Basic Info
At an unimposing five fulms, Kaiya was a typical, lean, pale-skinned, white-haired Miqo'te. Her eyes were blue, with round pupils characteristic of Keepers of the Moon and almost everyone else. Thin, tribal streaks were drawn across the side of her face. Her usual attire was well kept, and she was rarely seen without a pair of round glasses on her face and a grimoire at her side.
She keeps a particular formality around her, oftentimes struggling to remember using informal nicknames in place of a simple Mister or Miss. Her standing posture was straight, chin held high, arms often held in front of her or behind her with her hands lightly clasped. She frequently adjusted her glasses, though it has become more habit than necessity. Her tail remained almost completely still by default, but her ears still moved frequently to pick up the sounds around her.
History
At a young age, Kaiya's parents uncharacteristically took her to the Arcanist's Guild and left her within their care. Given her age and experience with the world, she was unaware of how abnormal her presence was as a Keeper of the Moon. During the near two decades she spent there, her parents visited once a cycle, occasionally missing a cycle if something important came up. During her time at the Arcanist's Guild, she excelled at her studies, though at the cost of any meaningful friendships. Living with members of the Guild taught her more than the usual geometries and tactics. She found herself surrounded by the most dedicated Arcanists; many of them cold, calculating, and ambitious. Although her teacher was wise and humble it was the ambitious, tactical arcanists she would look up to and take after. Eventually, everyone and everything was merely a stepping stone to greater power and prestige within the guild. Every friend she made was simply a tool, and every kind act a farce. Indeed, as time went on her knowledge and power only grew. When the lost arts of the Nymian Scholars resurfaced, she began to learn them as soon as possible, ensuring she would excel in them beyond all those around her if possible.
With this thirst for knowledge, she gained a need to expand her horizons; she moved to Ul'Dah to apply her skills for a Company known as the Hungry Wolves. Many a person she met in Ul'dah and the Wolves, friends and acquaintances alike. Most of them she met and never saw again. Others she finds once in a blue moon. Some had achieved a rarity, in that she would consider them an actual friend. When she moved initially, she hoped a new perspective would allow her to grow in her art as an arcanist, instead it served to teach her that there could be more to life than knowledge and prestige. Eventually, she left the Hungry Wolves, which had rebranded itself as Desert Fangs, to join a trading company in Gridania to continue learning more about the world. The Heartwood Trading Company, which is now known as Heartwood Ventures, solidified the importance of understanding and caring for others. Her kindness, which had long been nothing but a farce, was finally be genuine.
She currently spends most of her time in either her library or the clinic at Heartwood, her ambitions having faded for the most part.
Personality
She was trained from childhood to be an Arcanist. A cool, calulating tactician and strategist was ingrained into her first and foremost, with care and social skills coming second. For years, being anything less than the best was a setback to be corrected. To be put into a position of perceived uselessness was an incredible insult. In spite of this, a combination of time and the right friends allowed her to grow into a genuinely caring woman that can hold a conversation. She still holds to many of her ideals as an Arcanist and a Scholar, but she has since learned that caring does not have to be a tactical weakness. At present, she tries to learn how to better herself both as a Scholar and as a person, as there are still some holdovers from her old behaviors.
Affiliations
Limsa Lominsa - Her nation, and more importantly where the Arcanist's Guild resides. While she still comes to the city itself, the Arcanist's Guild has since removed her from their numbers, and she is no longer permitted within the old halls she once called home.
Desert Fang - Her former Free Company, she aided them in whatever way she can. Before a shift of leadership, she served as an adviser to one of the primary leaders of the Company. After the shift, she was largely unneeded as an adviser and went back to her normal work of paperwork and running a seldom used clinic.
Heartwood Ventures - Another former Free Company, she aids them with paperwork, a combat medic, and a doctor. She views the Company in high regard, trusting the majority of the medical division especially. She eventually decided to move away from the Company to seek out other endeavors.
Relationships
Friends
- Juno Iskandi - A good friend, they met when Kaiya was recruiting for The Hungry Wolf organization. She's found that Juno can be trusted, so long as she can deal with the frequent risque humor and commentary from the Highlander. As far as Kaiya is concerned, it is a small price to pay for a friend that actually cares at all.
- Tallera Weaver - Her former assistant and one of her closest friends. She met the scared, timid woman by chance on the streets of Ul'dah and watched her grow into something truly great. For Kaiya, it was Tallera's influence that showed her the benefits of truly caring for people, regardless of practicality.
- Tynos Riller - A fellow paperwork, book reading, glasses wearing shut-in. While she has met many people like her in that regard, Tynos has her appreciation for being a relatively low-key man. Nothing overly strange or insane to be expected from Mister Riller, making a drink of tea or a conversation about magical theory all the more calm and pleasant.
- Zana Amaro - A bit of an enigma, but an old friend nonetheless. A contact she made in her time spent living in Limsa Lominsa. Their work together was always productive and reliable, which was simple to appreciate. While she and Zana may not be the best conversational partners, the mutual understanding and trust they share from their former work has carried on for years.
- Rhea Zaheela - A former boss, Kaiya often advised her when she could. They made for decent friends, though far more professional than most. It was a friendship based in a mutual respect for each other, and Kaiya would have had it no other way.
- Vektis Sol - Incredibly eccentric and a bit prideful, first impressions were slightly off-putting. Still, he turned out kind enough and acts as yet another person she feels she can at least partially rely on. His slightly less refined way of speaking is coupled with a sincerity that she finds herself appreciating.
- Bennett Cooper - A very young, but still remarkable and reliable Lalafell. Though too idealistic for his own good, Kaiya believes that he can become a truly great man in time.
- Sakeru Wakeru - A completely upstanding Lalafell with no hint of a shady background. Trustworthy in every way. He would never hurt a fly. With a good sense of humor and a mild obsession with stoves and frying pans, Kaiya is willing to consider him a friend.
- Nevil Synch - Though hard to understand, he has a good heart. Nevil is relatively laid back, which is relaxing at some level to Kaiya.
- Nyscera Alarone - Trustworthy and kind, Nyscera is among the few Kaiya feels she can be truly open with. Her devotion to what she does is admirable, and never ceases to amaze.
Acquaintances
- Enkhjargal Dalamiq - A potentially dangerous summoner, and a very calm one as well. She aided him in a project she could not fully condone, in part to witness a potential advancement in her own aether studies. Despite the questionable research, he has been another pleasant companion for her, giving her someone to speak to about theories and aether without end.
- Argent Sage - Within the medical division of Heartwood, Doctor Sage is one of the most devoted and reliable. While Kaiya deeply appreciates the rest of her division, having another experienced doctor is an immense relief.
- Conrad Godsbane - A battle trainer and a professional. Kaiya finds it simple enough to keep a professional relationship of mutual respect.
- Cioccolato Stella - A healer in training with a kind heart and good intentions. There is potential with her, which Kaiya seeks to cultivate through training and guidance.
- E'kari Sol - A fellow healer with a gentle soul. She is kind, caring and helpful, which Kaiya appreciates in most healers.
- Archemides Fontaine - A former boss, they met during a temporary alliance between his former Company and her former company. While she would, at times, prefer a more professional stance from the man, she finds him likable and reliable in general. His friendly demeanor helped her adapt to her new work rather easily.
