Theodorik Surefoot is a Highlander Hyur born in once great Ala Mhigo. Only 3 years after his birth, the Garlean invasion forced his family's flight from the city-state. While his father presumably died in the defense of their home, his mother was fortunate enough to escape with their child. She wandered Eorzea for several years until finally ending up in Limsa Lominsa where she found stable work and was able to raise her young son.

Background
Raised in the city-state of Limsa Lominsa, Theodorik was ever the free spirit. While his mother, Kasimira Everforge, was busy toiling away at the forges in the Aft-Castle, Theodorik was free to wander the alleys and docks of the bustling port city. He would revel in the multitude of sights, smells and sounds all around him. His eyes, all the while, ever wandered to the horizon and wondered what was beyond. However, this time of leisure would not last. As soon as he was old enough to work around a forge his world became nothing more than glowing embers and ringing hammers.
Kasimira, ever practical, took on her son as an apprentice and taught him everything she knew about shaping metals with fire and hammer. Theodorik learned piecemeal about his heritage and his father, Rognvald Stormspear, between each ringing stike as his mother worked on her latest commission. Though Kasimira's intentions for keeping her son by her side weren't all rooted in practicality. As she lost her beloved husband, she feared losing her son as well. Despite Theodorik never truly knowing his father, Rognvald's adventurous spirit was strong in the boy. It was that adventurous spirit Kasimira feared would lead to her son's early grave.
As the years went by, the boy slowly turned into a young-man. His skill grew such that he was getting his own commissions for arms and armor. Soon, Kasimira realized, she would run out of excuses to keep her son within arm's reach. At the age of 16, Theodorik's chance to see the world outside of Limsa Lominsa came in the form of a man from the Miners' Guild. As the guild's ore shipments arrived for the Lominsan smiths, Theodorik would be the first one there, often arriving hours before any others! Aside from the opportunity to hear stories of the world outside he had a knack for picking some of the best ore. This was a talent that did not go unnoticed. It wasn't long till a summons from the Miners' guild arrived and Theodorik leapt at the opportunity. Despite his mother's protests, he had decided and nothing would change his mind. Realizing her pleas were falling on deaf ears, Kasimira had no choice but to let her son go. So, with a heavy heart, she gave him her blessings.
Taking the first ship out of Limsa Lominsa, it wasn't long before a wide-eyed Theodorik beheld the impressive gates of Ul'dah.
