Ryuuko was born to the Hoshioi family, a family known for occasionally having members with innate connections to the stars and through them soul-reading abilities. Though born with these abilities herself, Ryuuko's parents wanted her to lead a normal life free from the burden of other people's fortunes or misfortunes. They raised her strictly and with traditional Doman values, hoping that her abilities would fade away over time if not practiced. Eventually they arranged for Ryuuko to be married. Wanting to see if this was really the life she was meant to lead, Ryuuko attempted her first star reading on herself; she found that this was not her fate after all. Knowing her family would never allow her to leave, she ran away one night, following the guidance of the stars.

LIKES ■ Stars -- They're all-knowing, seeing every moment of every mortal life, and guiding lost ones. They're also beautiful. ■ Birds -- In her earlier years, Ryuuko was enraptured with the freedom with which birds fly. Now that she's older, they're not much more than her favorite animals; she loves every kind of bird, even the musky-smelling horsebirds of Eorzea. ■ Manners -- A traditional upbringing has left her with a lot of value placed in manners, though she doesn't seem to know that what constitutes "good manners" varies depending on where she is. To that end, she is completely ignorant to Eorzean manners and sometimes thinks people are simply being rude. ■ Tarot -- A glimpse into the soul, as she would call it.

DISLIKES ■ Rain -- It's unknown why she dislikes it exactly. Perhaps because when the weather is bad, she can't see the stars? ■ Garleans -- Until Doma was razed, she was fairly ignorant to the Garlean Empire. Now, though, it's probably one of the only things she actively hates. ■ Rudeness & Inconsideration -- It's not that hard to just be a good, nice, respectful person. She doesn't understand when someone isn't.

QUIRKS & SKILLS ■ Demure -- All in all, she's very much a yamato nadeshiko. ■ Odd Speech Patterns -- Doman is her first language, and for a long while, was the only language she knew. Her command of the Eorzean tongue is not perfect by far; her speech is somewhat stilted and in short sentences with odd grammar, and there's a lot she needs defined or explained to her. She's also prone to using Doman when she doesn't know an equivalent word in Eorzean, and for honorifics. ■ Skilled Fortuneteller -- Her ability to read the stars and the tarot is almost eerie. Despite this, she insists that there are many paths in life, and what she sees is only one of them.

A P P E A R A N C E

■ Body: Svelte, but not too bony; she could almost be considered scrawny. Though not blessed with many curves, she is a pear shape, with a small upper body that cascades into a wide pelvis over slender legs. Her tail is long and thicker at the base, coming to a point at the tip. ■ Skin: Fair and soft, along the lines of traditional Doman ideas of beauty. She has a good complexion, with seemingly no visible blemishes or scars. Her scales are the normal color for a Raen, and she doesn't do anything special with them or care for them in any particular way. ■ Hair: Silky, the color of the moon. Always in a hime cut, stretching to the middle of her back, though she may sometimes put it into a bun of sorts. Her hair is very well cared-for and rarely has flyaways; it's easy to see that she takes great pride in it. ■ Eyes: Monolid almond shapes, and she claims they're the color of the stars—pale yellow. Bright and full of wonder, though at times maybe a little eerie. Depends on who you ask.

■ Clothes: Light blues, whites, and silvers, leaning towards fashionable more so than practical sometimes. She tends to wear clothing that is well-made and looks rather expensive, and varies between long skirts and shorts depending on the situation. She's sometimes found in a blue and white yukata with birds in its patterns, or a deep blue kimono with intricate florals. ■ Jewelry: She only seems to have two pieces, a necklace and a pair of earrings. The necklace is made of small round stones strung together; the earrings are simple semiprecious gems—topaz maybe—that dangle from her horns near her face. ■ Voice: High-pitched, soft, airy. A delicate voice with a thick Doman accent.
