"It's geer, not jur - an' yeah, I know Sergeant Gyr. Came with the other Ala Mhigan refugees twenty years back. Good soldier, always followed orders. Why? What do you want to know about him?

Character
Appearance
"Do you need to ask? He's Ala Mhigan - so he's big. But, when you go lookin' for him, don't look for a lumberin' brute, he may be big but he's no barbarian. He actually grows his hair out - no, no braids. Believe it or not, he favors a younger fashion. Kinda mopish. And with that beard of his I always thought he looked scruffy. Anyroad, dark hair, dark skin,an' he's got miqo'te eyes. You know, two different colors? One's really pale blue, an' the other - well, it's orange. Yeah, I said orange. Hey, at least he still has both eyes!"
Personality
"Why in the hells are you askin' me for! Fine, fine. I'd say he's... friendly? Heh, I'm actually at a loss here. I mean, he's a calm guy - I've never seen him lose his head. But what always stuck out to me was how approachable he is. We're talkin' about a man who stands a few ilms shy of seven fulms, an' he'll greet an' shake your hand like everyone's standin' at the same height. An' somewhere along the way he must'f read a fancy book or somethin, cause I've seen him bowin' over women's hands - an' I'm pretty sure I saw him kiss Lieutenant Sarielle's hand. Always struck me as weird to see a man you'd expect to be swingin' an axe into some Garlean's skull actin' like a proper gentleman.
An' speakin' of Garleans - don't let him near them. Ala Mhigan an' all that."</i.>
Style
"You've got to be kiddin' me with this, right? Ugh. Right, well, I already told you that he wears his hair like a younger man, an' there's his beard - more like stubble than a proper beard. Let's see, let' see... I won't lie, I've seen him at The Quicksand after hours often enough. He dresses well for a soldier - seems to favor doublet vests - probably to show off his arms, no doubt. Oh! An' he always seems to be wearin' ridin' boots. In Thanalan heat, no less. Anyroad, he always shows up for muster clean and trimmed, his uniforms are neat, his boots are cared for, an' his spear's honed an' oiled. Yeah, I said spear - an' the way he wields it you'd think he was a Dragoon straight from Ishgard."
Relations
Family
-Winter Gyr
"That's the Sergeant's father. Still alive too - Ala Mhigan soldier, an' Gyr's not an orphan. Anyroad, Winter's a good, if sad, man. Wouldn't you be if you were forced to flee for your life with your wife an' child? Thing is, when he got to Ul'dah, he didn't lose his head like the rest of the Ala Mhigans seemed to. No, he worked - an' I mean he worked! Earned citizenship within a year, bought a house, hells, he even enrolled his kid at the university. An' I'ver never heard word nor whisper that he's even holdin' a grudge against the Empire, let alone joined the resistance."
-Noelle Gyr
"Ah - yeah, Noelle Gyr. She's a tragedy. Pretty as you please, even for a highlander, but not an onze of strength in her frame. Think I overheard Gyr explainin' that his mother was always sickly, an' the reason his father's such a talented herbalist is that he dedicated his life to keepin' his wife healthy, instead of fightin'. It's worked though, she's still livin' an' well. Sometimes she an' Winter'll wait outside the Hall for Gyr to get off duty - an' she's always smilin'. Even if it's blisterin' hot out an' she still has to wear a blanket to stay warm, she's always smilin' an' laughin'."
Friends
-Brynhilde Wulfe
"Uh, he's a highlander - she's a highlander - why do I have to spell this out for you? The man's older than thirty an' he's unmarried, of course he's goin' to date other- what? No, I don't know for sure that they're datin' but I've seen the woman. She's pretty, an' they ride together, when they're not flirtin' while she hangs off his arm. Yes, fine, I'm makin' assumptions but they're pretty safe assumptions, I think! Ugh. Who's next on your list?"
-Horace Rook
"Rook - Rook, Rook, Rook. Do ya know I've heard more off-handed remarks from young ladies that Rook's stalkin' them? No one ever files a formal charge, but it's still kinda funny. But, yeah, we know that Gyr consorts with Rook, an' until either of them break the law, it's fine by us. Rook's business is legitimate - as far as we can tell - an' I'm not goin' to tell one of my men who he can and can't deal with just cause the man has a questionable reputation"
-L'vi Lyrre
"Are we really doin' this? It's not right to talk about another man's women-business - especially when they're miqo'te women. What do you mean, 'why?!' Cause we both know there's only one reason a man spends time with a miqo'te woman! Alright, fine... Yeah, I've seen the girl with the Sergeant. An' yes, she's a damned pretty thing to look at too! She follows him around like a lost kitten, always at his side - that is when she's not perched on top of his shoulder. I have to admit, it's a sight to see him hoist her up there - an' he probably thinks no one notices, but he's always smilin' when he does it. An' why wouldn't he? I'd be smilin' too if I had my own miqo'te... uh, friend."
-Paul Desmond
"I think he works for the Sergeant on the side, but don't quote me on that. You might want to check with the registrar on the way out though - maybe they're in a free company together. Anyroad, yeah, Paul's hard to miss, an' the boys at The Quicksand know him for two things - his drink, an' his woman. No, not to say he's got a lot of them, just that he likes them. I like women too! Is there a problem here?"
-Xenedra Ambreaus
"Oh, his other miqo'te. Look, I don't think there's anyone in Eorzea who hasn't heard of Xenedra Ambreaus, so I'm sure I don't have to tell you that if he's spent more tha a couple of days with her, she's probably more than just his friend. But I'm not sayin' any more on the topic - this one happens to be sensitive, but if you're determined to learn the nature of their relationship, I suggest that you stop by the Hall of Records and read over Sergeant Gyr's deeds of property within Ul'dah."
