Born in Gridania Synn lived a relatively normal life on his family’s farm house for seven years. As young children are wont to do Synn became enamored with his parents tales of their adventures, seeing wondrous sights and their heroic exploits before settling down. Growing up hearing such tales how could Synn not want to experience the very same? For better or worse though considering the outcome it would be worse, Synn got his chance to play the hero when one of his childhood friend and her mother were kidnaped. Miraculously Synn managed to save both, but there was no hero’s welcome to praise Synn for what he had done.

Frightened by the child that killed a man the mother hid her daughter from him calling him a “Devil.” Pretty soon this happened with the rest of Synn’s friends and the adults treated not only himself, but his family as well as outcasts. However Synn accepted this title with pride, he had acted as his parents would have and saved two lives. He loved his parents and was proud to be the son of heroes; he wouldn’t allow anyone to slander all that they had done. Unfortunately Synn’s love and pride for his parents would not change how everyone treated them. Not even a week had passed and this treatment had gotten severely worse to the point where Synn and his family left Gridania altogether. Still Synn did not dismay, after all he would finally be able to go on adventures with his family and be a hero to others.

A few years or traveling with his family, Synn became increasingly bitter as most of the heroic exploits he took part of held the same result as Gridania. One of the most severe cases would be when Synn and the family spent some time near Ul’dah. There they met with a conjurer who Synn at first took a liking to because after he had learned that Synn’s parents were Dark Knights he readily accepted them and treated them far better than those in Gridania. At that age and his parents glad that Synn seemingly made a friend after leaving Gridania couldn’t have known that this conjurer’s actions were all a ruse. Under the cover of night and after gaining the family’s trust, the conjurer kidnapped Synn and tortured him physically and mentally. After Synn’s family saved him he became obsessed with becoming stronger, and the strength he wanted was that of his parents. He wanted to be a Dark knight like them.

Synn’s parents were hesitant to make Synn a Dark knight and they would never be able to as the war with Garlemald was in full swing. And Synn’s family joined in the war only to die in the Calamity leaving Synn to live four years in an orphanage further adding on to his bitterness. When the news of Synn’s family passing reached him (thanks to a soldier who fought with them, gave Synn his mother’s pendant and his father’s journal) he was outraged and vowed revenge against the Garleans. Because of this outburst he was noticed by an Ul’dahn noble who with the agreement of Synn himself quickly adopted him into his family.

Though Synn agreed to be adopted he had no desire to remain with such a family and he planned to use the nobles wealth to help with his revenge. Sadly the noble too had plans to use Synn and after stealing Synn’s family mementos he forced him to play the role of Lennard Teyrnon and secure a profitable marriage tie. After one year as Lennard, Synn destroyed the noble’s reputation and made his way to Ul’dah to become an official adventurer. Along the way something unexpected happened.

Culain Bloom, a Roegadyn who Synn considered an uncle was making a living as a blacksmith and had taken up residence in a town leading to Ul’dah. With Culain alive Synn remained in the town for quite a while, becoming close with another resident of the town a girl named Cara Aleena, Synn became less focused on revenge and found joy in his time in the small town. However, once again Synn would meet with tragedy.  Cara along with others were actually Garlean spies who set out to establish a covert forward base near Ul’dah. The plan was thwarted on Synn’s twentieth Nameday, but the cost –Culain’s life- left Synn with a deeper hatred for Garleans as well as an overwhelming emptiness. This emptiness clung to Synn like a leech and he was fed up with the absurd world that seemed to spite him. Though he suffered so much there still was something to drive him onward.

As an Adventurer, Synn searched for other dark knights in Eorzea to become one himself to honor his parents and to die as a “Devil” and a hero. This didn’t work out as he intended as his search took far longer than he anticipated. On a whim and because he worked with its members before Synn became a member of Mythril Wings to keep his coin purse heavy and to fund his searches for Dark knights. All of this payed off quite well as soon after joining with Mythril Wings he was able to get into Ishgard and become a Dark knight. Of all the Dark knights out there his Grandfather was the last person he expected to teach him how to be a Dark knight considering Synn’s father eloped. Regardless Synn had what he wanted and didn’t care as to why his grandfather would teach him now. Shortly after becoming a Dark knight a member of Mythril Wings charged into a Garlean Castrum. Now everything was in place, Synn would sacrifice himself to let Mythril Wings escape from the Castrum. But again this didn’t go as Synn planned. One of Mythril Wings member, Adeya Evenar, saved him. At First Synn was angered by this and lashed out at Adeya and others, But after talking it became apparent that not only Adeya but other members of Mythril Wings considered Synn a friend.

