An enthusiastic, good-natured mage of considerable talent and skill, Fiona's peculiarly Ishgardian mannerisms and roots make her unusual among sorcerers, and her devotion to building a 'better world' marks her as one beyond the typical. Ever dreaming of higher heights and greater causes, Fiona's head is not so firmly in the clouds that she misses the land for it.

Appearance
Hair & Eyes
Raven black hair, thick and slightly glossy, smooth and slightly wavy. Bright blue eyes that seem so bright as to almost glow from within in the right lighting.
Physique & Markings
Fiona's build is lithe and graceful, with long limbs, and the softness of good eating and self-care tempered by the muscular strength of a trained longtime combatant. Beyond her iconic cheek mole, the witch features some unusual marks running up her arms and shoulders to terminate at her upper back, resembling delicately-traced arcane circles, sigils and runes that shine with a faint inner glow akin to the blue of her eyes. She has a scar across the front of her neck, suggesting a slit throat, along with a strange ring-shaped scar in the centre of her chest. Her inner forearms also feature a fine network of scars, but most are concealed by the luminous markings. She features a few other odd anomalies here and there- her fingers and toes are tipped with sharp claws, her teeth are long and sharp, and fine patches of unusually shimmery or shiny skin can be seen here and there, with more appearing if in emotional duress.
Hygiene & Attire
Fiona is impeccably well-kept, keeping herself almost fastidiously clean, her hair well-brushed and styled, and with subtle makeup to try to bring out her eyes and her pleasant features all the more. Her clothing is invariably high-quality and fashionable but comfortable, the witch more prone to nod to comfort than to absolute fashion. Her typical colours include ink blue, black, silver, and red, and her fashion choices almost always are very covering, usually only baring her hands and face. Her nails are long and sharp and kept painted vivid colours like blue or red.
Personality
General Personality
Fiona is often described as erratic, eccentric, reckless and thoughtless, but well-meaning. Outwardly an optimistic, enthusiastic and curious young woman, she carefully conceals a deeply troubled soul divided from childhood between two worlds. With good intentions and sometimes terrible methods, Fiona attempts to do her best to make for a better world, even if it often leaves her suffering for it.
As a girl, Fiona learned duty and devotion, while slowly growing to loathe herself for her mixed heritage. Despite kind parents, she was of class where her skills, her mind, and her body were all honed for the defense of Coerthas' people, and so she learned to put herself aside in pursuit of greater goals. This has stuck with her even turns later, after the Calamity took her to Ishgard, after the War's end saw her flee. She puts the greater good over herself to her own detriment, even as she makes morally questionable decisions, taps into powers she should not, and crusades against Voidsent, Ashkin, and those that would wield them.
Even now, Fiona, experiencing something of the first time she had to really learn herself, know herself, and live for herself, still quietly hates and punishes herself for the mere act of existence and the sins she bears. Still. She does her best- if not just for herself, than for those she loves and calls friends. She means well, even if she delves into darkness, for who cares what happens to her if the end is right enough?
Voice
Fi's pleasant, even mid-tone voice is strongly marked by her Old Elezen accent, clearly placing her as a rural Coerthan. Bilingual by raising, and still primarily thinking in Old Elezen, she often slips into the tongue if she can't remember a Common word, or as an exclamation, and so her speech is distinct by both accent and vocabulary.
Philosophy & Mannerisms
Fiona subscribes to a sort of odd cynical optimism. She hopes for the best, but prepares for the worst, and so has managed to weather many terrible events in her life without breaking entirely. Contingencies and an almost paranoid clinging to her secrets are met by being very outward with others, and she can come across as both wise and wary and surprisingly childish in equal measure.

