H I S T O R Y E M P I R E Nobility always houses some eccentricity, wealth and power giving ways for the well-to-do to indulge in things the common man could not or would not. This is even true beyond Garlemald's iron curtains, high ranking officials military or civilian rarely fail to exploit their power for their own personal pleasures. This was the circumstance that Sera was born in, the bastard child of some unknown Garlean official and his harem of exotic aan 'workers'. More over the children were seperated from their mothers and given to whatever fate ended them. Serani, by unfortunate luck, had a strange talent for exploiting the eccentricities of those of high-office. She won't let his name on her lips yet a wealthy patron did save her from life in the gutter. She was adopted and given citizenship by false identity as the child of his own mistress. All as payment for her service, she was educated and raised adjacent to men of moderate standing. When she outgrew his tastes Sera was free to pursue her education and career with her scorned and solitary position. Despite prejudice for her circumstance, her military career was escalated quickly by her raw talent for the material aspect of the world. Technology both mundane and magical was something she could grasp with an almost innate understanding. She rose within the lower architectus ranks and took the name Serani kir-Reynsholt as a mark of her skills, yet the circumstance of her life still kept her from rising into a position of command. Returned to the provinces with her deployment, she recognized not where in the world she was. Never would she come to know a homeland other than the false childhood in Ilsebard. More vagueries follow in her accounts of her career after deployment. Whether she truly doesn't know or if she merely feigns loss of memories, Serani was wounded and left for dead in 'barbarian' territory. This fate is the only thing of her self-made story that would have physical evidence and actual documentation. By whatever machinations had her abandoned she had ended up far outside imperial borders and surviving on her instinctual understanding of the physical world. She was for a time a hermit in the hills hunting with her rifle until munitions ran out and then with knives, spears, and whatever rudimentary weapons she could fashion. When the Eorzean adventurers found her, dispatched by a village's rumor of some beast poaching their lands, she was far gone from the imperial engineer she once was. Wounds were cauterized with the power of her weapons, damaged knee braced with a rudimentary construct fashioned from her armor, and her body half-starved from the isolation. D R A G O N S F I R E It was in Aldenard's harsh northern climes that the first account of Serani's coming to Eorzea emerged, sometime shortly after the official ending of the Dragonsong War. Mere rumor in those first days spread around the minor villages of Dravania and Coerthas of a wyrmling that hunted with a piercing, explosive spit of its dragonfire, always at night and always from afar. The keen, of course, identified the hallmark thunder of a rifled firearm and knew the shape was clearly humanoid. This was the time of Serani's isolation, not the beginning but a time she was a fugitive from both homeland and the land she now walked. She'd come even before the reformation of Ishgard aboard a reconnaissance shuttle crashed and lost on Abalathia's Spine, a body and mind broken but not gone. It was the raw instinct to survive that attracted a kindred spirit in the form of the iron dragon, Sorventhe. Even now to those who know it, Sera reeks of a certain Dravanian 'taint'. The iron dragon was the first creature to welcome Serani to the realm, giving of itself what it could to sustain her as she healed. For that moment she was well fed and kept in the company of wyrmlings, all until the Nidhogg called upon its brood. Neither would answer, but Sorventhe and Serani were left only in each other's company. They watched the war as detached from it as they could until one hunt stretching into Coerthas had her companion struck down by an Ishgardian dragoon. The dread of loss dredged up those memories that her flight from Garlemald suppressed. She refused to accept such an immediately sour turn to her new life; taking in Sorventhe's ichor and eyes. One eye to carry on his memory and one to carry on his vengeance, the latter becoming the source of power hidden within her gauntlet. She waged her own personal war against Ishgard as a heretic called the Wolfwyrm, slaying knights and inquisitors that overstayed their welcome in her territory. Once against lost in the chaos of conflict until a contract was put out for her capture to local adventurers. They succeeded without incident and she was carried away in shackles, held in an inquisitorial cell for the final days. Through the stirring of Sorventhe's eye she'd know when the Nidhogg fell upon Ishgard's gates for its final battle; the eye was informing her that now was her chance to run, her chance to survive. The final moments of the Dragonsong War allowed her flight from Ishgard. She made her way back to the crash site that brought her to Aldenard and scoured the wreckage for everything she could use on the journey to come. W A Y W A R D _ S U N "Fool me once, shame on you. A P P E A R A N C E Though quite obviously taking after her mother as a Miqo'te, sporting a pair of cat-like ears and tail, her other half manifests quite clearly in physique. She is taller and stockier in frame than most catfolk with a height around 5'11". Her musculature is also much more pronounced and her eyes for the most part have rounded pupils with odd-colored irises; ocean green with flecks of silver and gold. Her canine teeth are more pronounced than a Hyur's but not large enough to be of non-aesthetic use like a true Miqo'te might have. Her hair was peremenantly bleached nearly white some time ago with few golden strands remaining, yet she is fond of covering up the milk-cream color of her hair with vibrant dyes. The color and style of her hair thus greatly varies dictated by her moods. Her body has accrued a number of scars over her years, with one particular scar near her neck decorated with tattoos that run from there down her left arm making up a full sleeve. A large patch of skin from her left eye down her neck marks where once was a much more grievous burn scar. Apart from the tattoo bleeding from these scars and across her shoulders, other modifications have been made to accessorize her body. Accenting the darker freckles across her cheeks there is a silver stud on the left of her nose, as well as a stud in her right brow. Three tight rings adorn her left ear; the extent of her visible piercings. In terms of garment she tends towards loose garbs of faded colors, largely unrevealing and of the most modern materials she can afford. Accompanying whatever modest clothing she wears is an armored brace on her right knee; the brace is clearly fabricated with Garlean metallurgy techniques and the inside is buffered with black wool. The brace can be connected to a body harness for more security; the over-clothing variant of which she can hang tools or weapons.
W O R K S H O P Every adventurer and hero has their own iconic equipment, yet as self-made as Sera is and with her engineering prowess she relies little on relics or stories blades and more on her own creativity to fight. Among her physical equipment she has fashioned weapons, armor, and accessories for herself oft entirely by herself or by combining other objects she's obtained.
D O J O Sera's approach to combat is made under a loose doctrine of self-learning, internal power, and mechanical adaptation. While not outright combining the weapon classes her martial school considers the use of blades, firearms, and 'unarmed' as discipline weapons. It also puts much emphasis on individuality and the creation or alteration of techniques to be optimized to the practitioner's body or equipment. Standardization of equipment is also equally loose and emphasizes optimizing the soldier's equipment to augment their prowess, with notes on the emotional investment involved with personalizing every aspect of their techniques helping to amplify aetheric outputs. School of the Blade In swordplay her basic manual records five essential stances which generally use a two handed grip:
Two secondary stances and techniques are also recorded:
Gunner's Doctrine Most of all Sera's combat doctrine puts emphasis on survival, stating quite unromantically that if an enemy can be taken out from a range before they can close into close quarters that any such chance should be taken. It is here also that Sera lays out her philosophy when it comes to technology: "Augment".
