the months at sea means she truly treasures her time on land and on beaches. And of course, many of the more standard Limsan habits, like love of the ocean and a peculiar accent.

This was her life for a good 13 or 14 years. Until, one day, her and the crew stumbled across a remote island. While taking the opportunity to shore leave, explore, and relax on this beach island, they found it to be oddly rich in sand buried golden treasure. Coins, goblets, necklaces, all buried only a few inches on the beach. However, with a few minutes of observation First-Mate Trachyhund made a conclusion: this island belonged to a sea-witch, and they should drop anything they picked up and leave. Being the scamp she is, Shida didn't drop her treasure and brought it back onto the boat. A storm brewed up, and the crew found themselves suddenly assailed by ghoulish ghost pirates climbing aboard their ship. While they fought the crew, they were really after the treasure Shida stole. Though the crew put up a valiant fight, one of the ghosts got to Shida, sliced at her, and took back the treasure. Injured, Y'shida Uri bled out on the ship.

Not wanting to lose his daughter, Y'uri called out to the very same sea witch that killed her for a bargain. She appeared, looming over the crew like a specter. She offered her a life of service, plundering the seas in her name, so long as she brought Shida back to life. The witch agreed, sealing Shida's wound, but cursing Y'uri and his crew a fate of sailing the seas for an eternity, save for 1 week of the year where he is of free will. Then, she disappeared, and the storm dissipated. Knowing he was now bound to the sea forever, Y'uri decided it was time to set Shida on her own path, away from the boat. Using whatever time he had left, he brought Shida to La Noscea, and had her dropped off on the Limsa Lominsa docks. Then, he sailed away, leaving the young miqo'te on land alone. This would be the last time they see each other for many, many years.

Sibling Saga

Lost, alone, and afraid, Y'shida did not do so well her first few days in Limsa Lominsa. She found herself intimidated by the people, who cared significantly less for her than anyone of the crew. She soon found herself wandering the streets for scraps of food and coin. Only a few days later, she was knee deep in a trashcan behind the Bismark, looking for tossed meals. Though, a turn of fate would offer her a new opportunity. She was spotted by the two miqo'te siblings, A'kira Kann and A'fen Tia, two exiles from the A tribe. Kira, the obvious leader of the siblings, took pity on Y'shida. Both of them were older than Shida, by a good 6 years, but nevertheless took her in as a new 'goon'.

The A siblings were also scroungers, of sorts, but got what they wanted through cunning and smarts. In short, they were con artist. Kira was the thinker, always coming up with some scatter-brained scheme so that they two of them can get some coin and live another day. Fen was the face of group, often doing the talking, charming, or if need be, strong-arming. And Y'shida was the specialist. Her peculiar range of skills left her quite adept and getting places the other's couldn't, and her youth and cute looks were integral in scamming a few people out of their money.

This was another 4 year era, and events therein include Shida getting drunk the for the first time, leaping from upper Limsa Lominsa to elbow drop a shark in the elbow below, or that one time Kira threw a birthday party for Fen where the stripper that jumped out of the cake actually exploded. Into gore. Woah. It also includes many moments of the two siblings and their new adopted sister eeking by a meager existence by charming their way into people's homes, eating their food, using their bed, and leaving. It was a humble life, but the trio persevered together. Today, they are still bound together by the countless stories and situations they got into during this period. Shida also learned how to hone some of her skills at this time. Often utilizing whatever fresh food they could buy, she was the trio's de facto chef.

Eventually, Shida learned of a surprising amount of wealth left in her name. As it turns out, her father had gotten to keep some of his plundered treasure, but ended up sending it to Limsa Lominsa for years instead. As such, Y'shida had some accumulated wealth, and the siblings had decided it was time to seek new fortunes. Fen journeyed to Coerthas, where he would train under the elezen knight Terronar, eventually taking that as a last name. Kira left to find her passions, incidentally doing a cavalcade of odd jobs, such as Sewer Slime Exterminator. Eventually, Kira would focus and study, honing her skills as a doctor of sorts. As for Shida, she took her new found wealth and decided to use it to explore the world. She used it to hire a bodyguard, an Ala Mhigan refugee warrior going by Anri Demonhowl, and set off on a grand journey.
