Y'vado reached the city and was immediately overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the city. He was dirty and smelly and hungry but people paid him little mind as they went about their business. He found a place to huddle and he sat pulling his knees up to his chest, rocking back and forth trying to get rid of the pain in his belly. Having lost the bread he took earlier when he was captured, he needed to find something to eat. Nearby he could see loaves of bread sitting on a counter at a stall. Y'vado pushed his way through the crowd until he got to the stall, he pulled his hood up, reached up and grabbed a loaf of bread. It was warm to the touch and smelled amazing. He took the loaf of bread and walked off to find somewhere quieter to eat it. Y'vado found a small, shadowy corner where he sat and started to devour the bread. It wasn't long before he started eating that he heard shouting. His small Miqo'te ears pricked up and he could hear footsteps, ''a lot'' of footsteps heading in his direction. Footsteps and shouting. Not sure what it was, he sat huddled and hid the bread in his coat. Before long several armored guards and one cranky shopkeeper found him. At the shopkeeper's insistence that this child had stolen his bread, one of the guards picked Y'vado up by the wrist and held him off the ground. Y'vado flailed and fought, trying to scratch and kick the guard but his tiny frame and limbs had no chance. The bread fell out of his coat and his guilt was evident to all present.

A pool of blood began to form on the ground and Y'vado could see an elderly Midlander man, dressed in white robes, adorned with jewellery, holding a drawn dagger. He quickly cleaned the dagger and put it away. The man then approached Y'vado, who cowered away from him, and he offered him his hand to take. The man assured the child that he would not harm him and that he had somewhere for him to stay. Y'vado took the man's hand, out of pure ignorance, and followed him.

The man introduced himself to Y'vado as Osmund Naylor, a thief master in the city of Ul'dah. He took Y'vado to his home which was well decorated and furnished. Modest, but not huge. He offered Y'vado a bath, something to eat and some new clothes. Osmund pointed out that even though Y'vado was small, he could still work by being unseen. After he finished eating Y'vado was taken away by Osmund's guards to another building. Several children of all races lived there, all in bunks. Most of them dirty looking. The guards told Y'vado he needed to sleep there for the night and someone would collect him in the morning. The children didn't speak to Y'vado and instead regarded him with suspicion. They were very obvious in their protectiveness over their meagre belongings.

History

Early Life

Y'vado was born into the Y tribe in the Sagolii Desert. For the most part, like many Sunseeker tribes, they kept to themselves and had little contact with the outside world.

Y'vado was the fourth born child to Y'voro and Y'zeledi and the first born male into the family. When Y'vado was born he was small in comparison to the birth weights of his sisters. His father, being the Nunh of the tribe, had great expectations for his son and was not overly concerned at the size of the child as he had already sired three strong, healthy girls and was sure that his son would also be the same. However, as Y'vado grew, he remained small in size. At the age of two he was expected to fetch water for the village. A simple task that was carried out by many small children using much smaller buckets, however Y'vado could not even manage to carry a full bucket of water, he could only carry half. As he continued to grow older, he did not seem to grow much bigger and his father began to take note. Y'vado continually failed to complete chores in a timely or efficient manner and did not have the strength to hold many weapons making him a failure at combat, the times he could actually manage to hold a weapon long enough to participate, while his sisters grew stronger and bigger than Y'vado and excelled at hunting and combat. This angered Y'voro who lost all compassion for the child and began to tell him that he was the 'prize failure of the Y tribe.' Y'voro also became physically abusive taking the opportunity to beat Y'vado in private, so as not to attract the attention or wrath of his mother. This caused Y'vado to became withdrawn and anxious. When his mother would mention Y'vado's nature to his father it was often brushed aside with his father creating excuses as to why Y'vado was upset or sad.

Y'vado's mood spiralled down and one night as he lay in bed, looking at the stars, tears streaming down his face, his little five year old mind decided it was no longer safe for him at home and it was best for him to leave. As quietly as he could, he gathered a hooded cloak and some bread and left the village heading out into the Sagolii Desert, alone. Due to his extreme tiredness and his weak constitution, he didn't make it very far before he passed out in the sand dunes. He next awoke on the wooden floorboards of a bumpy carriage. The carriage he was in was lined with bars and there were several other Miqo'te in the carriage as well. He could overhear a Lalafell and a Roegadyn talking about how they were going to make a fortune in Ul'dah from all of the slaves they had captured for auction. However, before the carriage could complete it's journey, several Amalj'aa ambushed the carriage which tipped over, splintering part of the ceiling, creating a hole large enough for Y'vado to squeeze through. When he was free of the carriage, he took a moment to take in his surroundings and could see in the distance the city of Ul'dah. Using the chaos as cover, he took off running towards the city.