Non-Combat Abilities
Linguist: Fiona's an avid study of all sorts of ancient and dead languages. Whether it's Amdapori, Mhachi, Nymian, Allagan, Belah'dian or even Dragonspeak, chances are she can figure out how to translate it, if not speak it outright.
Alchemist: An education in herbalism and alchemy from an early age means Fiona is very well-versed in much 'utility' medicines. Whether it's eye-drops, ethers, potions or antivenoms, she frequently bears and carries a fair stock of the goods with her in the field and off. And with understanding of such includes knowledge of how they work, so she's a useful hand when dealing with unknown chemicals.
Archaeologist: The witch's eager delving into history makes her a good hand at uncovering, and preserving, the relics of the past. She's a fine sketch artist and draft artist with a good sense of space, helpful when making maps and architectural drawings, and familiarity with techniques magical and otherwise used to seal doors and chambers means she's pretty good at breaking in, too.
Chirurgeon: Battlefield experience followed by more directed education in the Matron's Reach means Fiona is a rather skilled mundane chirurgeon. Her interest in biology and its interactions with magic and mundane alike only furthered that, and she is a skilled medical practitioner as a result, capable of mending injuries mundane and aetherial.
Keeper of Secrets: A lifetime of collecting information means Fi is a remarkable resource on a wide variety of subjects. With a burgeoning library filled with tomes on ancient history, to linguistics, to even cooking recipes and fiction, the witch knows quite a lot and can find out even more. She specializes in the Fifth Astral Era and its people, but maintains a fair heap of lore on Allag, on Dravanians, and on medicine human and otherwise. She is familiar with enough Voidsent and Ashkin to qualify as a voidmath, but has not been certified as such.
Combat Abilities
Sage: Fiona's ravenous hunger for and interest in magic of all kinds ensured that she didn't stop with her education in 'hedge magic'. With numerous mentors, teachers, and opportunity to learn assorted arts, plus an intense affinity for magic and the understanding thereof, Fiona has managed to cobble together sorceries of a vast array of sources into something mostly functional and uniquely her own. Best described as a mash of 'old' thaumaturgy, with focus on deep umbral and deep astral states of aether, with blood magic, arcanima and elementalism, Fi has a strong and intuitive grasp of aether tempered by precise and potent control of its flows and finely-attuned aetherial senses. That she even has begun to incorporate Dravanian words and songs into it might be subject of interest to the perceptive.
OOC Note
I generally prefer to plan out how combats go in advance unless they're simple sparring sessions or Grindstone-style contests, where random dice rolls are best. This is mostly just because I tend to avoid fighting unless there's narrative purpose behind it, or unless it's background to character development. Fi is a peaceful witch and does her best.

History
Disclaimer: Anything written here are things that have occurred in-character and may include heavy spoilers. Proceed with caution!
Sixth Astral Era
Childhood
In the Eastern Lowlands of Coerthas, the Delaine family were one of the primary member families of House Serevaine, a low house primarily responsible for the defense of the Coerthan heartlands from raiders and beasts descending from Abalathia and Gyr Abania. Born to the elezen Baron Antoinel Delaine, chief of his family, and Anastasia Delaque, his wife of hyuran extraction, Fiona was the fourth of six children in the union. Far from Ishgard itself, the mixed marriage was not nearly as scandalous as it might have been, even if the child still received odd looks from her peers within the House. She was raised as most of her class: Expected to enter the knighthood, her childhood was marked by weapons training, lessons and regular visits to the church. What marked her as unusual, however, was the manifestation of magical ability from her time as a toddler, when an upset Fiona almost set fire to her bed by emotion alone. Fortunately for her, the Delaques and Delaines both had a history of producing mages, and her mother and paternal grandmother both had the ability and experience to teach her. Far from the monasteries, schools and universities, Fiona's tutoring came in the form of the classical mentor-and-apprentice system, intuitive and ritualistic alike, that focused on helping her hone and control her natural inclinations over coaxing her toward any particular art. Unfortunately, her martial training and magical training alike occupied most of her days, leaving her a dull and distant child despite attempts by Anastasia to kindle her daughter's imagination and heart. She was intended as garrison for the Dawn Vigil, and so she had to be the best.

Diligent, talented, and driven to succeed and exceed despite her lacking size compared to her brothers, Fiona was well on her way to becoming a house knight when the Calamity hit. The Eastern Lowlands took it terribly: In a matter of days, the verdant region was frozen over, its lakes turned to ice and the fields that fed Ishgard left little more than frigid tundra. With little else they could do, the tattered remnants of House Serevaine gathered what survivors they could and staggered their way to the city proper. The Delaines, left as one of the only hale remnants of the Serevaines, became ascendant as the leading family in the House, and yet owed House Durendaire service. With Nidhogg's Horde returning in earnest, they found themselves deployed against an enemy they'd avoided for centuries: The dragons.

