Appearance

Leo is possessed of a fairly sizable height for a Midlander, as well as an obviously powerful build. He has a physique one would expect of an experienced fighter, with broad shoulders and a sturdy constitution. His facial features reflect this to a degree, given his fairly strong jaw and hooked, somewhat eagle-like nose. Closely examining his physical features, one might say he has Highlander blood in there, somewhere.

However, Leo's most readily apparent feature is his pale blond hair. Close behind would be the near perpetual grin he wears, matching nicely with his bright mane. Though his eyes are a dark, earthen brown, they still manage to gleam with joviality more often than not. Leo's actions reflect an inherent cheerfulness that is evident in his countenance at nearly all times, right down to his fairly myriad freckles, which manage to persist well into his adulthood. Despite how quickly his facial hair grows, Leo is certain to shave every morning to keep his face clear.

Owing to his experience, Leo has a fair number of scars upon his body. The most obvious of which is the one residing on his right cheek, sloping upwards towards his nose. Most of the other markings of combat are hidden by the clothing or armor he wears. He almost always dresses modestly, covering the majority of the scars that paint a tapestry on his limbs and torso. Of course, he is quick to boast about some of them.

History

Leo originally hails from a foreign land, a nation far to Eorzea's north, where he spent his childhood and youth. His father and other mentors trained Leo in combat with a sword from a young age while he was there, alongside his older sister. Beyond caring deeply for his family, he mentions little else of his time spent before coming to Eorzea, though it does not seem to be out of a desire to hide anything. It may be that his past is rather uneventful, or that he feels it is not worth mentioning.

Little more than fifteen cycles ago, Leo and his older sister, Ara, ventured to Eorzea in hopes of finding fortune by becoming adventurers. Their initial journey brought them first to Ul'dah, Jewel of Thanalan. After the initial hardships an immigrant would expect, both found their dreams fulfilled, becoming relatively successful rookie adventurers. After traveling and performing leves together for some time, Leo set out on his own to see all of Eorzea, while Ara remained in Ul'dah. Despite going their separate ways, they kept up correspondence with each other, as well as with their parents in their homeland.

More than anything, Leo has earned a sizable pool of experience from his journeys. Though he did make something of a name for himself, acquiring fame was one of the smallest of his goals. He placed much more value in thrill of adventure and combat, as well as aiding those he made acquaintance. From fighting dragons to delving depths, Leo's wanderlust and desire to aid others has led him through many bizarre situations. Accompanying many other adventurers on his journeys, he rarely stuck to any single group for an extended period.

From his adventures, he has earned recognition and contacts in various organizations that he continues to do work alongside, such as Clan Centurio, the Grand Companies, and the Adventurers' Guild. In particular, he has often aided and been aided by the Maelstrom, especially upon the Hunt, and owes them some manner of fealty.

Recently, Leo has come to reside in a house in Thanalan, alongside his older sister.

Personality

A cheerful demeanor and attitude are the most evident features of Leo's behavior, along with a general foolishness. He places great value in maintaining a positive outlook on life, even in dire situations. While that is not to say he is entirely without somber moments, they are few and far between. Always quick to hurl a jest, particularly at his own expense, Leo enjoys seeing others in good moods as much as enjoys being in one himself.

Leo carries his carefree attitude into general optimism, though he acknowledges it is usually blind and naive. This naivete leads him to gullibility at times, as he is fairly quick to trust others. Oftentimes, he looks on the brighter side of dangerous situations, attempting to live up to the ideal of a stalwart adventurer. Courage, morality, kindness, loyalty, honor, and a generally heroic spirit are values he aspires to, fitting nicely with his optimistic outlook. On a similar token, Leo is quite happy to instruct and help others, attempting to better them in any way he can.

Though he is hardly a diplomat, Leo will attempt to speak through issues that might be solved with speech. When diplomacy fails and push comes to shove, however, he has no qualms with resorting to strength of arms. He is quick to fight for his friends and values, throwing himself into danger quite easily. Favoring calm and acumen during turmoil despite his usual eccentricity, Leo will stow his jokes and jests for a sword and a serious demeanor when danger rears its head.

Leo has often been accused of being an idiot, given his unflappable optimism, regular stubbornness, and occasional naivete. While he certainly is not the most scholarly of adventurers, the Hyur has come to possess quite a bit of wisdom through his long career as an adventurer. Through experience and his affinity for brotherly camaraderie, he has come to be a reliable mentor or guide to younger adventurers in his time, as well as to some of his peers.

In the end, Leo is an individual confident in himself, though he is extremely quick to acknowledge his faults, usually with a biting remark of self-deprecation. While he will also make mocking comments about others, Leo attempts to make them in good spirit, and will refrain if it causes offense. However, he can be oblivious and insensitive at times, accidentally ruffling feathers through his own lack of tact.

Vesna Novaar (♥)

Vesna is the person Leo cares most about in this world. It is safe to say he views her romantically, and he would crawl his way through the hells and back to make her happy. In some ways, he already has. And he would not even think to complain about it. Leo is fiercely protective for the Miqo'te, even if she believes it's her personal duty to guard him, instead. As far as the Hyur is concerned, he's got the perfect companion.

