Character

General

Darien Alphonse Onchar VII of the Ul'dahn Onchar family. Due to his dabbling in effectively anything he can get his hands into, there are many stories of him popping into and swiftly out of areas of Ul'dahn society. He went by the name 'Hurricane Darien' in his nine-month stint in the Ul'dahn gladitorial arena. Good fortune and swift tactical response have won him two medals for Distinguished Service in the Immortal Flames. Anyone who has an interest in Triple Triad has likely seen him at least once, as his love of the game often sees him either scouring tables in the Battlehall or cleaning up the ones in his own small card shop.

Appearance

The first thing most notice about Darien is the eye patch; understandable, as scars tell stories, and he wears incredibly fancy patches that cover the entire socket and bear intricate designs. Dark chestnut hair is parted above it, cut just above the collar, which he often combs idly when in thought. His remaining eye is the green of a hearty forest, though changes in lighting or aetheric fluctuations can change the color in strange patterns. Darien stands six fulms tall, with broad shoulders and a defined musculature borne of combat experience. Astonishingly few scars decorate his form, owing to well-made armor and a healthy avoidance of magic-wielding opponents.

Personality

Darien maintains at all times an air of regality; though he may now be an adventurer, he was raised a gentleman of class, wealth and power - leading to habits difficult for him to break. Pleasant and apparently open-minded, Darien is rarely known to refuse a conversation, and seems to take each to heart, listening to those who would approach him intently and engaging when he believes he can help. Oftentimes, however, this can lead to him sounding rather preachy, attributing blessings to the Gods and failures to mortal weakness.

Combat

Darien's combat is a mish-mash of skills learned through his many hobbies over the years. A young man with wealth and few expectations can find many ways to waste both, and Darien is no exception. Having spent time dabbling in many different schools - learning the sword and spear from the gladiators, studying external martial arts with the pugilists, dabbling in thaumaturgy (though with minimal aptitude for the basics of fire and ice, his fascination for the fury of storms somehow led to him excelling in the use of thunder magicks) and picking up some minor conjury from a year-long exchange program with Gridania. This has left him something of a jack of all trades on the battlefield, and while his versatility has led to a unique combat style, he cannot truly be called a master of anything save for being versatile itself.

Relationships

Family

Darien is the son of Morpheus Raymond Onchar IX, the current head of the household - a line of ceruleum barons known in recent years for cut-throat business dealings and opulence. His mother is presumed deceased. There are rumors of a number of illegitimate half-siblings, but Darien refuses to confirm or deny their existence or his father's behavior. In fact, he seems suspiciously furious of any mention of his father.

Darien considers everyone his friend. Even if they don't know it yet.

Enemies

Few named enemies exist for Darien, as he directs his ire at foes that cannot be individualized; hordes of undead, the vast Empire, and the very real threat of classist oppression even amongst his peers.
