In his heart of hearts he lacked any form of emotional attachment to his step-father, knowing he most definitely was not the offspring of a dunesfolk, and as he watched his own scales and horns develop with every passing year, so too did his pride and yearning for his origins. At age 11, Shaar hit his rebellious phase, becoming far more vocal about his desire to see his former home. BASIC INFO

"A woman is a woman. I am not sure what they would be if you begged beauty and good wit and obedience of all of them - only your mother is that perfect, and you would not ask that even of your mother."

HISTORY

Shaar's first memory is one of counting the rafters of a yurt's interior with his head on his mother's lap, wrapped up in her voice as she sang tales while sewing quilts. In his early childhood, this was the only clear detail he could recall of the Azim Steppe, for no sooner than he turned three were he and his mother dashed off into the unfamiliar trader nation of Thavnair, where he would spend the next 11 years of his life thriving and suffering. Born into the Jhungid tribe of the Azim, Shaar was an only child, much beloved by his mother and father. But shortly after his third birthday, his father perished to a crushed lung while being caught up in a stampede of the tribe's horses. Shaar would never come to learn that the 'unfortunate incident' was in fact orchestrated by an old Thavnairian merchant-trader, a guest to the tribe at the time, who had fallen deeply in love with his mother and had plotted and succeeded, through much effort indeed, in eventually acquiring her hand in marriage.

In Thavnair, there was not a single day in the household of his step-father that the boy did not live like a prince. Subject to education early, Shaar became well-versed in history, commerce, and mathematics, and was trained to fight with a shamshir. Despite standing out due to the unique racial features of the au ri, Shaar's education made him socially well-equipped and confident, and he was well-liked by children of his age for his gutsy nature. His mother, on the other hand, lived like a bird in a gilded cage. Indeed, both son and mother were adored by the head of the household who, beyond the facade of a good and wealthy family man at home, led the life of fraud and bloodshed that brought him to his eventual assassination.

Despite his pampered lifestyle, young Shaar was no stranger to the malcontent that came of not fitting in with those around him. Throughout several occasions were some of his closest friends lost over petty quarrels, and the few who remained close wisely refrained from touching his horns or making thoughtless remarks about his inherited wealth. His newfound volatile nature pacified only by his mother's gentle scoldings and the empty promises of his step-father to visit the Azim Steppe, the idyllic Thavnairian life would last for another 4 years until his step-father's sudden death.
