Theodemar Stoutheart was born in Ala'Mhigo the son of wealthy merchants and spent his early years there, learning the arts of haggling, trading, and other essentials for what was presumed to be his path in life. Theodemar himself had little time to think of other thinks - Nor much of a choice according to his parents. When the revolution kicked off, his family rode it off by supporting the revolutionaries and turning on Theodoric. Things seemed like they would be alright for the Thorne family, however when the Garleans began to advance on Gyr Albania he was made to flee with servants and employees of his family, away from his home and into Thanalan.

Appearance & Personality

A man interested in keeping his oath to preventing injustice and helping those who can't help himself. Theodemar tries his best to uphold his personal ideals of truth, integrity, and bravery, and finds himself challenged more often than not, as his oath leads him into trouble more than it does lead him out. Beyond that, Theodemar is fairly reticent as an individual, he doesn't speak out loudly too often, instead prefering to speak softly and carry a big sword. This doesn't keep him from enjoying himself when the opportunity arises, and despite attempting to be a patient and well-rounded man, he is plauged with a myriad of problems. His fuse has been known to blow if he gets too frustrated, leading to rash actions, and the man clearly does not see himself in a high light. This manifests itself in the form of self-deprecation humor and an all-around low idea of himself.
He has dark-toned skin with purple tattoos along the upper-part of his face, burnt eyes blending with his skin tone and covered by the armor he wore. Segmented scale armor covered in a purple cape, more often than not, combined with purple trousers and boots, he wears the colors of his homeland proud. His shield has a griffon emblazoned on it, and his sword is a decorated, yet effective weapon that the man has taken great lengths to keep sharp. Beyond this, he stands at six foot two inches, and is built as a fighter, with an all around strong build and muscular appearance.

Biography

Born in Ala’Mhigo under the rule of the Mad King. His family curried influence with the court thanks to its impressive wealth and constant gifts to appease the King. Theodemar was afforded an extensive education in all aspects of life, mundane and magical. It was here that he learned he had an early-knack for magic. Yet, nothing would be done of this and, for a time, this would be hidden. His family feared what the Mad King might do to the family if it was found that there was even a sliver of a chance they were mages. Theodemar was raised a worshipper of Rhalgar despite Theodoric’s opposition to the patron of Ala’Mhigo. This was, naturally, kept a secret. The Merchant family was in-favor of deposing Theodoric, and helped fund the rebellion, unknowingly falling right in with the Garleans plans.
When chaos reigned in Ala’Mhigo, the Garleans moved in, and the merchant family submitted to Garlean rule. However, rather than risking their son’s life as a Garlean soldier or a worker in a camp, the merchant family had him secreted away while Garlemald was still establishing control. The young lad was fed intentional lies by his rescuers, that his parents were trying to abandon him and that they no longer wanted him. He was spirited away to Thanalan, where he grew up living a live in stark contrast to the one he had known before. For his early teenage years he was little more than a pauper living on charity at the Lichyard in Camp Drybone, and trying to repay kindness by aiding in managing the Church’s many chores.
Over years he caught wind of a legendary Gladiator, Raubahn, an Ala’Mhighan like himself. He kept up with the news as Raubahn became something of a legend, a man with determination and grit in equal measure, who won a thousand matches and bought his freedom. This inspired Theodemar, and led to the boy preparing to become a Gladiator. On his 18th Birthday, Theodemar made the trek to Ul’Dah and became a Gladiator. With only a cheap set of equipment available to him, he began a long career of fighting in the arena. While he amassed some renown of his own, it didn’t equal that of his hero, who now sat on the Syndicate.
Theodemar fought for fifteen years, winning many matches and losing a few. He accrued a fairly healthy amount of gil from his winnings and no longer suffered in poverty, and neither did his immediate kin, or the closest thing he had to it. Distant family and servants who had helped him escape that fateful day in Ala’Mhigo. When the Sultansworn broke their tradition in only teaching members of their order the way of the Paladin, Theo saw a chance for something new. He saw a chance to do more than fight for money and glory. Thus, he went through the rigors of Paladin training and, at the end of the day, was proven worth of the knowledge of a Paladin. It was from here that he set off and began his treks around Eorzea, to aid the needy and to see to it that he sampled every piece of the land around him he could - For enjoyment and for knowledge.
The following years afforded him much in the way of time to learn and time to enjoy what he could. Yet, after his many adventures through the realm, he found a different calling. Namely, the Immortal Flame's Ala'Mhighan regiment was in sore need of recruits. And, as some would attest, Theodemar was in need of discipline. Deciding to join his brothers and sisters in arms, he spent many of the following years drilling and fighting alongside members of the regiment, and the rest of the Immortal Flames. At the very end of his time in the Flames, he become a Lieutenant, and fought at the liberation of Ala'Mhigo alongside his fire-forged comrades, and some new ones who had been gained on the campaign. Finally, when Alal'Mhigo was free, Theodemar was honorably discharged from the flames to see about setting up a life for himself back at home.
He was one of the lucky ones, the home he had grown up in was in perfect shape, and he was able to claim it back once the Magitek had been stripped of it. Yet, scant having time to settle in, Theodemar was alerted of the existence of someone unexpected, namely, a daughter. A full-grown daughter he had with a woman he had called his first love nearly two decades ago. The woman had kept the child a secret, but now the child was a very grown, very angry woman. What followed would be turbulent times for the Paladin, who learned that there really was no rest for the weary. His efforts to right wrongs and correct the inaction of the past set in motion. He dawned his armor and returned to Ul'dah once more. He would remain there until his situation was deemed resolved, and from there, feeling he had many debts left to pay, begin out again. This time, not for the joy of adventuring, but for self-perceived penance for what the man believed to be wrong doings.
