To say that this character is a "work in progress" would be a massive understatement. I've yet to really be able to fully develop Garre'to as a character as of yet but fully intend on doing so in the immediate future. What you see on this page will be altered or scrapped entirely as I get more into the character.

Garre'to Brenna is a roleplaying character on the Balmung legacy server. All OOC content one this page will be displayed in these yellow-ish boxes.

Garre'to Brenna was a member of the Gladiators' Guild during the first several years of the Seventh Umbral Era, who was eventually trained as a novice Paladin by the Sultansworn during their time of need.

After barely coming of-age Garre'to bore witness to the events of the Calamity before being buried in a system of caverns near the city of Ul'dah, where he remained for days before being found by Brass Blades searching for survivors in the territories surrounding the city. From then he lived off of the streets of the Sultanate, making ends meat by taking on trivial chores and jobs that paid enough for him to be able to feed himself. When he found himself wanting a better opportunity, he went to the Gladiators' Guild and pleaded for a chance to prove his worth. His first task was merely to hunt monsters outside of the city walls -- having never handled a sword, before, suffice it to say he failed in this most basic task. When the Guild wrote him off as another fool willing to needlessly throw his life away, one of their senior members saw potential and decided to take Garre'to in to train him in the use of swords.

Garre'to quickly learned how to fight and defend himself and was given another chance to prove himself to the Guild -- the "entrance exam" having consisted of standing off against two other senior members and last as long as possible before blood was drawn. The amount of which he had learned in the months since his previous failure had impressed the guild leadership enough that, even though his opponents had made their mark, he was unequivocally accepted into the guild. From there, he took more complicated jobs and tasks more fitting to his new lot.

Early Life

Garre'to was born on the 25th Sun of the 2nd Umbral Moon in the year 1553 of the Sixth Astral Era, and was the third-born -- the second and last son -- of a family of six. His mother was a "retired" adventurer and his father, urged by their mother to support the family, left to take up the life and was often gone for months at a time. Garre'to had an older brother, Garre'a, an older sister named Ghara, and a younger sister named Uloh. Their family resided near the seas in La Noscea (despite being relatively conservative Moonkeepers). Theirs was a stable home despite the father being away for most of the time.

♦ Behaviour

Open and charismatic even amongst strangers. Garre'to considered himself a bit of a socialite. He eagerly took to the Quicksand most nights when he had no business or duties with the Gladiators Guild to keep him occupied. When partaking in a few drinks at the tavern, he would oftentimes be heard exaggerating a host of stories -- whether they be true or not -- to anyone willing to listen.

Beyond this, Garre'to was usually a calm and collected individual whose focus on his craft remained steadfast.

Despite being a Moonkeeper Miqo'te, Garre'to had long since forsaken the cultural practices of his ilk. Through his time in the Gladiators' Guild he had drifted away from recognizing female Moonkeepers as being his superiors in what is, essentially, a matriarchal society. To that end he can be openly rebellious when with other Miqo'te unless they, too, share his ideals. Thankfully for himself he keeps more to an adventurer's lifestyle, remaining open-minded about the world at large.

Combat

Garre'to wields his favored bastard sword while assuming his standard combat position.

His Style

Garre'to trained in the marriage between the sword and shield, having adapted himself to become a firmly rooted frontline fighter when in combat, begging the attention of his adversaries and keeping his parties protected as well as was possible. Despite his favor towards this particular combative mindset, Garre'to was fairly nimble and quick on his feet, using his impressive reflexes to his advantage.

His Gear

For being a trained Gladiator, and having undergone brief training under the Sultansworn during their time of need, Garre'to adorned himself in practical heavy armor and simple -- yet tempered -- swords with the most durable shields strapped to his arm. He chose to keep things simple, wearing boarhide leather underneath his steel plating.

Discovering the Unsung Heroes of Vylbrand Academy

During the latter days of his training with the Sultansworn, Garre'to happened upon an escalating scene in Ul'dah late one evening and became involved in its progression when he had decided to step in to attempt to, at the very least, break up the fight. When the belligerents took it elsehwere, Garre'to followed after a small party of concerned individuals just so that he could provide some form of assistance. When finally they came upon the scene in Western Thanalan, he and two others set upon both parties in an attempt to conduct a citizens' arrest. Shortly after, a larger group arrived to collect one of the involved individuals and bring peace to the whole situation. Garre'to later learned that this group hailed from Vylbrand Academy, of Limsa Lominsa, and the next day sought out the group himself -- interested in learning more about them. He found entrance into the organization almost immediately, and learned of the Academy's workings and institutions.

The day after, in the evening, he sat in the foyer of the Academy's main hall, surrounded by the Academy's pupils and instructors as they made jolly conversation. The impromptu proceedings were halted when a relatively young woman came to the door of the Academy and offered to sell a host of treats to them. Though they were tantalizing, Garre'to avoided eating for no particular reason. Eventually, he started to see it was a good decision -- those who ingested the cookies were stricken by some kind of curse, in which their minds were devolved into young children, and they suffered hallucinations as the night progressed. Above the Academy, a Garlean airship moved into position and the Academy was set upon by its air-dropped legion. Garre'to followed those who were of sane mind into the secret underground basement of the Academy, confusion overcoming him as everything happened so fast. They all escaped to an airship docked inside of a secret cavern just off of the island, pursued by the Garleans and their agents. It took effort for the ship to get airborne, but when it did they were once again set upon by one of the larger airships. Garre'to, having no other choice but to help, immediately manned one of the cannons in an effort to drive off one of the pursuing airships. Grappling hooks pinned the ship and allowed Garlean soldiers to board. In direct combat, Garre'to and others from the Academy fended off a host of legionaries as they boarded the airship.

When, at last, they had a moment to breathe their ship landed on a secluded island far off of the coast of La Noscea where they could rest and recuperate. With this, he took the opportunity to learn more about what, exactly, he was getting himself into. He learned that Vylbrand Academy was some sort of a "front" for a secret project called the Unsung Heroes, wherein adventurers and heroes alike came together to tackle the world's problems as a group. After learning this, he found himself involved in something much larger than he had anticipated -- but offered his assistance wherever he was needed.

♦ Miscellaneous

Hooks

This character is generally easy to walk up to and RP with. Reactions will differ depending on the situation, but guaranteed RP will be had when socially confronted.

The Name

The name "Garret" can be heard in passing in every corner of Ul'dah and its territories, though no mention of Garre'to's actual name is ever told. To help with this, Garre'to usually refers to himself as Garret, but will introduce himself with both names.

The Gear

Garre'to's white armor is unmistakable and easy to recognize by anyone familiar with Garret's reputation.

The Fighting Style

When in passing across the fields of Thanalan -- and anywhere else in Eorzea -- Garre'to's combat prowess has few equals. A Miqo'te fighting in armor and being able to move as though unencumbered can be easy to recognize -- however, it is not often that he will fight as quickly as his reputation bids him to.

The Haunt

Garre'to frequents the Quicksand in Ul'dah almost on a nightly basis.
