Appearance & Personality

Biography

Childhood (1555-1569)

When Oliver was born in Ul'dah to his mother, Avigail Amaranth, his father was nowhere to be found, thus he was given his mother's surname. He was born a healthy child with not a single complication, a fact his mother often gloated about for the first few months. Yet, despite her apparent pride in her son, as soon as Oliver was no longer nursing about five months after his birth, she would disappear into her work as a Black Mage long into the night. On occasion, the woman would leave for days, sometimes even weeks at a time, leaving the growing boy to be raised mostly by his grandparents up until he was eight years old, when both his grandfather and grandmother died months apart of natural causes. It was only after this that his mother finally stopped constantly being away. At least, she stopped for a small period of time, but she was a woman of the world. Before long, Oliver was without his mother again, with a permanent babysitter and tutor having been hired by her so that he wouldn't be completely alone.

Despite his absent mother, until he was fourteen, Oliver lived a relatively normal life. He seldom left the house, but there was little need to. The home was stockpiled with all he'd need to live happily and healthily. His tutor, a young Keeper of the Moon known as Kaelai, brought the best out of him. With both her guidance and his own natural capabilities, he proved to be an exceptionally gifted mind. Although he didn't have many friends of his own age, the young boy found himself often smiling whenever Kaelai was around. She had become a mother to him, and he loved her as one. To him, she was the world.

Teenage (1569-1577)

Months after Oliver's fourteenth birthday, his mother abruptly returned. After speaking with Oliver and the Kaelai, she deemed Oliver was old enough to take care of himself and dismissed the Miqo'te, despite Oliver's pleas against the notion. Furious, he cursed at his mother, rejecting her role as his biological parent. In the middle of the night, he took a bag full of all the Gil he could take from Avigail's stockpiles and left to Limsa Lominsa with a caravan. After all, his mother did claim he was old enough to take care of himself, so, in his mind, she probably wouldn't even mind his disappearance. It still seems as if she didn't.

Immediately after arriving in Limsa Lominsa, Oliver traveled to the Arcanists' Guild, a place where Kaelai often talked about in her stories to him. It's unknown to all but Oliver and Thubyrgeim how he managed to convince her to accept his young, teenage self, but she did. Oliver would spend another eight years living amongst the Arcanists' in the guild, often reading all sorts of books of all different shapes and sizes.

Present

Oliver, although still considering himself a member of the guild, has recently departed to not only follow the way of the Scholar, but also carve his own fate in the world.

RUMORS

Some of these rumors are untrue or are greatly exaggerated. Please feel free to add your own rumors under PC!

◢ Common Rumors (Easily overheard)
"See that lad? Ye, the one with the long hair. I 'eard he has a thing for Miqo'te! Bwahaha!"
"Apparently if he bites his bottom lip around you, he thinks you're cute. Or he's nervous. One of the two."
"He goes to taverns to read. Who the 'ell goes to taverns to read!?"
◢ Moderate Rumors (Moderately difficult to overhear)
"I heard he had a crush on the old Foreseer of the Arcanists' Guild until she up and left. Must've crushed the kid.
"Supposedly he used to have an massive stutter. Probably what made him so quiet."
"I'm pretty sure he's lived in that inn room for years. He has to be tired of it by now."
◢ Rare Rumors (Very difficult or rarely overheard)
"Oliver Amaranth's the shy guy's name. Yeah, Oliver Amaranth, the bastard child of one of Ul'dah's great Black Mages."
"He left home after fightin' with his mother. When he got here, he begged Thubyrgeim to let him in the Arcanists' Guild all whilst bawling like a baby. She shoulda turned him down, the bastard."
