General
Tannlore is a fairly serious individual. He is calculating and critical of most everyone. Only his those who get close enough to be his friends get to see his more compassionate side. He is often mistaken for being arrogant and cynical when he finds flaws in whatever has his attention. He is a veteran of Cartenau and a ranking member of the Twin Adders. He spends his free time devoted to aetherial studies, particularly the Allagan school of summoning. When not in combat or on a mission, one can find him reading and usually alone.

Hair:
- Tannlore has Raven black hair with only a slight tough of grey. He keeps it long in order to hide it though.
Fashion:
- Tannlore cares little for fashion. He finds it a distraction from essential study and training. Robes are his typical garb and anything else outside of that is purely functional.
Personality
Cold, arrogant, aloof, and blunt: These are common terms used to describe Tannlore by those who have a passing acquaintance with him. Those who have known him for a long time, know that the Tannlore of years past was a warm and caring individual. The battle of Cartenau however changed him into who he is now. Tannlore was raised by Midlanders and not his own kind, hence he has tendencies that surprise many who interact with him. To compound matters, he was raised in Sharlayan and migrated to Gridania seven years ago and often his quirks or off-handed comments about Eorzean technology tend to insult more than a few of his fellow Gridanias. Not having been of the wood was a challenge he didn't overcome until the calamity.
Family:
Tannlore was found as an infant in the arms of his dead parents by a pair of Sharlayan scholars traveling through the Drayania mountains (hence his middle name). The couple saved the near dead infant and raised him in Sharlayan. What killed his parents or why the pair were away from their clan was never discovered. With his adoptive parents, Tannlore has two siblings, a brother and sister. His parents are Aetherial Scholars like Tannlore, his siblings did not take to their family trade and instead were fighters. His brother was a gladiator, his sister a pugilist.

History:
Childhood
- Tannlore was found, near dead as a month old infant in his mother's arms. Both of his parents had been killed while traveling through the Drayania mountain range on the way to Sharlayan. What purpose his parents had or what did them in is a mystery still unsolved. He was saved by his adoptive parents and brought to their home in Sharayan. His early years were tough, as he spent much of it sick from aether sickness, he eventually overcame this problem though.
Adolescency
- As Tannlore grew older he demonstrated an affinity in aetheric studies and happily followed in his step-parent's foodsteps. He had a fondness for the branch that covered conjry and focused on it for many years. His siblings were quite kind to him, and it was his brother who taught him how to use a sword. His sister shared her love of gardens with him where he learned to grow all manner of herbs and other alchemical components. When he was old enough he began training fully in the arts of Conjury and Aetherial manipulation.
Adulthood
- A few years after the empire took over Ala Mhigo, Tannlore and his brother decided to join the small group of Sharlayans that left their home to help the rest of Eorzea to the south. He left with the hopes of helping stave off the progress of the empire. His parents were quite against this, but Tannlore insisted on protecting his brother as his conjurer. The two traveled quite a bit together before arriving in the Twelveswood. During his travels he heard word of fellow Sharlayans at work against the empire and the beastmen's primals and made it a goal to seek them out.
Pre-Dalamud Summary
- Upon arriving in Gridania, Tannlore and his brother met up with their fellow Sharlayans and offered their help with surveying the city-state. While his brother was against it, he and Tannlore joined the Twin Adders in an effort to help assimilate into the city and work on gaining the people's trust. During their time in Gridania, the two assisted with stopping the empire and also dealing with the primals Garuda and Ifrit. While these events were progressing, Tannlore further studied conjury in Gridania eventually specializing in White Magic. His brother took up the skills of a Sultansworn Paladin in Ul'dah. Unknown to his brother, Tannlore also began taking up the art of thaumaturgy. He found the study fascinating and almost more appealing than conjury.
- During this time, Tannlore had gained a reputation around Gridania as a gifted conjurer and a warm caring soul. Many would flock to him for lectures or aid and he would often find himself at Stillglade Fane speaking with the seed seers or listening to their lectures himself. His brother had also gained a favorable reputation as a stalwart shield, protecting many an Adder from the spears and arrows of the Ixali.
- Eventually, the pair found themselves on the battlefield of Cartenau with their fellow Shalayans against the empire. It was here that Tannlore's brother was hit head-on by a blast form a magitek walker. Tannlore's magic was insufficient to heal his brother's wounds and as his sibling died, he gave Tannlore his Curtana. Shortly after, the white mage witnessed the emergence of Bahamut and the death of his countryman to save others.
FFXIV: A Realm Reborn
The Five Year Span
- The trauma he endured at Cartenau changed Tannlore. His inability to save his brother and helplessness with what went on around him hardened and cooled the once warm and caring soul. He left Conjury behind, his heart so hard that he could no longer hear the whispers of his White Mage's soul stone. He left Gridania and made for Ul'dah, where he devoted himself to Thaumatury. He studied so fiercely that many of the mages began to whisper of him as being possessed. During a duel with another mage Tannlore killed his opponent coldly, stating that his ignorance of the art was enough reason to end him. It was then that he was asked to leave. During his trip from Ul'dah he was approached by mages of the black, who offered to continue his training. Tannlore accepted and spend two years with them, learning the black arts.
- During the third year, Tannlore caught news of a strange discovery in Mor Dhona near North Silvertear. Tannlore left to investigate and found scholars digging at a new find. He offered his services as a protector and as a fellow scholar. While there, he uncovered a strange green soul stone the likes of which he had never seen before. He decided to kept the stone a secret. After a year with these scholars and unable to discern the nature of the stone, he decided to make for Limsa Lominsa. He hoped that the Arcanist there might be able to shed some light on the nature of this stone. He was not prepared for what awaited him however, as with the arcanists he had found kinsmen in trade. Among them, he felt finally at ease, a feeling he had long forgotten . He decided to make Limsa his home for a while and began studying arcanistry.
- The last two years were spend among the books of the arcanists. Tannlore poured over as many tomes as he could find, learning all he could and applying his Sharlayan training to the effort. He began to study aether manipulation and processes, believing that the key to this stone lie there. As the fifth year drew to a close, he finally began to hear the whispers from the green soul stone. At that point, he left the guild and obnoxious pirates and decided to go back out into the world. He felt that only out there he could come to uncover the true nature of it.
Current
Tannlore returned to Gridania and was reinstated in the ranks of the Twin Adders. It was a great surprise to many not only to see him again (most thought he had died at the battle), but an even greater surprised when the saw the ferocity and ruthlessness Tann used to cut down any enemy of his old home. Because of this, he was placed on some of the more dangerous missions, including battles with the primals once more. After these battles, Tannlore discovered that his green soul stone would react to the lose aether the primals had left about his person. Upon returning from a battle with Titan, he was approached by a fellow scholar who offered some insight into his stone. Together he unlocked its secrets and mastered the primal's energy for his own.
With his new skills in hand, he found himself increasingly against odds he needed help for. He decided to form his own Free Company, seeking comrades he has fought with in previous battles. It was an uncomfortable situation for him at first. He loathed having to deal with people more than he needed to, but here he was leading a group of them. With his new company, he continues his fight against the empire and any other threat that might come to Gridania. All the while he continues his studies into manipulating and controlling the power of the primals.
