Character

General

When one imagines the perfect individual to inhabit the gilded walls of Ul’dah, one’s perceived image would not stray too far from Kaju Ijin. A talented thaumaturgist and wealthy noble, Kaju makes a distinct impression with his striking silver hair and equally silver tongue. Though he is known in the upper circles of the Thanalan capital, Kaju is particularly scantly when it comes to the details of his private life, and gracefully avoids all attempts at inquiry. This makes him something of an enigma, which earns him equal amounts of admiration and scathing frustration.

His interests include ancient history, Ishgardian tea, the acquisition of power and money, and the advantages in life over his peers that the latter two afford him.

Appearance

At six and a half feet tall, Kaju is on the short side for an Elezen male. Despite this, and his lithe form, Kaju still strikes an imposing figure thanks to his refined and rigid posture. His features are sharp and defined, as though he was intentionally carved with the utmost perfection. He has icy blue eyes and silvery hair, which he keeps let down in gentle waves to frame his face — which seems permanently rested in a bored expression.

He carries himself with the extreme grace and poise befitting one of his noble station. One of Kaju’s personal philosophies is that one owes it to the world to always look one’s best. To this end, Kaju ensures he is always freshly bathed and always dresses himself in the finest silks and jewelled accessories. A dab of peach blossom perfume on his pulse points is rarely gone without.

He has several outfits on hand for any situation, should the unthinkable happen and his couture be blemished (by bar fight or voidsent). Kaju prefers to wear black and gold, but has been known to favour silver and even white on occasion. Staples in his wardrobe include billowing robes, form-fitting pants and thighboots. He also is never seen without a fine lilac colour applied to his eyes and lips.

Personality

Kaju’s personality can be described in but one word: infuriating. He views the entire world as a stage upon which every person in it is playing a role in a grand play for his own personal amusement. As such, he tends to entertain most interactions with a bemused detachment. He has little interest in people unless they can serve some use to him. In very rare occurrences, when dealing with equally rare individuals, his interest can take a firmer hold. Otherwise, Kaju tends to remain in a state of perpetual disinterest.

When he speaks, it is formally, politely, and short. He knows what to say and when it say it to get the most out of people. If you hold no benefit to him, or he simply finds your presence annoying to him, you may never know it. Rather than outright state his disinterest, Kaju will passive aggressively pay a backwards compliment that someone may mistake as genuine. He rarely answers any question directly, preferring to speak in riddles, and he often keeps quiet in group scenarios, preferring to observe — unless the collective intelligence in the room is blatantly lacking.

Recent events have bound Kaju to several individuals whom he never seems to go long without seeing. Though his legitimate interest in them varies person-to-person, Kaju takes great pleasure in their frustration with him. He will almost intentionally play up his own personality to that end, just for the satisfaction of getting under their skin.

In spite of his ice-like personality, Kaju is possessed of incredible patience. As both an avid historian and researcher, as well as a talented alchemist and goldsmith, this trait serves him very well. He is also uncharacteristically warm and caring when dealing with children, almost to the point of it being jarring.

He remains very knowledgable in his fields of interest, and admittedly does enjoy showcasing his wisdom and intelligence from time to time.
