Yomei Hagane has been residing in Eorzea for some long while, far ahead of the recent surge of refugees from Doma. Until recently, he has kept his heritage a secret, working in the shadows to find work, sustenance, and a way of life for any of his kin that sought refuge on Aldenard. He is stalwart, loyal, precise, but not without a sense of humor and revelry. His given name means 'One's Remaining Years' (余命), while his family name, Hagane--which he will almost never mention--means 'Steel' (鋼).

Appearance

The Au Ra man carries himself with a casual, aloof gait, somewhat in contrast with the arsenal he's usually packing. Whether it be a greatsword, longsword, or combat knives, he seems neatly at home with the edged weapons hanging off his person. He has observant, cautious eyes, and a placid expression that usually only gives rise to emotion once prompted. When he is prompted, Yomei has a joyous laugh and expressive voice, both of which are quick tells to his actual young age.

History

Though he doesn't make a mystery of himself, Yomei is not keen on speaking of his past. Since more and more Au Ra are living visibly across Aldenard, he has entirely shed the glamour and disguises that have allowed him to live on the continent for years preceding the influx of Doman refugees.

He has ten years of experience training with edged weapons, which is evident to anyone watching him fight. He attacks with speed and precision, favouring offense to defense on all occasions except when the latter is absolutely necessary. Though far from prolific in his use of magick, he possesses certain aetheric talents indicative of his Othardian heritage.

Personality

Firm and unyielding. He’s arrogant and headstrong, but his loyalties might as well be carved into stone. He has the military and combat expertise to back up his claims and pursuits, and more than a decade of fighting and bloodshed has taught him how to put aside fear.

He is compassionate, but it’s very specifically placed. Kin before country, and those two things above all else. He hates the Garlean Empire with every fiber of his being, and has no fear or caution in killing the Empire’s soldiers and combatants. Very few things can cause his hatred to flare as quickly as this subjugating nation.

Preferring the company of others, he plays the part of tavernkeeper whenever a job isn’t requiring his combat expertise. Strangers may know him to be efficient and quiet, but his true friends and acquaintances know a loud, joyful man who has a zest for life.

Affiliations and Known Associates

The details of how he came to have them are almost nonexistent, but the man has several weapons made by the Garlond Ironworks. He hangs around Mor Dhona quite a lot. First hint.

His affiliations with the Grand Companies of Eorzea are loose, to say the least, but he's been known to take advantage of their resources whenever he has the leverage to do so.

Ishgard. The Brume. He knows some folks.

Areas of Expertise

  • Martial: The man is a master of edged weapons. Swords. Knives. Axes. Spears. Having spent the vast majority of his life training with his weapons, they might as well be extensions of his own body.
  • Crafting: "Crafting," per se, is not Yomei's specialty. He knows his way around a campfire, and there are a few remedies and poisons he knows how to put together, but only if he has the required reagents. He's far from a specialist.
  • Other: Of all things, the Au Ra is fairly adept at caring for animals. He isn't much of a hunter, but when it comes to the care, breaking, and feeding of steeds and other beasts, he has an innate talent.

Other Notes

Religion

Yomei devotes the full of his beliefs to the Dawn Father and the Dusk Mother. He's aware of Eorzeans' penchant for worshipping "the Twelve," but you won't hear him talking about them.

Quirks

None. Nothing. No quirks. He's as straight-faced and stoic as his chiselled features might suggest. Always. Of course.

Equipment

Weapons and surprisingly well-made clothing. His armour is usually quite light, and he relies more upon his speed than anything else in a fight. He carries enough food and sundries to survive the length of whatever journey he's on, but he never seems to pack heavy (almost as if he never has to travel far.)

Rumours

The following rumours can be heard about Yomei, predominantly in and around Mor Dhona. (If your character has an opinion about him, feel free to add it here.)

Common rumours

  • "Can't be sure which is more fierce, the man or his bird. He walked into town carrying the head of a Garlean scout, not long back. Yomei's chocobo was carrying the rest of the mess." - Revenant's Toll gate guard
  • "I know Yomei. The man works himself near-to death, whatever he does. Never has kept him from my bar, though, even if he only drinks bloody water." - bartender of the Rising Stones
  • "Can't speak to where he goes every turn, but I see him in the Toll must suns. Plenty of work to be had, what with the gates to the Fury's nethers being open, now." - Revenant's Toll merchant

Uncommon rumours

  • "Aye, my crystal borers. Domans all, and they're damned good! Man swore if ever they weren't getting paid proper, treated proper...he'd be back to visit." - independent mining outfit, Revenant's Toll
  • "The man hasn't failed a job for me, yet, and I've given him fair past a dozen. Works like a starving man that can't ever get his fill." -
  • "Ironworks weapons? No. And I'd know if anything went missing." - Ironworks engineer

Rare rumours

  • "You need to get ahold of him? Speak to one of the refugees he put up for work. Man has a damned expansive network, even if he doesn't know it." - Revenant's Toll mercenary
  • "He paid good gil for those weapons, all right? More than you have. Quit asking." - The same Ironworks engineer
