History

In the Beginning

Born to an elezen mother and rogadyn father, Quine was brought up under the watchful eye of her father who taught her the tools of his trade: Piracy. She would spend the next sixteen years of her life pillaging ships and plundering them much to the despair of the Limsa people, even going so far as to target villages. She was very difficult to apprehend as her father held decent sway in the city since much of his money was laundered and footed under the table to support rather unscrupulous acts. It didn't help that they often traveled together.

This changed, however, when Quine came of age and began to notice things about the village folk. She saw them as little challenge to fight and hardly worth the effort of stealing from or extorting. After razing her first village, she realized that the lives she had just taken were from innocents that lived and grew in families just as she did. This struck her when she watched a father die while trying to save his child from a falling building, making the experience difficult to erase.

Realizing that this was no longer how she wanted to operate, she began to question who she was. She chose to change herself drastically to the image that she desired and stripped her fathers name from hers. Their relationship became greatly estranged from not only the act of defying him but the mutiny she staged only days later to steal his ship and his crew. It was a long battle but she won in the end and tossed him into the sea, sailing the ship back to Limsa and spending the next four years proving herself to Admiral Merlywyb and laying her weapons down to her cause.

Leading to Present

On her 19th birthday, her crew threw a celebration for her during a return trip from a bounty. Quine had been sailing the high seas as a bounty hunter since she was taken under Admiral Merlywybs wing and watchful gaze. But as the celebration continued, it began to become clear that celebration wasn't on the minds of all the crew. It started without warning: the disappearance of her shipmates, the loss of her senses and the sound of guns firing. Many of the crew killed her more loyal mates who tried to protect her, each of the betrayers having a strange aura about them that only now seemed to surface. She didn't understand what was happening but had little to no time to react. Instead, she found herself being rushed to one of the smaller ships upon the side to be rowed quickly to land and guarded. The journey itself wasn't an easy one as the tiny boat was barely a match for the gigantic waves that threatened to toss them overboard. They were still less prepared when they thought a kraken was attacking the ship...until the creature rose from the water and showed its visage. Quine would never forget the face as long as she lived, astounded beyond belief that she was unable to lift her gun and kill the deformed voidspawn that was once her father. It barely held the same features, drowned out by the seaweed barnacles and writhing tentacles. But the seething void within its eyes scarred a deep imprint upon her psyche.

Present Day

Following the two years of her attack, the last three surviving members split up to have a better chance to escape whatever was clearly cursing them. Quine decided that she needed to earn more skill towards defending herself, quickly taking an interest in thaumaturgy as her primary art and creating her own fighting style using magic and guns. She traveled as an adventurer to Ul'dah and remained there for study. While there, she is now researching the strange occurrence she faced in an attempt to better understand the threat that's so close to home. All the while, perhaps dipping into more unorthodox practices of the magi under their nose to further the success rate of her endeavor. She grew up with that style and she wouldn't forget it...but it didn't mean she couldn't use it for good...especially if it meant protecting her home and land.

Personality

Quine is a very brash and outspoken individual. If she's not being loud, it usually means somethings troubling her and taken her mind. She despises anyone who messes with those she considers comrades and would gladly fight for their cause if she has seen reason enough. Her strong sense of loyalty and fearlessness can be seen a mile away, although to others it may look like she simply wants a fight. And they would be right. Quine hasn't forgotten the thrill of battle and lives to serve in the balance of protection and battlelust in Aethertide as an Aegus member.

She seems to be growing an interest in Morrick Malkavain. His rather eccentric nature doesn't bother her, only amusing her further. She hasn't ever considered this sort of experience before but that may yet remain to be seen.
