Biography

Zair'is has very little memory of his biological parents. From a young age he was either abandoned or lost during a voyage at sea, of this he was never certain which. He spent most of his early years in the loose adoptive care of a shipment sailor, helping her maintain her vessel and carry out shipment orders. As such, he spent much of his time at Limsa Lominsa and began to call it home.

Once he became of age, he began to try and find work on dockyards and on shipping or fishing vessels, mainly to try and pay back his surrogate mother that took care of him when no one else gave him much of the time of day. As time went on, he eventually lost contact with her but fell into the ebb and flow of the seafaring lifestyle.

A few years later, finding no other viable options, he opted to register with the Maelstrom Marines. He became a recruit in one of their naval detachments and worked his way through the ranks. After several disagreements with his superior and his fellow soldiers, he requested a position in a more isolated role - eventually landing into a small detachment of forward scouts. He operated alone for much of his stint in this position, only rarely working with one other as a scouting and landfall unit.

When the call came that Eorzea would be moving into Ala Mhigo, Zair'is and similar units were sent in first to scout the territory, blend in, cause unrest among the ranks of the Empire, and assess the state of the rebels. After months behind enemy lines, Zair'is' unit was finally discovered and uprooted. They were swiftly cut down or taken prisoner, with Zair'is being one of the latter.

Deemed a deniable unit, after a brief search, the Maelstrom declared Zair'is and his unit either AWOL or KIA. Further scouting and espionage operations were denied.

Zair'is spent the better part of a year as a POW in an Empire camp, eventually transported to somewhere in Othard. He was tortured during several interrogations. Beatings, starvation, electrocution, and brandings were commonplace for him. He was encouraged to give up names and locations, and for the better part of that year Zair'is would not speak a word to anyone.

The man that broke him free never introduced himself, only gave him the means to escape his bondage. In addition, the man considered Zair'is to be lost and misguided, following simple patriotism as his guide in life. Under the tutelage of his new mentor, Zair'is began to learn the ways of the Sophic Teachings - and heal his wounded body and mind.

Abandoning his ties to his previous life, with the exception of one held hope, Zair'is took to his new path with renewed determination. He sought to establish balance in the world - keeping the haves in check with the have nots. Balance was the only thing that made sense to him, after (according to him) he threw most of his life away for a cause only to be cast aside and forgotten.

Due to unfortunate circumstances (and part of his training), his mentor was no more and Zair'is was once again on his own. Branded a ronin, he began to roam the unfamiliar territory. He had no real place to call home anymore and did what he could to find a bit of home in everywhere he went.

Romantic Interest

♥ Mahina Moui - Close since they were younger. Very close relationship until recently when circumstances put them out of contact for two years. After regaining contact, things were tumultuous between them and now their relationship is uncertain.

Platonic Love

♥ Artani Dazkar - First encountered in a steakhouse, he quickly took a liking to her pragmatic attitude and direct nature. Garnering a great amount of respect for her, he took it upon himself to get her back in touch with her family - something he was never able to do for himself.

Good Standing

♦ Byrn Wolfshowl - Introduced in a familiar steakhouse, he quickly took a liking to Byrn for a similar sense of a humor and Byrn's overwhelming desire to do good in the world - something he saw as a rarity. He would stand in front of a blade without question for Byrn, and considers him a brother.

Neutral Standing

● "Vincent" - A Miqo'te that goes by many names, even he does not know Vincent's real name nor does he pry. Vincent is a man of selfless action and an overwhelming need to better himself and others. At least he was when Zair'is knew him in the past. Since falling out of contact, all he's heard is rumors.
