"If worse comes to worst, seek the aid of we who bear the sigil of the rose. House Haillenarte has battled the Dravanian Horde since the rise of Ishgard, and never shall we yield"
General
Lord Kistenian de Haillenarte is a noble who resides in the city-state of Ishgard. He is not a religious man but he does have a very strong love for Ishgard and Halone, woe betide anyone who would speak negatively of them in his presence. He carries out many tasks for his father, particularly those that lie outside of the Holy See. He also lends aid to House Fortemps, being good friends with the lords there with whom he grew up.
Appearance
Standing at an impressive six fulm nine ilms, Kistenian carries himself with the dignity and grace of a true-born Ishgardian noble. He shares the same auburn hair as his sister and the piercing blue eyes of his older brother. He takes great pride in his appearance and will always be seen in the most fashionable and expensive clothes, leaving some to wonder how House Haillenarte can afford such luxuries given its current financial state.
Personality
Polite and charming, Kistenian is one of the friendliest nobles you could hope to meet. He has never turned away from somebody in need, and views everyone as equals regardless of their background or situation. That is not to say he isn't cautious around strangers, and it can take considerable time for him to open up to someone he doesn't know very well. He can often be found in the Jewelled Crozier looking for new garments or jewellery, or wandering The Pillars with a lady. Despite often being seen with women, Kistenian never seems able to settle down and will end a relationship before it gets too far.
History/Timeline
Childhood Years
Kistenian was born into House Haillenarte, one of the four noble houses of Ishgard. He had a pleasant and comfortable upbringing, educated well and rarely being in any danger from dravanian attacks.
As a child, it was Kistenian's dream to become a knight of the Heaven's Ward. He would often ask his brother to pretend to be the Archbishop and he would be the knight to protect him from heretics.
He and his siblings spent a lot of time with the children of House Fortemps, creating unbreakable bonds of friendship which would serve both Houses well in the future.
Teenage Years
Eager to follow his dreams of becoming a Heaven's Ward knight, though finding it difficult to use a sword and shield, he began to study at Saint Endalim's Scholasticate. He was an intelligent and attentive student and quickly became a favourite among his tutors. It was during this time that House Haillenarte lost the Steel Vigil to the dravanians, and Kistenian lost his older brother, Chlodebaimt. A student of House Dzemael wasted no time in using this as an opportunity to drag Kistenian's name through the mud. It became apparent that no matter how hard he worked he would not gain a formal endorsement to enter the Holy See. He continued his studies, but left the scholasticate shortly before the examinations took place.
Early Adulthood
Distraught that his dreams of the Heaven's Ward were dashed and frustrated that he was unable to learn the fighting style of a knight, Kistenian turned to another path. He began to learn the arts of black magic in secret, fearing disapproval from his father. Once he felt confident in his ability to be able to showcase it, he approached his father who was already disappointed that his eldest, Stephanivien, had forsaken the ways of a knight to become a machinist. In order to prove both their merits, Kistenian suggested a mock-tourney for himself, Stephanivien and Laniaitte, who had become skilled with sword and shield. That was the first time Kistenian had lost control to the sheer power and force of black magic, and badly injured his sister in the process. Despite her making a full recovery, Kistenian could not forgive himself and began to study healing and conjurery in an attempt to dispel his guilt. Despite showing a natural talent for healing he still studied black magic, though promised his father he would learn from a tutor who could teach him how to control it.