Seventh Umbral Era
Adulthood
Fiona proved herself a valiant and skilled combatant even as a young woman, her relentless training and the anger she felt from the Calamity's cruel coming something she was able to, knowing nothing better, blame on the dragons. Even the disdain others showed her for her heritage was something she projected on the dragons and their servants, further fueling her ire and fury in battle. In a handful of skirmishes with the heretics serving the dragon Skjoldrsormr, she excelled as a battle-mage, earning the interest of Inquisitor Henri de Beauclair, whom was in the area hunting the selfsame heretics. When Beauclair offered her a position in his retinue, Fiona agreed, eager to do more and be more than merely a knight. It was thus that she became Beauclair's Seeker of Truth, an occultist and researcher more than merely a warrior.

She took well to the work: Though a skilled warrior, she bristled at being side-by-side with men who found her a disgusting aberration. Under Beauclair, Fiona learned more of the intricacies of magic and its application in extracting truth from the unknown. Fiona worked under Beauclair for almost six turns. As Beauclair was a radical who thought understanding the enemy was key to destroying him, her tasks included observing the transformation of dragonsblood-dosed heretics, the dissection and vivisection of dragonkin and scalekin, and the relentless delving into the black occult that quietly stirred a spark of fascination within the little witch herself. As the years continued mounting and her burning wrath slowly subsided, she began to look upon the beasts and upon the arts of heretics with more interest than merely thirst for destruction, seeking to understand them both more closely that she might combat them. Bordering on heretical herself, and with a terrible trail of blood in her wake, it was only Fiona's absolute faith in Halonic doctrine that kept her sure she was on the right path.

In Recent Times
Moving Forward
And then the War ended and the truth of the Orthodoxy's lies came out.
Fiona, who was reliant on her faith to keep herself stable and sane with all she had done, who latched on to faith to guide her through her own miserable life as a half-breed mongrel in Ishgard, promptly broke. The 'disbandment' of her laboratory left her all the more adrift, no longer an Inquisitorial acolyte, no longer with purpose, no longer with something to cling to. She made some poor life choices to try to, in her collapsing worldview, 'redeem' herself, and promptly fled Ishgard a few suns later. Trying to get as far away from Ishgard as possible without venturing into enemy territory, like Abalathia, Dravania, or Gyr Abania, Fiona picked her way all the way down to Vylbrand, where she finally started to get to her feet. Not willing to give up and give in, to die or be unmade, she flailed around in finding what work she could, until falling into the company of a certain miqo'te archmage who, recognizing something in the aimless witch, gave her a place to get on her feet.
And that was exactly what Fiona needed. With her friendship with a girl named Anhe of coincidentally similar appearance as the binding factor, the mage allowed Fiona to stay close, and by extension for the first time in her life actually explore who she was and figure out where she stood. Many misadventures followed as Fiona felt out her place in the world and finally came to some terms and peace with herself. Now, turns later, she's finally made an effort to rejoin Ishgard and reconnect with the family she fled, leaving the Academy to swear her service to house de Bayle.

RP Limits
I like to consider myself a flexible player who is willing to commit to a number of different types of scenes and role-play scenarios, but even I have my limits. If something is on the play list, assume it means yes, as long as it's within the context of the current play or ongoing plot. No's are typically a hard no, and it means don't ask.

While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP, unless I'm actively spamming PvE content.

Player Note
There is a lot of information on this character wiki, but it is by no means completely comprehensive. There are chunks of backstory that are left intentionally vague so that details can be later added as developed through creative writing or in role-play revelation. Feel free to use Common or Uncommon rumors freely, if you want to use a Rare Rumor as a plot hook or to spark RP, I would ask that you send me a tell first, to make certain it's alright.

A trope is a convention or device that is often found in creative works. In this case, the tropes below describe my character either in part, or as a whole. Their background, personality, appearance, etc, most of them can be described in the tropes below.
Trope Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés.
