Mathilda's parents ran the merchant troupe as well as they could, often bouncing between being on the rise and occasionally being on the drop. It wasn't until Mathilda was around 5 when her parents got lucky with a new business partner that rocketed them to "riches". The money was great and business was booming. The money was enough for her parents to "retire" to a nice little hamlet with friends and family while the business was kept afloat by key people her father trusted.

Growing up, her favorite things to do was play Guardmen and Sahagin with her friends, read adventure books, and any time a stranger visited the hamlet to rest and recuperate, to pester them as much as possible for stories.
