Zaralette Valeneaux is the recently named head of the Clan Valeneaux and their accompanying merchant house. She is a former adventurer known to have great skill with a bow. Since taking over her family's resources, she has resolved to move Valeneaux operations to Gridania and help ease their suffering economy. Zaralette has also started several initiatives and projects (funded by Valeneaux money) to aid refugees, particularly those children orphaned by the Calamity. Zaralette has the odd habit of constantly speaking in a formal tone, and making liberal use of the noble "we."
History
Other than her family relations and the her status as a former adventurer, there are very few things known about Zaralette's history. She kept away from her family during her adventuring days, relying only on herself to fund her escapades. She was eventually called back to serve as he head of her Clan by her mother and father, in the wake of her father's sudden illness. She tends to the day to day affairs leadership and the Valeneaux merchant house, but seems to find the whole business rather stale and boring compared to her previous life. She has accepted the new role and life without hesitation or regrets, being the ever dutiful scion of the Valeneaux that she is.
Family
Cousteaux Valeneaux (Father) - A stern man, known to have very high expectations of his children. He is known to come off as cold and somewhat callous most of the time, but his loyalty to his family and Clan is legendary. It is said that his missing left hand is the result of a display of that loyalty, though the exact details of the hows and whys of the incident are unknown to the public at large. Cousteaux is very cunning and shrewd, and his leadership of the Valeneaux saw them rise in prosperity and resources. He began to take ill a few years ago, but saw his family though the chaos of the Calamity and it's aftermath before finally sending for his daughter to replace him. He is currently enjoying his retirement and recovering at the Valeneaux manse in Ul'dah.
Cesalie Valeneaux (Mother) - A beautiful Duskwight woman, and powerful Thaumaturge. Cesalie was once a highly ranked member of the Thaumatuge's Guild in Ul'dah in her youth. She gave up almost all ties and influence with the Ossuary after she married Cousteaux. The reasons for this are largely a mystery, but mostly written of as a sign of her complete dedication to her husband and the Valeneaux. Her keen business senses have served both Cousteaux, and now Zaralette, very very well.
Halfax Valeneaux (Younger Brother, Deceased) - Halfax was following his his mother's footsteps. He was killed as a result of an ever escalating rivalry with another student of Thaumaturgy. The Valeneaux sought no restitution or vengeance for the loss of Halfax. In fact, when asked about the matter, Cousteaux simply replied, "If he had been strong enough to live up to his destiny, he would still be alive." That seems to have been the final word on the matter.
Rumors
Zaralette does not entertain suitors of any sort. When asked about marriage prospects or romance, she simply grins and says, "We are waiting for our true love to finally tear off his mask and show the world that he has finally learned who he truly is."
Zaralette seems to be possessed of very keen eyesight. Rumors abound that she is actually the product of an illicit affair with a Wildwood. Whether the culprit is Cousteaux or Cesalie remains a subject of debate, however.
