Some information presented below is written as it was told by Ryoko Stormsong, and may require verification.
Ryoko is, before all else, adventurous. She tries her best to be good, but growing up in the untamed backwoods of La Noscea has left her with little knowledge of society's rules and etiquette. She was raised to believe in freedom, courage, and the strength of La Noscea, but being so young and having no worldly experience, she has little concept of what any of that means.

Ryoko was born the daughter of Barrett Stormsong and Kana Ntayo, Barrett being a Hyuran Maelstrom marine and Kana a young Miqo'te girl from Gridania. When Ryoko's mother died during childbirth, Kana's family wanted to take the infant back to the Shroud to be raised with the rest of Kana's tribe. Rather than allow this, Barrett took leave of the capital and created a new home in La Noscea's northern wilderness, the location unknown to Kana's relatives.

Ryoko Stormsong, while not a very impressive adventurer, is perhaps one of the more inspiring. With no discernible skills and naught but a vague description of a lost relic to guide her, Ryoko seeks to claim her family's legacy. Leading a band composed of her older sister, a disgraced Temple Knight, and her loyal canine companion, she searches across Eorzea for the mystical sword Ilyandra, Bane of Dragons, lost years ago. She hasn't even the slightest clue where it might be.

Ryoko spent the first many years of her life on Barrett's homestead. There he taught her the essential skills of survival in the harsh wilderness, along with the art of the lance. His stories of war and adventure on the high seas instilled her with an endless curiosity about the world, and the grand majesty of the land around them gave her a profound appreciation for the beauty of nature.

New faces were few and far between in Ryoko's childhood, and those she did meet were only ever Midlanders and Roegadyns. As such, Ryoko had very little concept of what a Miqo'te really was, and Barrett had little desire to inform her, for fear that she might try to re-unite with her mother's tribe. She'd realized early on that she was different from those around her, but only in the way that one might have different colored skin, or be unusually tall. Barrett also took great care to fill her with a pride for all things Lominsan, lest she someday be tempted away to foreign lands.

It was at the age of 10 when Ryoko first encountered magic. Barrett had overheard that an Ishgardian priest was passing through on a pilgrimage, and sought the man out. Seeing an opportunity for Ryoko to have real education, even if briefly, Barrett beseeched the priest to come teach his daughter. By the time the priest continued on his journey many months later, he had taught Ryoko to wield white magic, and indoctrinated her to the ways of Halone. Before he left her, the priest gifted Ryoko with several sacred texts, and advised her to continue her studies.

Though the Calamity scarcely touched Ryoko's home, Barrett had often told her that war could find them at any time. With La Noscea threatened on all fronts, he knew that he could very well have to fight for the future of La Noscea. Though the decision was not easy, in Ryoko's 13th year, Barrett heeded Lominsa's call for more troops and returned to his former duty. He swore to Ryoko that he would return one day, and bid her farewell. However, Ryoko could only bear to stay put for a few short weeks. Bringing nothing but a few days rations, her father's spear, and a staff given to her by the priest (but completely forgetting a map), Ryoko struck off to the south. She had no concrete plan or destination for this journey, but a singular goal on her mind: To follow in her father's footsteps, and find out what it meant to fight for La Noscea.

Ryoko arrived in Limsa on the first night of the Moonfire Faire, and was immediately enthralled by the beauty and festivities around her. After briefly joining in the fun, she found the nearest Maelstrom recruiter and insisted she be enlisted. However, the recruiter informed her, with great concern, that the navy was no place for such a young girl. Down but not defeated, Ryoko further explored the city to find another opportunity. It was at the Drowning Wench where Ryoko overheard talk of some lost treasure, and the fortune that could be had for those who found it. She was intrigued by the idea and decided that if she couldn't be a sailor, she'd be a treasure hunter! Of course, she hadn't the faintest idea of what looking for treasure involved, but she was determined to find out.

===Current Ryoko-Events===

*"I just arrived in Limsa Lominsa for the first time today! Daddy told me stories about it, but I didn't think everything would be so big! They have these paper lanterns everywhere, and there were fireworks out on the water. Oh, and I saw a lalafell! A couple of 'em, actually. They're really cute! One of them was selling these strange robes I'd never seen before. They were really pretty and I ''had'' to buy one!"

*"I've only been here a day and I'm already making new friends! Today I met two lalafells (real lalafells! they're everywhere in the city!) who had the most ''amazing'' stories! Their names were Dach and Geal, and I guess they're pretty famous around here. They sounded like really strong and brave heroes, and Geal said they beat a wizard at gambling and even fought a giant turtle! I hope I can have adventures like that some day! They had this friend named Gipsy, too. She was really tall! They both wanted to take her on a date, but she didn't seem to like that... I don't know why, both of them were so cool!"
+
Barrett’s epic tale began insignificantly. The Holy See had once again called upon House Fortemps to pledge sons to the armies of the Archbishop, a duty from which most never returned, but which few would dare refuse for fear of being branded a heretic. Young Barrett Stormsong took up the banner of his house and marched to Dravania, almost certain to never be seen again.
+
At the edge of the world and surrounded by vile foes, Barrett’s company soon found itself overwhelmed by the never-ending Dravinian Horde, as so many had before them. Though their hearts were courageous and their will like iron, the sons of Fortemps could not hold out forever. Their lines broke, and all were slaughtered by the forces of hell. There, dying in the mud as the feeling of cold rain slowly turned to numbness, Barrett was spared the specter of death.

