Details GENERAL INFORMATION Born in the Azim Steppes, Dunrai was raised by Taban and Enkhjargal of the Dazkar. He has an older brother, Uteko, and a younger sister, Lakhu. Dunrai left the Steppe when he was barely 18 years old, moving south across Yanxia until finally arriving at the Ruby Sea. He stayed there for several years, leaving for Eorzea around 3 and a half years ago. He rarely speaks of his time in the Steppe or why he left. In fact, he tends to be vague about his past before he arrived in Eorzea. He joined the Gladiator’s guild in Ul’dah, then through a chance encounter met Urieth Valroux when the elezen saved his life. Feeling he owed a debt to her, Dunrai chose to follow Urieth and help her, serving first as her guard and assistant, before becoming her close friend and confidant. He has recently left her employment and joined the Aureate Ward, though he and Urieth remain close still. APPEARANCE Standing at 6 fulm and 7 ilms, Dunrai is on the shorter end for an Au Ra. His wide, stocky frame and broad shoulders make up somewhat for the height disadvantage. He weighs about 230~ ponze, with the build of a warrior; thick, corded arms and thighs, with a padded, firm abdomen, and a powerful back. He might not move as gracefully as other fighters, but he can and has taken a beating. There’s several scars all along his body. The most noticeable ones are on his back, jagged marks that seem to have come from some sort of animal, and a long ropey scar across his right thigh from a wound that never healed properly. The rest are scattered, thin lines, faded with time. He has a somewhat angular face, black scales across his forehead, hooked nose, and lining his jawline and cheeks. Thanks to his remarkably poor eyesight, Dunrai has to wear glasses. In battle, he wears specialized goggles so as to not worry about them falling off in the melee. Dunrai has long, full lips, and he rarely smiles. It’s often just a twitch of the lips, there and gone in moments. He keeps his jagged, sideways horns well cleaned and taken care of, as well as his long, barbed and spiked tail. His pale yellow hair is often twined into a series of braids, each of them ending with a small, elegant black bow. When out of their braids, his hair is noticeably longer, going past his shoulder blades and curling at the ends. Aspects That Stand Out: ■ Glasses or Googles. Always one or the other. ■ Braided and bow-decorated hair ■ Thick, stocky frame Personality PERSONALITY Quiet and reserved, Dunrai doesn’t speak unless he feels he has something worth saying, or a question to ask. He’s not rude or shy, but he’s not good at small talk. His Eorzean is fluent and most of the time overly formal. He’s polite, caring, and loyal to a fault. However, he can be very stubborn, and he sometimes over-works himself. . L I K E S ■ Chocobos He adores the Eorzean horse-birds. Perhaps one day he’ll get one for himself. ■ Spicy food One of his favorite things to indulge in. Sweet, sour, or just plain spicy, it’s all welcome. ■ Reading It’s partly why he’s so fluent in Eorzean, having read so many of their books. He also has a small collection of Doman books, though he keeps those hidden. D I S L I K E S ■ Religious Zealots' Specifically of the Twelve. He’s devoted in his faith to Nhaama, and strongly dislikes anyone who tries to force their religion onto him. ■ Garlean Empire Having seen their work and suffered at their hands, there’s no love lost between Dunrai and the Empire. H O B B I E S ■ Reading He’ll read most anything and everything. ■ Drawing. From sketching interesting scenes he comes across in day to day life, to sitting in his room and painting, Dunrai uses this to help him relax. S T R E N G T H S ■ Strong-willed. When focused on a task, it’s difficult to get him to back down. In combat, this usually turns into him fighting well past what his body should be able to handle. W E A K N E S S E S ■ Heart on his Sleeve. Dunrai cares, very deeply. It’s not hard to find out what and who he cares about, and while to him it’s a source of strength, it’s also an obvious weakness. The easiest way to get to him is to go after the people that matter to him. ■ Poor vision Without his glasses or goggles, he has a hard time seeing clearly anything further away than a foot from his face. Large details are easier for him to see, but in fighting he could easily miss the telling shifts of tension in his opponents, and that would cost him dearly. ■ Himself If left idle for too long, he inevitably starts to think. And over-think. It’s why he’s always trying to keep busy, to keep himself distracted and keep a tight grip on his anxiety. M O T I V A T I O N S ■ Wanting Purpose' – For all of his journeys and experiences, Dunrai has never found a place where he felt like he belonged. Or, belonged for very long. Having only vague ideas of what to do, he’s trying to find his purpose in life.
