Riordyn Ashentyr was born Kirok'a Jlsul into the Keepers of the Moon clan, and spent the majority of his youth being raised within one of the small Miqo'te bands that call the Black Shroud home. Complications during childbirth had left his mother unsuitable to carry child again, and so he was commonly referred to amongst his kind as a cursed existence. Seeking refuge from his own world, Kirok'a found solace in the written one, and quickly developed a passion for reading which would mature throughout the years from a healthy interest in the academia into an insatiable thirst for knowledge.
