A half-reformed Xaela pirate trying to find his place in a world far too civilized for his liking.

Basic Info

Unlike most Au Ra, Jetei Kha has been familiar with Eorzea since long before the Doman refugees fled for the continent, thanks to his life on board one of the myriad pirate ships haunting the Rhotano Sea. As such, he considers Eorzea his real home, even if he still struggles to balance his own savage nature, shaped by centuries of Xaela culture and his own inner demons, with what this superficially more civilized society seems to expect of him. He thinks he's done reasonably well, all told, making a name for himself as a reliable mercenary and even owning a home in La Noscea.

Appearance & Personality

Biography

Childhood

Jetei was born and grew up among the Kha, one of the steppelands' many Xaela tribes. His tribe's penchant for wandering Xaela borders, seeking out and interacting with other cultures, ignited a fire of curiosity in the young Au Ra, and he decided early on that he wanted to see more of the rest of the world, rather than just the tidbits found in the small border villages or among the trading caravans.

Teenage

At around sixteen, Jetei made the final decision and left his tribe for good. The first couple years of his trek were spent mostly in Doma, indulging as much as he could in the culture and learning how to navigate the larger, more civilized, and yet still brutal world outside the steppes where he grew up. It was during this time that he met Cloudkicker, a newborn griffin being sold at a black market as a curiosity, and the creature would eventually become his best friend and most steadfast companion throughout his adventures.

Adulthood

By the time he was eighteen, Jetei -- with Cloudkicker in tow -- had hit the coast. With no more land to cross, he decided he would take to the water instead, signing up with the first pirate crew that crossed his path. That became his life for the next twenty-odd years, and it was one that suited him well; his crew was his family, his new tribe, and the violent, unpredictable life of a pirate seemed like it was designed with him in mind.
Unfortunately, everything has to come to an end, and the end of Jetei's life at sea came a year or so after the Calamity, when a mutiny took his captain, his left eye, and his place on board the ship. Since then he's spent much of his time adjusting to his new, half-blind life back on land.

Present

After a tumultuous and ultimately ill-advised stint working for a legitimate company known as XI:7, Jetei has finally managed to settle into a relatively stable life. Well, as stable as a life can be when it belongs to a berserker mercenary who shares his inherited house with his lover and two men he isn't sure if he adores or despises. But what proper Xaela would ever want something so dull as normalcy?

RUMORS

Some of these rumors are untrue or are greatly exaggerated. Please feel free to add your own rumors under PC!

◢ Common Rumors (Easily overheard)
"Mate, jus' let it go. Pick a fight with that one an' you'll be pickin' your guts up off the floor. Literally. While he's laughin' at you for it." -- a patron of the Drowning Wench
◢ Moderate Rumors (Moderately difficult to overhear)
"Those weren't the eyes of a man. Those were the eyes of some rabid animal, or an unleashed voidsent. You ever see those eyes looking at you, run." -- an unwitting and unwilling spectator to one of Jetei's more vicious confrontations
◢ Rare Rumors (Very difficult or rarely overheard)
"You should have seen the way he looked at that little Keeper. Like the Miqo'te had hung the stars in the sky. I wish someone would look at me like that." -- an unnamed visitor to the Mist housing district to her friend
"Don't try to beat him in a drinking contest. You'll be under the table before he's even tipsy." -- wise advice overheard at the Drowning Wench
◢ PC Rumors (Rumors from the character's of other players)

RELATIONS

Romantic Interest Platonic Love Good Standing Poor Standing
Cai'a Fashonti : A fling that unexpectedly became something much more when Cai'a became Jetei's lover, his healer, and his savior all in one. Cai'a is also the only one with whom Jetei has shared his darkest, ugliest secrets, and that probably says more than anything about how much he trusts and cares for the other man. The Miqo'te is the stablizing force Jetei didn't even realize he needed, and his possessiveness and protectiveness of him is intimidating and probably at least a little unhealthy. Cai'a doesn't seem to mind, however, so it all seems to have worked out.
/ Julien Fortier : Jetei's relationship with and feelings towards Julien Fortier -- who he knows at Lucien Durant -- are complicated at best and always utterly defying description. He knows. He's tried. All he can say is that he craves and loathes the man in equal measure... although that might have changed since meeting someone who welcomes Jetei's attentions.
/ Amedee Delacroix : As with Julien, there is simply no explaining Jetei's relationship with Amedee. They are both equal and opposite, each craving what the other has, and each assuming they know the other better than is probably true. And, again, Jetei isn't sure how that dynamic might shift now that Cai'a is in the picture. To be honest, he isn't sure he wants to find out, either.
