Character

General

Regardless to all that he has achieved today, Remis Locke is, and shall always remain, an unfortunate victim of a poverty-stricken upbringing. Once born into the world he experienced nothing but loathing and contempt as a child. At the age of seven, his Mother eventually abandoned him, showing very little regard for her first and only son who was forced to fend for himself on the streets of a highly unsavoury town. There Remis remained, fighting for survival until he was eventually taken in by one Trate Hawthorn, who recognised a great deal of skill and potential within him prior to an unsuccessful pick-pocket attempt.

Being welcomed into Trate’s household, Remis soon became part of a band of brothers. This group consisted of Rook Hakeswell, Filburn Evershed and James Webley-Evans, all of whom shared similar backgrounds to Remis. Trate’s soul ambition was to teach talented youngsters with potential in the ways of ‘Seeking’. Seeking is in every way the work of a rogue, though the man always thought the name he had given the profession sounded much more impressive. To accomplish this, he had to teach his adopted children in the ways of subtly, patience, planning and appearance. Those were the easier parts, the more difficult to teach were the correct pronunciation of words, manners, conning, and Treasure Hunting itself which took years for them to understand given its complex nature. Finding treasure was always risky, life threatening even if it was any treasure worth seeking. Trate taught the boys how to avoid traps and to expect the unexpected. He even taught them how to fight as a well made precaution. Some caught on more quickly than others but in the end Trate had succeeded in what he intended to do in creating his own little army of coin-making con artists.

Soon however Remis abandoned his foster-family at to travel alone, seeking his own independent fortune. He travelled from village to village masquerading as ‘Lord Hudson’, an alias of his who adopted Nobleman garments (no doubt stolen) and tricked people into parting with coin, and parting women of their clothes.

Eventually he settled, befriending such people as Matheric Oakheart, who Remis was reluctantly forced to accept as a mentor. Adaryn and Jairyth, two like-minded thieves, Donhelm and Cymaru who supported him in his time of need, but more importantly Ofelie Whitesage, a farmers daughter who Remis wooed and ran away with, only to be tracked down and put on trial for kidnapping by her Father. Remis however was cleared of the charge and some years later married Ofelie.

Countless adventures ensued over the years, many that have changed Remis for better and for worse. Though still remaining true to his narcissistic and slightly selfish demeanour, he continues his journey with a great deal of experience to draw upon in the future. Having tasted love and loss, bravery and selflessness, Remis searches for a new life in Eorzea, never looking back because he dare not to out of both guilt and shame.

Appearance

Remis as a person would seem quite out of place within a normal setting. The main reason for this would be because of the nobleman's clothing he wears casually, coloured a flamboyant blue. His features however go against his wealthy image for he comes across as looking quite rugged, regardless of his well kept blonde hair and youthful looks. A small scar which is plainly visible despite his best efforts to hide it sits upon his right cheek. His nose is also broken in several places though his deep blue eyes are said to be the most dominant feature in his overall appearance.

He carries only one weapon, a battered looking sword. When attempting to impress he often tries to catch the person's eye with the relic in a hope to provoke curiosity. The sword in question looks quite simple, apart from the strange marking on its hilt which resembles a star.

Behavior

Combat

General

Remis was originally trained with daggers, often duel-wielding them backwards using agility and evasive manoeuvres to his advantage. Prior to a journey with a caravan going south, he was trained to use a sword by Matheric and Donhelm, still maintaining the same technique.

He has also been known to adapt to his surroundings. Using anything he can lay his hands on to his advantage. Be it a washing line to whip, a bucket to throw, this is both careless and slightly bizarre, though has proven useful in his miraculous escapes.

When confronted he often tries to talk his way out of conflict, harbouring no great love for the occasion. He is neither physically powerful or aggressive enough to attack without a good cause, nor would he use his fists unless completely necessary due to fear of ruining his garments.
