Noxaelius Avantine

Although he is a Miqo'te, he was named Noxaelius Avantine by the Duskwight Elezen family that adopted him, since they are not familiar with Miqo'te naming conventions. His name is usually shortened to Nox by people close to him, or people who simply do not want to pronounce a mouthful when addressing him.

Appearance

Noxaelius is a Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon with ebony skin of a slight blue hue. His almond-shaped eyes are a very light gold-tinged silver and his full height brings him to about 5'10". This young man has high cheekbones with sharper facial features, giving him a constant unimpressed, intimidating look. He sometimes wears his platinum-blond hair in different styles, although he tends to prefer his hair tied back and knotted in various braids most of the time. Thin, low-set eyebrows and a thin, straight, high nose bridge contribute to his natural unfriendly expression. He has a few scars across his face, showing that this Miqo'te has been through some rougher times.

Although he focuses on the more arcane aspects of combat, his body is lean and muscular due to rigorous physical training. Intricate designs etched with black ink snake across various parts of his body, his face, his back, and up his neck, with his right arm completely covered in them. Several scars are also present on arms, chest, and torso. He wears a lot of gold jewelry and many rings. Although the accessories look unnecessarily elaborate, they have gems capable of storing a small amount of aether or act as catalysts for him to channel magic through.

This Miqo'te usually carries around a long, black staff with a bright red crystal formation on his back. The staff is extremely pointed at the top, making it almost as sharp as a lance blade and capable of piercing various materials as well as bodies.

Personality

Noxaelius has always been quite sure of his own capabilities as well as his appearance, leading him to become a very arrogant person. He is shameless and openly expresses his arrogance and vanity in public, constantly antagonizing other men. However, he does not purposefully try to pick fights - he only picks them if someone rubs him the wrong way or does it first. He is extremely fond of flirting with any decent-looking female, regardless of her relationship status. The male is also extraordinarily vain and not afraid to make comments about how great his appearance is.

He likes to make witty, sarcastic comments or "bully" (tease from moderate to extreme amounts) people who are close to him (or people who are just easy targets). The closer he is with someone, the harder he will tease them. He is particularly fond of teasing females over males. Despite finding enjoyment in "bullying" the people he cares about, however, he is very loyal and will always attempt to help out his friends and family during important events. He often tries to hide any caring feelings he has for people close to him, making excuses up to explain some nicer actions. His unfriendly and intimidating appearance matches his personality - still, he would be willing to chat with a stranger if the topic interested him or wasn't a huge waste of his time.

This young man is extremely selfish and his actions revolve around things that would bring him personal benefit. He would not help a stranger if they were in trouble, even if their life was in danger, without any personal gain, unless the stranger happens to be lucky enough to need help for something he finds interesting or amusing. If he acts nice to a stranger or group and helps them out for seemingly no reason, he most likely has an ulterior motive. He is very sly and not below accomplishing his goals in dishonorable ways. Noxaelius is a strong believer in give and take, so if someone does him a large favor, he will strive to return it.

The Miqo'te may usually come off as sexist with the way he treats women, but he is narcissistic rather than sexist. He tends to treat women as sexual objects because he is heterosexual and doesn't look at men in that way. However, he does not believe that women are the lesser sex. He believes that he is the best and looks down on anyone who isn't himself, regardless of their race, age, gender, or occupation. He also looks down on people who are submissive or passive, as he has a very aggressive personality.

Noxaelius tends to be sadistic and violent, finding no problem in torturing someone or blowing buildings up. Of course, he usually only does these things for a reason and not just for fun, but he has close to zero morals. He also has no control over his strength when he loses his temper and is extremely volatile. His demeanor could go from calm to murderous immediately, if someone says or does the wrong thing. The Keeper does have the capability to caring and thoughtful, but the only people who see this side of him are those with who are significantly close to him.

The best quote to describe him is, "Don't play with fire if you don't want to get burned".

Biography

Childhood

This Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te has never known his tribe or the ways of his race because he was adopted by a Duskwight Elezen family as an infant. Unfortunately, his adoptive parents are also clueless about his background because they merely found him placed behind a large boulder with a leaf over his body in the Shroud, as though he had been put there for protection. Therefore, Noxaelius was raised in the ways of the Duskwight Elezen despite not being from that race. However, he does not share the same racial animosity towards Wildwood Elezen .

Noxaelius had an interest in destruction at a very young age and discovered the existence of Black magic from books. He thus developed a desire to become a Black Mage and wield destructive arcane powers. However, he had no knowledge or experience of where to even begin, nor where to obtain a Black Mage Soul Stone, so he sought the tutelage of a retired Master Thaumaturge. The Master Thaumaturge was initially unwilling to take the child in as a disciple, but Noxaelius showed promise and used various ways to sway the mage's decision. The Master accepted him as a student under the condition that he will never search for Black magic. Thus, Noxaelius begun studying Thaumaturgy at the age of five.

The Master decided to test a theory he had about boosted elemental powers a few years after Noxaelius became a student. He threatened the Miqo'te to consume a live fire sprite or else he would lose his student position. Of course, Noxaelius was terrified but being deeply ambitious, he ate the fire sprite and fell into a coma for two weeks, then took four months to fully recover, nearly dying from the experience. Eventually, he recovered and the Master's theory was actually proven to be correct: consuming the sprite and magically bonding with it increased the person's affinity with that particular element. In turn, it also decreased their effectiveness with the opposing element. However, it is very dangerous and it seems to only work if the person originally already bonded well with that element. In Noxaelius's case, bonding with the sprite's magic made his body temperature permanently unnaturally high, so he does not easily get cold (even in Coerthas), and suffers from fevers during the summer.

