History

Like most Hellsguard Roegadyn, Southern Bear grew up near Abalathia's Spine in Dravania, and eventually made his way to Ul'dah to work as a mercenary. However, he soon found that the many needs for a mercenary were often times less noble than he had preferred, and soon came to decline more jobs than he accepted. As he struggled for work, the idea quickly came to him that he could offer his services elsewhere as well, which appealed to Bear, who had grown fond of travel from his pilgrimage from the Abalathia.
While the land of La Noscea proved to be somewhat of the same case as Thanalan, the forests of the Black Shroud proved to be quite beneficial to his line of work, as poachers and bandits were commonplace in the forests. Nevertheless, he continued to travel between city-states, taking on whatever job he could to be of help to the lands he now called home.
One day, Southern Bear had assigned a contract to deal with some monsters in Northern Thanalan, as the Brass Blades and the Immortal Flames were short handed. While clearing out the fauna, Southern Bear stumbled upon a Garlean contingent, who had managed to corner a young scholar named Mason Clark. Realizing the gravity of the situation, he used a smoke bomb, a trinket he had picked up in La Noscea, to confuse the Garleans, and snatch the boy up to bring him to safety. Mason's own group of hired hands had been easily slaughtered by the Garleans, leaving the boy alone and far from home. Having finished his job, Bear took it upon himself to see the boy returned to Limsa Lominsa safely, neglecting to collect his pay.
Upon arriving at Mason's mansion, the Midlander offered to house Bear for the night, as the trip had already been long for the two of them. Since then, Bear has continued to live with Mason, growing slowly ever fonder of the boy.

Affiliations

Mason Clark:

Having rescued Mason from the Garlean ambush, the young hyur took the roaming Roegadyn into his home. Having formed a special bond the very first night, Bear is fiercely loyal to Mason, though is often times unable to properly express himself to Mason.
