P E R S O N A L I T Y
Driven. Enthusiastic. Hard-working. M'rhos is many things, chief of which is “extremely sincere”. He radiates a feeling of intensity - but not in an intimidating capacity. Rather, he boasts a welcoming and kind aura most times. And should one approach him, they will find he’s as forthcoming with interested enthusiasm for almost any topic as he is with the cheerful smiles and winks he doles out to anyone he can cast eyes on. On the same coin, when he’s in a foul mood, most everyone will know. Immediately. He feels things intensely, and by virtue of his sincere nature, he’s no good at hiding whatever emotion he finds himself wrapped up in.
Despite his natural disposition, M'rhos knows when to stay quiet, and - even more importantly - seem unimportant and uninvolved. When he doesn’t want eyes on him, he is quick to adopt a more reserved personality. It won’t stand up to scrutiny, should one try to engage with him, but it does the job. A handy safety mechanism, M'rhos has used it to navigate the dangerous everyday life of a native Ala Mihgan citizen under Garlean rule. It’s one of the many mannerisms (large and small) that the occupation of his home country has taught him.
Another of those mannerisms is paranoia. While his doesn’t manifest outwardly often, it can be noted in his little quirks. He doesn’t like when people stand just a bit too close, or if they eavesdrop on his conversations. Nor does he like sudden, unexpected physical contact. Should one do one of these things, he will likely treat them with badly concealed suspicion, until his fears are assuaged. Still, M'rhos holds a deep-seated sense of optimism that, as little of he thinks of the current state of the world and some people in it, there is a bright future ahead. One that can be reached through a shared love for others and cooperation. From this belief comes his willingness to put aside his fear of spies and traitors to try and foster relationships.

While shorter than most, M'rhos makes up for his lacking height with very visible muscle tone - which gives his lean frame a considerable amount of physical strength. His umber skin bears a smattering of scars and often a handful of bruises at any given time; earned first from his life as a hunter, and now from his work in the resistance. One such scar nicks just under the left side of his jaw - visible only if M'rhos tilts his head a certain way. Other scars litter his body: from a burn that stretches across his left-hand side, to a bite on his right arm, and a matching set of claw marks on his right leg.
His thick black hair lays in cross-cropped curls, save for a pair of messy braids that fame his face, a pair of carved drift-wood beads holding each in shape. Should someone try to touch said hair and the furry ears nestled in it, they would find both to be quite soft. From under his mess of dark curls, a pair of piercing jade green eyes peer out at the world, often flicking from one object or face to the next. Rarely do they stay locked on one thing, save for when he's listening to someone speak. A short, straight nose slopes down towards a pair of full lips, who hide a set of unnervingly sharp teeth.
When it comes to clothes, M'rhos doesn't boast the most varied - nor fashionable - wardrobe. His full collection can and does fit into a light pack. It's made up of loose-fitted shirts, simple pants, and one much-loved flannel-patterned jacket. Which he wears as often tied around his waist as he does actually over his shoulders. He also keeps a dark nophica green scarf that he wears when the weather allows. In recent moons, he's started to wear traditional Ala Mhigan garb more often - especially a soft green Ala Mhigan Gown that, he will inform anyone who asks, was made by his eldest sister. When stepping into battle on his own adventures, he favors a set of light leathers - in hues of green, white, and brown. And, at almost all times, he carries an over-the-shoulder bag and a light straight sword. While fighting under the Resistance flag, he wears their customary field gear with pride.

Being from a Seeker tribe, a Resistance soldier, and a mostly-trained Red Mage, M'rhos is no push-over in combat. He has experience that ranges from tussling with beasts twice or more his size, to conquering trained troops on bloody battlefields. However, while he's seen much, he isn't always in his element; the occasional new experience can knock him off his rhythm and call for him taking time to regain his mental footing. This can trip him up - and badly. M'rhos is often a fighter who favors smart tactics, rather than full-on aggression. This habit can be forgotten in the heat of an intense battle with survival on the line, though.
In most scenarios, he favors a straight-bladed, single-edged saber and the use of Red magics; often choosing to weave the two together, for interesting and oft-times devastating results. His style is inspired heavily by the stories of the Crimson Duelists he was told as a child and the training he received from a Red Mage he served with in the Resistance, but his own flair always shines though. While he can cast acceptable Black spells, M'rhos is most innately attuned to his own reserve of White aether. This makes casting basic healing magics, air-, and earth-attuned spells easy for him. Especially earth, it being his patron element. However, he has to be careful to not drain his Aether reserves. Something he's prone to, even now.
Growing up, M'rhos always favored a sword and shield. However, once his adoration of the Crimson Duelists bloomed, he began to forgo the shield, in favor of using his free hand to cast small spells. He uses a fast-paced, thrust-and-slash focused style. Formulated to best get through beast-hide and exploit natural weaknesses - such as slicing key tendons. |
Having been trained in the basics of the Red, while having been self-taught up to the start of said training, M'rhos has a few interesting takes on the magical school. His casting is as much a part of his movement in combat as the cut of his blade is; he will sling shards of earth in-time with a stab and light his blade ablaze mid-swing, mixing his two finest skills with his natural expertise and his not-so-formal education. |
While swords may hold the majority of M'rhos' heart, he's got a knack for knives as well. And is rarely found without one or two stashed on his person - though not all are meant for combat. In a fight where he doesn't wish to use magics, or he feels it would be unwise to do so, he fills his free hand with a knife. His preferred option being a bowie knife with sword-breaker intends in the blunt side of its blade, resembling the teeth of a comb. During times like these, it's common that he will switch his sword from its position in his right, to the left - his dominant hand, normally saved for casting. |
H I S T O R Y
Born just before the fall of Ala Mhigo - and just after the death of the Mad King - M'rhos has never known life as a free man. Until now. The son of M'rahz Nunh and M'jera Iros, M'rhos has many siblings - maternal and paternal. However, he’s always been closest to his mother’s other children; his two elder sisters (M'raye and M'etra) and one younger brother (M'xanh).
Growing up in the M tribe, he heard, saw, and experienced the cruelty of Imperial rule over and over again. But, rather than falling to despair and accepting the fate of Ala Mhigo as a foregone conclusion, he listened often to the older, idealistic members of his tribe. Namely, M'naago. In their words he found a sense of righteousness, and that feeling grew in him a set of morals and ideals that have guided him since.
At age 12, M'rhos and his eldest sister, M'raye, came to a realization. The two of them, having always been close and who often confided in each other, found in themselves something they didn’t know how to explain. A want to change, a feeling that something was wrong; not with they, themselves, but with how people saw them, and how their bodies felt.
A year of quiet exploration passed before they shared the news with others. The two of them would be taking new names, new titles, and assuming new roles; M'raye as a sister where once people had thought her a brother, and M'rhos as a son where once he was seen as a daughter.
After coming to majority, M'rhos was reluctant to leave the Peering Stones - but in the end, the call of the Ala Mhigan Resistance’s ideals and the feeling he was but another hungry mouth for the tribe to feed led him to depart. In the Resistance, he first worked as a camp-hand; lending aid with cooking, foraging, and tending to fires, tents, and the armory. In the last two turns, however, he stepped into the role of messenger - and then foot-soldier.
As a practitioner of Red magic, he found his place as an infantry swordsman with the ability to act as an emergency medic. And in this job he has stayed - though the liberation of Ala Mhigo has left him with more time off between deployments.
