Edco Bane is a Mi'qote who lived in small village on the outskirts of Gridania. Practically born with the spirit of an adventurer, he longed to escape village life and explore the outside world. Once building up the courage to run away, he took a carriage to Gridania to start his new life.

Appearance & Personality

An average height male, with unruly, black hair with blonde highlights. He always wears something new, so it's really rare to see him with the same clothes for a long time. His most noticeable feature is a scar that goes down his right eye, which his father gave to him at an early age. He is quiet and usually struggles to make friends and relationships, mostly because back in the village, he tried to separate himself from everyone else, to make leaving less painful.

Biography

1542-1561

Childhood

Edco was born an only child in a tribe of Miqo'te called the Sunchasers. Practically everybody in the tribe knew him, mostly due to his parents being the nicest people in the area. If any help was needed, you can bet the Bane's were there. Edco, on the other hand, wasn't so much. If there was any trouble, chances are, he at the very least instigated it about 70% of the time. Despite this though, the town relied on his parents to help whenever needed, so a lot of his punishments were trivial, with severe ones just having a consequence of a few days of community service. This however stopped, when his dad drew his sword on him and swung at his face, giving him a scar. This was to Edco a lesson in both respect and humility.

Around the age of 8, a group of adventures came to the village to see if they can rest for the night. Edco was amazed by their armor, and stuck with them. One of the archers of the group showed him a portrait of his daughter. He said her name was Amy, and that she too, would become an archer just like him. The group secretly snuck Edco out of the village, and let him watch as they hunted a Malboro. It was here that he knew what true freedom felt like, and wanted to become an adventurer. He resented village life, and almost everybody around him.

Teenage

Edco was attending a school in the village that was specifically meant to train and enhance archer abilities. At this point, some of the hunters have actually moved into the village, one of them being the archer Edco met when he was little. Needless to say, he attended the same school as Amy. Since she was the only student that could possibly best Edco, so they were constantly fighting each other, and became rivals soon after.

Despite the rivalry, they were great friends outside of school, and almost inseparable. However, Edco's mother in particular didn't seem fond of her, saying that she is a bad influence and that he should focus more on being useful to the village rather than following that "pig" to live in a fantasy of becoming an adventurer. Edco just decided to agree with his mother, to avoid further confrontation. However, the things she said stuck to him, and just depressed him the further he thought about it, knowing that the one person he could trust has said those things about the only friend he ever really had.

1561 - Present

Once school was over, there was a festival being held in honor of the gods that the village worshipped. He decided that this was the perfect time to escape, since a lot of the villagers would be in the festival area. He packed his things and headed towards the exit of the inner wall. Since he didn't really think things through much, he just planned to use his charisma to get by. Oddly enough, no guards near the inner wall. He gave a smirk and thought to himself "Damn, this is gonna be pretty easy". However, he forgot about the outer wall entirely. He then noticed two guards, one female and another male. He decided to play it cool, and to pretend he was an adventurer that came for the day and is now leaving. However, with his scar and his past childhood behavior, you would have to be a fool to not notice it was him. The male guard stopped him in his tracks and the female took him by the arm. The other guard did the same, and begun to escort him towards the village.

He wasn't gonna let this stop him from becoming an adventurer, however. In a fit of rage, he used his leg to sweep the female guard and trip her. Noticing the male had a dagger by his side, he quickly grabbed it and stabbed him in the abdomen, resulting in him falling where he stood, not being able to do anything but bleed. As the female guard tried to get back up, Edco kicked her back down. Not wanting to make this an even bigger mess than it was, he decided to stomp on her kneecaps, crippling her so she wouldn't follow. He then quickly fled the scene, since he knew the commotion that he just created was sure to attract attention.

After running for what seemed like an eternity, Edco decided to stop and make camp near a lake. Reflecting back on what he just committed, he felt a hint of darkness within him, something he never felt before. After about an hour of resting and fishing for his dinner, he heard noises in the bushes. Wondering if this will be the end of his freedom, and most likely his life with the crime he just committed, he readied his bow, prepared to shoot at whatever or whoever it might be. Amy, his bard instructor, then appeared from the shadows. She mentioned that she was scouting for any signs of dangerous fiends in the area. Looking upon him, she noticed blood on both his hands and armor, and asked what happened, and what he was even doing this far from the village to begin with. He told her everything, even the darkness that he felt inside him. Amy responded by saying that the darkness was always something he had inside, but, by brutally fighting against the guards, has finally awoken it. She gave him a name of one of her colleagues, Xiomar, A elven warrior that has some experience in the dark arts.

Amy was about to take her leave, as she had to finish her scouting report, but Edco quickly grabbed her by the arm and pleaded her to stay with him, if only for tonight. Amy, as shocked as she was, agreed to his request. They both ate dinner, sang songs, and told stories.

Edco probably knew that might be the only peace he gets for a while, so he quickly kissed Amy. She didn't try and fight it, because she also had feelings for him, back when she was his instructor. Edco then tended to the fire so it can last the night, and then bedded Amy.

Come morning, both woke up and bathed in the lake. Before inevitably parting ways, Amy mentioned about a nearby town that has chocobo carriages, and advised Edco to take one to Gridania, since they have an Archers' guild. After giving her a long kiss goodbye, Edco decided to heed her advice, and booked a carriage to Gridania. During the ride, all he can think about was the future, meanwhile trying to forget about Amy, since he may never see her again. He decided to go to the Archer's guild and continued his training there, then set off and see what the world has to offer. What he doesn't know, is that a great evil is approaching, and that he, along with others like him, are the key to stopping it.

Edco taught her how to use some of her arcanist abilities. ● Garr Ironside : One of Edco's trusted friends. They first met in the Coerthas Western Highlands while they were trying to hunt down a behemoth. Garr invited Edco to his linkshell, and from time to time they hunted together. Garr even saved him and his group some trouble in a dungeon. ● N'aleek Eschaton: Nal first met Edco at the Mist housing districts. Noticing that Edco was sad about something, he went into Edco's house to try and cheer him up. You can probably consider them best friends, and Edco is now part of his free company.
