Basic Info

E'khei Balduin is just another Seeker born outside of a tribe, hence the non-traditional family name. He's primarily a Chocobo Inspector of the Immortal Flames, with the rank of Chief Flame Sergeant, whose primary duty is traveling around Thanalan inspecting Chocobokeeps and their Chocobos once a moon for health and safety. It would be a dull and tiresome job, if not for the traveling and getting to watch the birds mature into fine companions, including his own, Tan'to.

Personality

Laid back and cool, E'khei usually tries to avoid making his affiliations known (those beyond the Immortal Flames), as they usually afford him trouble. Helpful, kind, and polite is something of a motto to him, as he strives to quell any local issues that arise. In battle, he can usually be found on the front line attracting all the attention to himself. To protect his comrades, he would take on anything and everything. Deep underneath the shell of politeness is also a crude, fun individual who doesn't hesitate to joke when his friends make fools of themselves.

E'khei Balduin is born to parents E'kimo (25) and Miah (21) Balduin upon the docks of Silver Bazaar.

1555

H'aqua Balduin is born.

1558

Miah Balduin (28) perishes from an unknown disease. E'kimo (32) begins to drink heavily at the loss of his wife. E'khei (7) begins to care for his young sister, H'aqua (3).

1566

E'khei Balduin (15) leaves his home after assaulting his father. He begins to train in swordsmanship under the watchful eye of a former Sultansworn.

1572

E'khei (21) joins the Immortal Flames as a Private First Class in hopes of battling the threat of the Garlean Empire. Instead, he is sent to Coerthas to aid a small detachment of troops from 2nd Brigade in acquiring chocobos from Ishgard. The birds initially traded are of poor health and need additional care before they are sent to awaiting troops. E'khei makes it his responsibility to care for such birds and begins to refuse to accept any more birds in poor health.

E'khei is recognized by the Immortal Flames as a key member of his detachment. His compassion towards chocobos and unwavering dedication to their health and welfare grant him more responsibility as he is promoted to Flame Corporal. He continues to assist in the procurement of chocobos from Ishgard.

Ishgard "formally" recognizes E'khei's efforts in stomping out the poor condition of chocobos sent to foreign nations. He is awarded with a "trained", yet unbroken chocobo. E'khei names the bird, Tan'to. Their strained relationship begins.

War with the Garlean Empire begins. However, the detachment at Coerthas is ordered to hold position. Procurement of chocobos comes to a standing halt, as Ishgard refuses to ally itself with the rest of Eorzea.

The lesser moon Dalamud begins its fall.

The battle of Carteneau ends when Dalamud breaks open and reveals Bahamut. Bahamut begins to wreak havoc upon the surrounding lands. Meanwhile, heavy changes begin to occur in Coerthas as the temperature drops and it begins to snow heavily. Beasts never before seen begin to appear and Dravanians begin to assault Coerthas and Ishgard once more. The small detachment of Flames soldiers stand fast and aid the people of central Coerthas for a short time, eventually they are shunned and within time, recalled back to Ul'dah.

E'khei (22) gains more recognition with the Immortal Flames and Twin Adders of Gridania as he begins to aid Bentbranch Meadows in capturing chocobos that had fled the aftermath of the Calamity and the sudden temperature change in Coerthas. The capture of such birds led to the Grand Companies no longer needing to procure chocobos from Ishgard, as ranches are created to specifically breed and train them. Eventually, he is promoted to Flame Sergeant Third Class.

The Immortal Flames create the Chocobo Inspector title and officially assign E'khei (23) as one. He is also granted the rank of Flame Sergeant Second Class. His new tasking is to inspect the Chocobokeeps around Thanalan, though not officially run by the Flames, and to perform minimum yearly health checks of all Immortal Flames-issued Chocobos.

Through the efforts of E'khei (25), the overall health and wellness of all the Chocobos within Thanalan are vastly improved over two years. However, the tasking eventually proves quite tiresome for E'khei and he collapses on one of his routine inspections at Camp Drybone. The need for more Chocobo Inspectors is cited as the source and finally the CIC (Chocobo Inspector Corp) is born within the Immortal Flames. After a short time, the other Grand Companies follow the example and create their own corps of Chocobo Inspectors. Often times, Inspectors are exchanged between the Grand Companies for a different viewpoint and eventually a standard is set for chocobo inspections. E'khei is granted command over the Flames CIC and promoted to the rank of Flame Sergeant First Class.

E'khei (26-present) is presently stationed in Ul'dah and heads out for inspections much less. The paperwork is never-ending, though he tends to take too many breaks to spend time assisting Mimigun at the Chocobokeep outside of the Quicksand. He does spend at least one week a moon traveling to all of the Chocobokeeps in Thanalan for inspection and at some point during the year he attempts to have all the Flames-issued birds brought in for a health check. He is eventually granted the promotion to Chief Flame Sergeant, so he can more effectively manage the CIC and those underneath him. As young as he is, however, he is looked down upon by those whom have served much longer and more effectively ... earned their rank.

Anything after this point may or may not be added at a later date! A lot has happened to E'khei since the game started and not all of it will be introduced in this wiki. Some of it you'll just have to find out for yourself!

Menelwen Veara - A long-time friend and Company mate. E'khei regards Menel as a close confidant. He likes to help her with the Honor when he's got the time.

Mylene Wharf - This young Hyur and E'khei have one thing in common ... fishing. They've run into each other on few occasions and typically had very deep conversations. E'khei has exposed much of his inner turmoil during his conversations with her, though they haven't spoken in many moons.

Nylesa Tou - E'khei gets great amusement from Nyls obsession with sandwiches. She and Menelwen enjoy tormenting him over his supposed harem. It's a fair trade.

Faustina Myrron - Faustina approached E'khei while he was at the Chocobokeep in Ul'dah. She noticed how much he cared for the birds and mentioned how she wanted to start her own ranch for raising "racing chocobos." He never thought it strange and even offered to inspect her birds when the time came. The two have been friends ever since.