*"I've only been in Limsa for two days and I've already made so many new friends! Today I found Miss Sasha and her friends! She was with this really tall man named See-rel, and a girl who was wearing the coolest pink robe! She wasn't very talkative though... Still, they all seemed really nice and Miss Sasha said she'd like to go look for treasure with me!"
+
As he recounts the tale, the clouds parted and a herald of Halone came from the sky. Yet this Valkyrie was not here to take Barrett away to Valhalla. Halone yet had a purpose for him. The herald ordered Barrett to his feet, and entrusted to him the holy blade ''Ilyandra'', whose light brought him back from the brink of death. To restore hope, and liberate his people from fear, he says, was his God-given task. Thus he cut a great path of righteous retribution back to his homeland, arriving once more in his home of Coerthas after three years of campaigning. The House celebrated his return, and though many have doubted his tale, none questioned his prowess in battle. For many years he led the charge in the battle, repelling countless assaults against the frontier and chasing darkness from its wretched hovels.

*"It's been about a week since I arrived in Limsa, and I just found my first treasure! A nice old man named Baderon told me that I should look for treasure in a cave just south of the city. It was full of big, scary frogs! But I found a necklace in there! It was in the mud in there, but it was really shiny when I cleaned it off. I was so excited, I went straight back to Baderon! He said that I should try to sell it in the markets, which I guess is what you do with treasure. He was even nice enough to come with me! We went to a stall that was selling all kinds of stuff. I asked the man there if he wanted to buy my treasure, but he didn't want it... but then Baderon told him it was valuable, and the man gave me 50 gil for it! Baderon is so smart. Thanks to him, I'm a real treasure hunter now!"
+
The legacy he forged with ''Ilyandra'' took him to the farthest reaches of the Northern wastes, and across the woodland nation of Gridania, where he met the woman who would bear his children. It was a Miqo’te maiden whom he fell in love with, and though he had many long years left to wage war against Ishgard’s enemies, he realized that he must have a son to carry on his legacy.
+
Barrett’s passion for his foreign lover would ultimately be his undoing. The comfort of domestic life had dulled his fury, and he had not even an heir to show for it. Miqo’te women are not wont to birth Hyur children, and though it seemed fate would smile upon them twice, his hopes were dashed both times as he was given daughters. Were they pureblooded Hyur, they might still have proved worthy heirs to the Stormbringer legend. Yet they were small of stature, weak, and unfit for war. Worse still, neither of them were particularly clever.
+
Though still holding on for Halone to hear his prayers once more, Barrett fell into the routine of family life, and slaying dragons and heretics became an increasingly small part of his life. It was perhaps fitting that as he lost his edge, so too would ''Ilyandra'' become lost to him. The blade which had felled a dozen dragons and countless unbelievers was unceremoniously taken by a thief in the night.

===Rumors===
+
Barrett searched for the blade for many long months. When he returned to Coerthas, he had the thief’s head as his trophy, but the blade had long changed hands and he was no closer to finding it than when he departed. No longer could he bear to leave his family to fend for themselves, and thus he returned home, his days as a holy crusader finally behind him. He swore that he would never reveal this grand chapter of his life to his children, nor drive them to become what he once was. The Stormbringer had died, and would fall into obscurity.

Yet the people of the Highlands did not forget. As the Dravanian threat grew ever greater, they became resentful of their former protector, and of the family he abandoned them for. For reasons they could not understand, the Stormsong daughters were spurned by some, and shunned by many more still. Ryoko and Mishka were only welcome within the walls of House Fortemps, save for the few kind souls which could be found on the Frontier. It was one such soul, in the form of a holy scholar, who unknowingly revealed to them their father’s secret. It was Ryoko who decided that she and Mishka would find the mythical ''Ilyandra''. All her life she had felt no sense of self-worth, and realized that she was unlikely to amount to anything. Yet, if she could return ''Ilyandra'' to the legendary Stormbringer, she’d be a hero! She and Mishka debated the subject for weeks, but in the end they committed to the journey. So it was that on an uneventful afternoon, the sisters informed their parents that they were going outside to play, and began their journey down the mountain. With no thought to bring Gil, or food, or even more than a single set of clothes, the Stormsongs set off into the world entirely unprepared.

Living off the land (but more accurately, stealing popotos from a lalafell farmer), Mishka and Ryoko found themselves all the way in the Twelveswood. However, it soon dawned on them that they had absolutely no frame of reference for what ''Ilyandra'' looked like, or more importantly, where it might be. Yet not all was lost. They happened upon a travelling merchant along the road, and considered shaking him down for more popotos. They wisely chose, instead, to inquire where they might find a missing artifact. The merchant had no information of his own to share, but suggested that some of his connections might. He led them to the Tonberry’s Lantern, a tavern where tradesmen from across the realm met to make deals and discuss their wares. The Stormsongs found a wealth of information from the merchants, but needed a place to stay while they explored each lead. Thus it was that Mishka and Ryoko came to live in the Utility Closet at the Tonberry’s Lantern.