Basic Info

Height: 5'7

Weight: Average

Appearance: With Short brown hair, brown eyes, some stubble lining his chin, and three scars on his face Synn seems like your average Midlander Hyur Adventurer, at least on the surface. He is lightly tanned on account of him spending most of his time outside but he mostly hides his features in black clothing or armor. Although he is constantly dressed in black as if in mourning –regardless of weather, social gatherings, or battlefields-- he carries himself with pride, or rather arrogance. Below the surface, underneath his black clothing reveals something damaged, both in mind and body. Synn has gone through a lot in his younger years and much more as he grew older. Though traveling Eorzea with his family when they were alive was the best years of his life it would be a lie to say that he got away unscathed from their many adventures. Now that Synn has grown into a man the number of scars he has almost entirely cover his body thanks to his murderous tendencies. In addition to that there are even scars that would suggest that he was tortured at one point in his life. Because of this however Synn has the body of a seasoned soldier, which he makes full use of in battle.

History

Born in Gridania Synn lived a relatively normal life on his family’s farm house for seven years. As young children are wont to do Synn became enamored with his parents tales of their adventures, seeing wondrous sights and their heroic exploits before settling down. Growing up hearing such tales how could Synn not want to experience the very same? For better or worse though considering the outcome it would be worse, Synn got his chance to play the hero when one of his childhood friend and her mother were kidnaped. Miraculously Synn managed to save both, but there was no hero’s welcome to praise Synn for what he had done.

For now Synn has chosen not to throw away his life and instead protects the apparent friendships he has with Asheloux Thalantos and Adeya Evenar as well as other members of Mythril Wings. In addition to this Synn has reached out to his mother’s family as well as his father’s to accumulate more meaningful relationships though like most things it is uncertain how things will go.

Personality

Generally mistrusting and arrogant Synn keeps almost everyone at arm’s length with few exceptions being so far being his chocobo, Adeya Evenar – a female Miqo’te keeper whom he has worked with for quite a while now. And Asheloux Thalantos – An Elezen who’s a bit of an arse but has earned Synn’s respect by taking care of Mythril Wings and its members in his own way. Among current colleagues he has grown comfortable enough to be a bit more relaxed though not enough to completely open up to them. Among this group of people Synn has become fiercely loyal and protective of them, even more so for the two specifically mentioned. For everyone else –except Paladins and the religious-- he waits to see if they are worthy of respect before giving it out to them. To those who have earned his disdain Synn is rather foul mouthed, often mocking them with a condescending tone. For the most part however he’ll tend to keep his thoughts to himself provided said person/persons aren’t talking to him or those he knows and he is present.

From a young age Synn was always the inquisitive sort questioning why things are rather than just accepting it. This is thanks to the time he spent traveling Eorzea with his family seeing unique sights filling within him a sense of wonderment. Because of this he has spent some time among the guilds of the Gladiators, Marauders, Pugilists, Lancers, Rouges, Thaumaturges, and even the Arcanists learning a bit from each but ultimately feeling unfulfilled with what he’s learned until he became a Dark knight.

In most situations Synn is led by his heart instead of his head. This on occasion has caused trouble not only for himself but others as well. One example of this impulsiveness is where he’ll often shirk on his duties as a member of Mythril Wings to go traveling for a time. Considering himself a hero, Synn goes out of his way to look for people to help on his many adventurers and is quite eager to do so even more so since becoming a Dark knight to prove to all that “Even a Devil can be a hero.” As a Dark knight Synn’s pride in them, himself, and his “Devil” persona has grown exponentially, to reject or slander any of these would draw his ire.

Because of his pragmatic sense of justice and the loss of his family, he has developed a great deal of hate for the Garleans and is downright murderous whenever he encounters them. This type of behavior also extends to those he deems criminals. Even when not fighting Garleans or criminals Synn enjoys fighting anything and toying with them, proving to himself that he has become strong. However despite enjoying fights and the cool arrogance he exudes he is actually quite depressed, wanting to die for any noble cause (so far Mythril Wings’ being his main focus) which is the only thing motivating him to get out of bed. His interactions and apparent friendships with Mythril Wings’ members however have quelled his depression for the time being.

Other Notes

Now uses his father's journal as his own.

Wears his mother's pendant(her soulstone) and carries the sword his parents gave him when he was seven.

When not out looking for information he is usually passed out from working to much or increasing his proficiency as a Blacksmith.

Prefers spicy food over anything else.

Isn't really up for celebrating his birthday after Culain's death.

Believing people who worship The Twelve to be too dependent on them they are seen as weak and as a result Synn himself isn't religious.

His dislike for Paladins comes from them locking up criminals rather than killing them which is seen as a weakness in his eyes.

Isn't ashamed about fighting dirty.
