History
Very little is known about Eko Tenok. What is known is that he was born on a jungle island, possibly past the edges of the known map. His tribe had not advanced beyond the technology of prehistoric man. They had a very limited spoken language, no written language, no oral legends, no religion, and no laws. They used stone tools and lived life day-by-day, like animals. Eko's people were of Miqo'te descent, hence their feline attributes, but had possibly broken off before the race split into Keepers of the Moon and Seekers of the Sun. Their appearance is not easily placed into either category. On nearly every member of the tribe was braided and beaded hair patterned with red dye, simple red face paint, and utilitarian loincloths.
When Eko was a young boy, he found a settlement abandoned over a century earlier on the island. Being extremely bright, he used the picture books to teach himself to read and write Eorzean, without ever hearing the language spoken, over the course of over a decade. Sometime in his twenties, a lost ship appeared off the coast of Eko's island. The ship's crew discovered Eko and, finding out that this savage could read, kidnapped him in order to bring him to Eorzea and make a fortune from the discovery. After spending moons in a cage like an animal, Eko finally arrived in Limsa Lominsa. Upon arrival the Port Authority arrested the ship's crew and freed Eko. Having nowhere to go, an old Elezen man took mercy on him and adopted him. Over the course of three cycles, the Elezen taught Eko to speak and understand Eorzean. More than this he taught him abstract concepts such as money, law, politics, manners, and religion. Finding that his name was too difficult to pronounce, the Elezen simplified it and broke it up into the words "Eko Tenok". Unfortunately, the old man fell sick and died, leaving Eko alone again.
For the past cycle, Eko has been doing odd jobs such as tracking and hunting, while also furthering his knowledge of the world through science. Lately he has become a member of Misericorde.
Personality
Social: Eko Tenok is sophisticated and usually well-mannered from the outside, though there are times when he will forget his place and revert to more animalistic behavior. Examples of this are eating quickly with his hands, growling at people he doesn't like, or breaking all conversation to follow a strange smell.
Combat: In combat, all bets are off. When brought into a life-or-death struggle, Eko immediately reverts to his savage nature. He will brutally hack, claw, and bite at enemies in a primal rage until they are nothing more than a bloody mess of death on the ground. At times, he has even been known to roar out the challenging cry of his people after vanquishing a foe.
Religion: Eko was not born into a society that has a grasp on religion. To him, it is a silly concept and he has no use for it.
Speech: Eko is extremely well spoken and carries the vocabulary of an educated gentleman.
