Appearance
A very small, thin Raen girl, Ren stands at a mere 4 fulms, 6 ilms. Quite easily her most noticeable feature however, are her milky white eyes. Due to her past injuries, she has lost all sight in her eyes, and they are drained of the color they once had and instead have a blank, almost eerie sheen to them. Aside from this, there is nothing particularly noteworthy about her, not much that really stands out. Her skin is softly-tanned, as many other Domans' are, her hair deep, jet black, long and unruly. Though her eyes do not say much, often maintaining a dead stare, the rest of her face and body language tend to speak for Ren more than her own words do.
History
Ren Kaida's childhood was spent with her parents, living in their relatively small village on the coastal edge of Doma. Growing up, she was a quiet young girl. Very bright and clever for her age, but she preferred never to speak or take action, wishing instead for others to speak up or do the decision-making. Ren was often seen as kind of odd to the other children, as she would never play or have fun with them. Rather than spend her free time having pretend fights, she enjoyed just quietly sightseeing. Ren enjoyed the calm and serene feeling as she'd stare out across a sunset, or the sound of nature around her as she would just sit and listen. One other thing she'd come to enjoy as she grew up however, was reading.
When she had hardly even seen of seven winters, she began to learn literacy from a young woman named Kage Megami. Kage taught Ren to read and write, and inspired the girl's love for books and stories. Kage's eventual departure disappointed her, as she'd come to see the woman as a very close friend, but the elder Raen's teachings and influence stuck with her.
As the threat of Garlemald pushed closer and closer towards her edge of Doma, Ren's family decided they needed to follow the choice of others and emigrate to Eorzea. Next chance they had, they boarded a ship and set sail for the far lands. Unfortunately, the ships that had been following them just within sight every day of the trip had not been fellow refugees as they'd initially believed. Almost immediately upon their landing, the group was attacked by Garleans. The crimson-clad soldiers were almost completely unopposed, and they killed Doman after Doman. All Ren could do was watch in horror, and dread the few moments left until the weapons turned to herself and her family. Finally, that time came, and she was completely helpless to stop it. The last thing she saw was her parents pierced on the ends of blades before something hard hit her temple, and everything went black.
Ren awoke screaming and crying. She could see nothing, even though she was certain her eyes were opened. A voice began to call to her in her native language, trying to comfort her and tell her everything was alright. The more and more the voice spoke to her however, the less certain she became that it was alright. With every moment, her heart sank more and more. They explained Ren's situation to her, that the Eorzean group who was supposed to meet the Domans upon their arrival and help associate them into their new homes instead found the foreigners slaughtered. Ren had been bleeding heavily from the head, but was the only survivor they found. However, all of these events had happened over three years ago, and she had been comatose ever since. By that point the poor Raen girl had doubtless figured it out for herself, but the voice informed her that as well as leaving her in a bed-ridden state for those few years, the blow to her head had caused permanent damage to her vision, leaving her blind.
She was told that she was lucky to be alive, but Ren certainly did not feel that way. With the recent flow of Othardian refugees, the organization that had hospitalized her during her lethargy was stretched thin for help and staff. They did however find the girl a caretaker, and the two could hardly believe it when they first met. The caretaker was Kage Megami, her teacher and friend from nearly a decade before. Ren now stays under her wing, learning to live without her sight, and slowly learning to speak Common.
Personality
Ren is a very quiet, wordless young girl. She will rarely ever speak if not spoken to, and even then will likely not respond unless needed. She hates being the center of attention, and is perfectly happy being completely unnoticed by others. Her heart however, is pure, and she'd never wish hurt upon someone- much less act upon those desires. No matter what, Ren is always working to put others before herself as much as she can, and strives to make others happy.
