Shion Bellveil is a Midlander Hyur from the trade city of Radz-at-Han in the Near East.

History

Shion comes from Radz-at-Han on the island of Thavnair, and her mother is Thavnairian, but her father, Evien Bellveil, is actually from the kingdom of Dalmasca. A longtime alchemist, he traveled to Radz-at-Han to truly delve into the art there and met Shion's mother Aelita when he did. Shion grew up playing in the sun-lit streets and learning dancing from her entertainer mother, but her mother came down with a sickness that even the legendary Hannish alchemists could not cure and passed away when Shion was still young. Her father had researched the Philosopher's Stone to try and save Aelita, even performing alchemical experiments on his own daughter, but when his wife finally died he grew cold, distant, and turned toward the drink. Shion's teenage years were spent on the streets of Radz-at-Han and she often felt abandoned and forgotten despite her father technically still being her legal guardian. She would resort to more than one less than savory means to survive.

When the people of Dalmasca attempted to liberate their capital Rabanastre from the Garleans, Evien traveled there to aid in the fight and died in the city's destruction. Deciding there was not much for her left in Radz-at-Han, Shion took up her father's alchemy notes and began researching the Philosopher's Stone herself. With the loss she had endured, Shion seeks immortality to not have to lose herself as well. She believed that the key to discovering the stone may be in Eorzea and so traveled west from Thavnair, where she set up shop in Ul'dah as a librarian, giving her access to a variety of books. Upon arriving in Ul'dah Shion encountered a man in blue who promised to let her cast a variety of wonderful spells, but after being conned out of nearly all her gil all Shion had in her hands was an empty Blue Mage soul crystal. Shion was bailed out by a man from Ala Mhigo named Sigmund Blacke, who in addition to letting her live in his house until she could afford an apartment, also taught her the ways of the Red Mage for any adventures she may undertake while seeking the Stone.

Character

Appearance

Shion is a Near Eastern beauty with midnight black hair kept around shoulder length, faint traces of brown mixed in with the black. Her figure shows a lifetime of dancing, which lends itself to her combat style as a Red Mage. A thin silver charm bracelet hangs on Shion's right wrist, each charm on it a memento of family and friends.

Personality

Shion is a warm, friendly person, but she is lacks confidence in herself and tends to get offended or angry easily even if that wasn't your intent.

Jeanne's shelves at her apartment are filled with books of alchemy, history, and works of fiction, especially the stories of the Zodiac Braves. Over the course of her time in Eorzea she has also come to find a fascination with the Fifth Astral Era. When she has free time and the weather permits it, she is often found reading outdoors.

Combat

Shion tends to be more of a melee fighter than most Red Mages and often weaves her dancing background into her attacks. Shion focuses on empowering her sword first and foremost, and will usually only stand back and cast spells if forced into it. However, one spell Shion relies on quite often even while within melee range is conjuring blades of aether to launch at her opponents. Though Shion has a Blue Mage soul crystal, the monster abilities she has copied see more use in her alchemy experiments than in combat. It's not unheard of for her to fight with them however.
