She lived with her family in the Raen homeland for a few years until she was 6 and her thirst for learning was apparent. After some deliberation parents decided to send her off for more schooling. Ari was moved to Sharlayan and placed under the tutelage of an older scholar who taught her Alchemy and everything he knew about botany but that wasn't enough for the young Raen. According to her whenever she was released with some free time she would attend any open lectures and found herself enjoying Allagan and Nymian histories the most. Around the age of 15 Arietty soon learned a forbidden spell to use Aether to see at the cost of her own lifeforce, she swore only to use the power very little counting on her near perfect ability to recall anything from memory including pages in books, smells, sounds and how something felt.

The sea so beautiful and it's architecture so unlike Gridania's, she began to spend more and more of her time there, and soon found a style of combat that fitted her much better as well. Summoning a Carbuncle as an Arcanist not only gave her an adorable companion, but meant far less actual physical exertion.

Often she would allow her Egi's to fight battles for her and then upon finishing whatever the days task, she would visit the Culinarian's Guild and feast upon rich delicacies. When she gained access to the Gold Saucer things got a bit out of hand and she did little but sit around playing games all day and eat. Her weight ballooned and had Ishgard not recently opened its borders she would probably have retired from the adventuring life. Adventuring in new lands helped her shed some of the weight though it was hard going for a while. Recently though she finds herself once again spending more and more time at the Saucer and in restaurants with only her desire for pretty baubles getting her out and about.