Teenage

The young man suddenly disappeared from his home in East Shroud one day at the age of 17 and his whereabouts were unknown to his family and master for six and a half years.

Noxaelius had traveled to Limsa Lominsa and joined a pirate crew soon after he ran away from the Shroud in an attempt to make money and keep a low profile. This lifestyle was what bred his addiction to alcohol and bedding women. He was always part of a crew and never commanded his own ship, but the male eventually gained a reputation as "that crazy arsehole who's great at blowing up ships but volatile as hell". Although Noxaelius enjoyed his life as a pirate and stayed for many years, he decided that his magical abilities were not progressing fast enough and left in order to focus on increasing his magical power.

Present

The male made his residence in Mist since he enjoyed living in Limsa Lominsa, and put all his attention into gaining more power. He had somehow managed to learn black magic after he fled from the Shroud and looked for ways to increase his knowledge of black magic spells, as well as methods to gain more aether. He keeps the fact that he is a black mage secret due to the practice being negatively regarded.

The Miqo'te encountered a lost female Hyur a while later, who would then become his housekeeper, and move on to become his lover.

He has moved from his Mist residence to Lavender Beds with Caelia, due to complaints from the neighbors about his violence and lack of discretion.

Combat Abilities

Fire magic is Noxaelius's forte. He is very strong with the fire element and decent at lightning-based magic. Ice magic, on the other hand, he struggles with, since he did not put as much study into that element due to his Master believing that the ice element is rather useless, and is also naturally less effective with the element because of his consumption of a fire sprite. The fire sprite also made him more resistant against fire, so he may still sustain minor burns, but would not be as affected as others by it. This Miqo'te is also proficient at illusion magic, since it was a part of his studies.

He is able to cast a basic fire spell without his staff, due to some of his jewelry. However, this spell is significantly weaker without being amplified by his staff. All the jewelry that he wears are actually replaceable crystal catalysts for storing reserve magic in. He also temporarily loses some of the vision in his left eye when casting a spell using Black magic (during the duration of the cast).

Noxaelius is very skilled at using his staff as a weapon because, although he devotes most of his studying time to magic, he believes that simply training the mind is not enough to protect oneself, so he also trains his body. Of course, his melee abilities do not measure up to a person who has studied melee as their main method of combat. In fact, he often prefers to fight close-range because he enjoys using his spells on someone with direct contact instead of long-ranged casting and also likes to stab enemies with his staff. This male is very confident in his magical combat abilities and hates to lose. Sometimes, he may get too immersed in the battle and lose control of himself, seeking only to win and not caring what kind of damage he does to himself or anyone around him. He is always eager to battle because he believes that experience is the best teacher. He has not bothered to study any other type of combat and patches up his own wounds with magical items and medicine.

In fact, he doesn't even like moving them, so he has trained himself to prevent them from moving or reacting to anything unless absolutely required.

Extra Information

Family

Noxaelius's real parents are unknown. His adoptive parents are two Duskwight Elezen, his father being a lancer and his mother an archer. They are very kind, upstanding people. He lived with his Master the entire time he studied with him and only visited his parents once every two weeks for an entire day, so they are not too knowledgeable of his life under his Master, nor do they understand much about magic. Noxaelius refuses to tell them the details of his disappearance and lies to them when he visits them, wearing outfits with sleeves and gloves so that most of his tattoos are covered. He completely changes his personality to being polite and cultured, and tells them that he is living in Limsa as a Thaumaturge teacher. The young man loves them despite visiting them rarely, and pretends to be someone he isn't because he does not want to disappoint them or get them involved in any of his problems. Unfortunately, his parents were later murdered.

His feelings for her kept growing despite the Miqo'te telling himself that he would be able to distance himself from her at any time, and finally accepted that he loves her. The two had gone through many difficult times and even separated, but are back together and currently very in love. The Keeper loves to find any situation and method possible to embarrass her. ● Aeylis Bloodbinder : Noxaelius has had a roller coaster standing with this Highlander, either flirting with her or fighting with her, but the two have settled on being "friends" (or as the Miqo'te calls it, "drinking partners"). She is the only person Noxaelius knows who can hold her liquor almost as well him (he insists that he can drink more though). ● Grey Argentum : He finds this Miqo'te male quite pushy when it comes to sharing problems, too controlled, and greatly enjoys needling him. Still, he makes for a decent drinking partner and Noxaelius finds him a bit more tolerable than other men he has interacted with. The two have polar-opposite personalities but somehow get along. ● Rhian Solane : This female Miqo'te is someone Noxaelius loathes and views as an enemy he would gladly rid the world of, if not for her being Caelia's friend. The two often met on their individual hunts for ancient books on magic, with Rhian just getting to the book and taking it before Noxaelius did. These encounters are what cemented the male's hatred of her. However, Noxaelius's view of her has improved slightly in recent times due to her taking care of Caelia when he was away. Despite the improvement, he still hates her...just not as much as before.
