Appearance & Personality

Long black hair falling past his neck in the back and bangs that often fall before his eyes, Oliver's appearance alone gives off an impression of a barrier between him and the world. Beneath his relatively thick hair, however, is a man whose face is actually well kept. Free of any blemishes, his face as a whole is clear as they sky on a sunny day. In the shade, his eyes look almost black, yet with enough lighting their true deep blue color is revealed. A bit of hair clusters around his chin, but it's groomed relatively well and barely scratchy. Aside from his facial features, Oliver is a mostly average Midlander. He stands at approximately five-foot, eight-inches. He's relatively thin, but when without clothes, one can see the growing amount of lean muscle he has, as well as the outline of what appears to be abs growing in, touching it would confirm such a thought, and, although he won't boast about it, he is relatively proud of the muscle. As of recently, however, he does seem to have been growing a bit more in muscle mass; nothing quite spectacular, but the change is evident.
When it comes to social situations, Oliver tends to drift away from the center of attention. Commenting on occasion with a bit of playful sarcasm and cracking the occasional bad joke is his role. As long as the attention isn't completely centered on him, he seems relatively confident in himself. Bring him forward, out of his comfort zone and his cheeks will flush red at the slightest of words and seemingly spike his anxiety as he attempts to bend and shift his personality to the whims of those around him. He'll do what he can to entertain the desires of others in a group setting. As far as one-on-ones go, he mostly remains as he would without pressure - jestingly sarcastic and playfully rude.

Biography

Childhood

Born in Ul’dah to his mother Allison, Oliver spent the better first half of his life alone. Leaving her child in the care of her own parents, Allison seemed to prefer the rush of adventuring and drinking in taverns to her own son. By the time he was two, both his grandfather and grandmother passed away, whom his mother swiftly replaced with a nanny that would later become his tutor. Books would become his companions as he grew up; at nine, he’d have read every book in his grand house cover to cover, some of them more than once. It didn’t take long before his tutor, a Keeper of the Moon known as Kaelai, caught onto his passion for reading and brought him books from her own home to occupy the child during his free time. Decades older than him, Kaelai became the motherly figure to the growing boy and treated him as though he were her own child.

Teenage

Months after Oliver's fourteenth birthday, his mother abruptly returned. After speaking with Oliver and the Kaelai, she deemed Oliver was old enough to take care of himself and dismissed the Miqo'te, despite Oliver's pleas against the notion. Furious, he cursed at his mother, rejecting her role as his biological parent. In the middle of the night, he took a bag full of all the Gil he could take from Allison's stockpiles and left to Limsa Lominsa with a caravan. After all, his mother did claim he was old enough to take care of himself, so, in his mind, she probably wouldn't even mind his disappearance. It still seems as if she didn't.
Little happened after this. He purchased a room at the Drowning Wench, where he'd reside until the present day. As a teenager, he'd wander around the city, spending times in the Arcanists' Guild library to further his knowledge whenever he felt such was necessary. He made few friends, though he did appreciate the rambling and theories he'd hear from the Foreseer of the guild, up until she eventually left.

Present

Currently, Oliver is on a journey to find himself. A journey that only grows more and more difficult as the days go by, but he travels with his closest companion, Allimance. For now, his life is at the very least entertaining. Women, drunken nights, getting into fights and nearly dying all put the man through a constant cycle of hilarity and pain.

RUMORS

Some of these rumors are untrue or are greatly exaggerated. Please feel free to add your own rumors under PC!

◢ Common Rumors (Easily overheard)
"That man always seems to have a book on him, don't he?"
"If he bites his lip around you, he either thinks you're cute or he's nervous. One of the two."
"I'm pretty sure he lived in a Drowning Wench inn room for years, up until he finally grew tired of it and left."
◢ Moderate Rumors (Moderately difficult to overhear)
"I heard he had a crush on the old Foreseer of the Arcanists' Guild until she up and left. Must've crushed the kid.
◢ Rare Rumors (Very difficult or rarely overheard)
"Oliver Amaranth's the shy guy's name. Yeah, Oliver Amaranth, the bastard child of one of Ul'dah's Thaumaturges."
◢ PC Rumors (Rumors from the character's of other players)

RELATIONS

Romantic Interest Platonic Love Good Standing Poor Standing
(?) Minox Moks - Nox is a woman whose appearances in Oliver's life can only be described as sporadic. Despite usually being within the same area (up until recently), they hardly interact, and when they do, the nature of their visit tends to be uncertain. Their first meeting was rather neutral, their second meeting ended with Oliver stampeding out of the Wench, whilst subsequent times have been much more friendly. Even if the woman is quite different from him in how she views the world, he can't help but admire her decision to ignore the pain in her life. This admiration, in combination with his physical attraction to her, has left him unsure. Uncertain as to whether he simply wishes to be more like the woman, or if he wants her.
Allimance Twenty - Both a brother and a father figure in Oliver's life, Allimance is the only person whose relationship with Oliver has been completely consistent. What started off as a young Oliver hiring Al to protect him during his teenage years alone in Limsa turned into a bond lasting even after Oliver reached adulthood. Though no longer in his service, the two continue to travel and adventure together. They are rarely without each other's company, a factor that has proven to be a bit of annoyance to Oliver, given the hulking Raen has a habit of embarrassing him in front of women. Regardless, Oliver respects him all the same.
Lalah'to Elakha - Though he isn't quite sure if she actually takes his feelings seriously, Oliver has found himself crushing on this Miqo'te woman incredibly hard. Her enthusiasm and what appears to be a genuine sense of positivity makes her entertaining to be around. At the same time, that same happiness radiating from Lalah makes her a woman he wants be around often, if not always. As of recently, however, he's began to doubt that he truly views her in a romantic manner, and.. in the end, she left him regardless, so it matters little to him anymore.