Ara is Leo's older sister by three years, and she has always been sure to take care of him in anyway she can. Though they have their sibling rivalries, the two of them are as close as a brother and sister could be. Leo is eternally grateful for all his sibling has done for them over the three decades he's known her.

Khoba Lhyr (●)
Over the time Leo has known Khoba, she has proven to be an incorrigible ruffian, an unmitigated ragamuffin, a constant pest, and a total nuisance. Leo adores it, and has no trouble considering the mischievous Miqo'te to be a strong contender for his greatest friend.

Areas of Expertise

• Martial: If a weapon can be classified as a sword, Leo is most assuredly proficient with it. He is quite capable with a shield, and is not bothered overmuch by wearing even the heaviest sorts of armor. His skill with hand-to-hand combat is fairly refined, particularly in the field of punching and grappling. He is a well-trained practitioner of his homeland's unarmed combat techniques. Further, he is no slouch with an axe, especially after extensive training from Vesna Novaar. He has received a great deal of practice with other weapons of the melee variety, marking him as a proficient hand with them, though perhaps not a master. He even boasts considerable skill with the use of thrown weapons, such as tomahawks, javelins, and daggers. In contrast, he is relatively unskilled with common ranged weapons, such as bows, crossbows, and guns, though he has received basic instruction with them. Either way, he dislikes using ranged weapons, and prefers a close-quarters approach.
  

Though Leo's combat prowess is certainly focused on direct force and strength, he is not lacking in agility. He can move with surprising finesse in heavy armor, owing to his experience with it, and has commendably dexterous hands. His natural athleticism avails him frequently in more graceful pursuits. All the same, he prefers a more direct fighting style, utilizing his strongest quality: his raw durability.

A small quirk of his training was that he was certain to learn an ambidextrous style from a young age, allowing him to fight right- or left-handed with the about same amount of skill. However, he is unskilled at dual-wielding, despite this.

• Crafting: Leo can maintain various sorts of armor and weapons, and knows the basics of putting them together. He can craft some sorts of equipment with the appropriate tools. In addition, he has some practical knowledge of magitek acquired through occasional "experimentation" in the past. He is also decent at more domestic skills, such as weaving, sewing, carpentry, and cooking.
• Other: Leo is capable of playing a few musical instruments with a good deal of skill, is a skilled singer, and is a capable dancer. Though his knowledge of these musical pursuits is tempered by his homeland, and rather strange because of this. Beyond musical talent, Leo also has an inherently strong ability to know when aether is about, despite a lack of skill in magic. This is a double-edged sword, as aetheryte travel is particularly brutal on his usually sturdy constitution.

Leo values all of the Twelve, particularly Oschon, though he rarely worships formally in a venue such as a chapel or church. He tends to keep his worship to himself, praying in his own home. He was close friends with a priest of Oschon while growing up, and he is thus very familiar with many religious practices and rituals concerning him.

Quirks

Leo has a tendency to scratch his head and rub his neck often when talking, particularly while nervous or confused. His most obvious habit is grinning like an idiot, sometimes without provocation. Further, he is quick to laugh, and does an extremely poor job at hiding or stifling it, often leading to snorting or other unflattering noises. Additionally, he possesses other strange mannerisms that hint at foreign and military upbringing, including a preference to saluting rather than bowing.

Equipment

Leo possesses a veritable armory of various types of swords, as well as varieties of armor. He is proficient with most, if not all, of his collection. Over the years, he has lost many weapons and other equipment in the field of battle. This has left him with a strong attachment to the tools that he has managed to keep with him for a long time.

Leo usually favors heavy armor and weapons to go along with them. Among his most used are his zweihander, Epitaph; his greataxe, Regalia; his longsword, Claiomh Solais; his shield, Lionheart; his claymore, Storyteller; and his halberd, Fellowship.

Family

Leo shares a house with his sister, Ara, and is in regular contact with his parents and other relatives in his homeland. Together, his immediate family consists of his mother, father, sister, two uncles (one adopted), and an aunt.

Companions

Through a strange course of fate, Leo became acquainted with a juvenile bear while adventuring through Coerthas alongside Vesna Novaar. Thrust into a battle against Dravanians, he fought alongside this bear, earning mutual respect for the beast. Without home or family, the bear decided to follow Leo and Vesna as his new sleuth, earning themselves a proud ally. Or so they expected. The bear proved to be quite dog-like in his mannerisms, and was a quick study in learning how to fight alongside his companions. He is loyal, courageous, and playful, and his wits and good manners are fit to out-pace Leo.

RP Information

I'm open to many forms of RP from all sorts of people. I don't mind details that dance around or outside of lore, as long as it doesn't break it or bend it too much; I value the lore and like to follow it as much as possible. Though I personally do not subscribe overly much to the practice, I certainly do not mind playing with very powerful characters.

I do not ERP or do other things of that nature, though I don't really judge if that's your cup of tea. I don't have many other scruples besides that.

Leo is an experienced adventurer, and willing to lend a hand to those that need it. If your character may be looking for a helping hand or even somebody to teach them the ropes, Leo may be a possible candidate.
