To say that this character is a "work in progress" would be a massive understatement. I've yet to really be able to fully develop Garre'to as a character as of yet but fully intend on doing so in the immediate future. What you see on this page will be altered or scrapped entirely as I get more into the character.

Garre'to was an enigma when he had first arrived at the city of Ul'dah for direct training -- an upstart with dreams and aspirations to become the greatest fighter in the realm of Eorzea. Only a year into his training did he finally realize that not all was going well for the young Miqo'te as he had discovered that the Gladiator's life was grueling and challenging; challenges of which he were not prepared to undertake. Though he maintained an upbeat attitude and kept his lofty goals in full view, his compatriots of the Gladiators' Guild saw nothing more in him than a young lad taking on more than he could handle. Each job that he had undertaken had always gone through unnecessary tribulation simply through his carelessness and his keen eye for trouble.

Though he was no shortage of headaches for the rest of the guild, he pressed on to see his dreams come to fruition.

Early Life

Garre'to (Or, as he prefers to be called, Garret) was the second-born son of a family of five in the territory of Limsa Lominsa. His mother, the matriarch of the family, remained a close and watchful guardian over her children while his father, intent on bringing money into the family, took the adventuring call. Garret grew up pining for a similar life to his father, growing increasingly weary of the home life. Unfortunately, when he was barely into his adolescence it was discovered that his father had become involved in rather unsavory types -- who saw fit to come down on his entire family for some unexplained "revenge." His mother, being a capable fighter herself, urged her children to escape as far away as they could but only Garre'to managed to do so. He hadn't heard from anyone from his family ever since that day, having since left for Ul'dah.

Garre'to practically lived off of the streets for years, but during this time had developed a capability for self-defense. Around the time he came of-age he was discovered by a wandering gladiator and was recommended to join the guild. From there he had trained formally in sword usage and quickly became a capable fighter.

♦ Appearance

The relatively young Miqo'te stands at an average height for his race, maintaining a collected composure and an equally composed demeanor. He is light-skinned even as a Moonkeeper. His jet-black hair is coated with white highlights along his bangs. One thing to know about Garre'to is that he does not wear elaborate armor for appearance, alone. Despite how extravagant his equipment may seem, they are battle-worn and weathered to convey such -- sword notches, indents, and other battle scars adorn his equipment. With it he'd faced off against Amal'jaa and roaming bands of marauders. Aside from his equipment, however, he is usually dressed in simple clothing.

♦ Behaviour

Open and charismatic even amongst strangers. Garre'to considers himself a bit of a socialite. He eagerly takes to the Quicksand most nights when he has no business with the Gladiators Guild to keep him occupied. When partaking in a few drinks at the tavern, he can oftentimes be heard exaggerating a host of stories -- whether they be true or not -- to anyone willing to listen.

Beyond this, Garre'to is usually a calm and collected individual whose focus on his craft remains steadfast.

Combat

Garre'to favors the use of a sword over anything else -- and his combat style revolves around the marriage of a sword and shield. The nickname given to him, Silver Streak, contrasts against this discipline as it represents the nimbleness and dexterity Garre'to is able to display when in the midst of battle. Quick on his feet even when garbed in heavy armor, he will usually use only one sword when taking part in a casual duel. Even so, he will often fight with just the sword against single enemies and when he has no reason to worry about comrades around him. In a group setting he will always be with a shield as he has been found more than capable to intimidate his foes to direct their attention onto him.

Many question his insistence in using fast movement and quick reflexes when encumbered by heavy armor -- however, this is a common misconception. His armor is adorned in lightweight and tempered steel plating, providing the illusion of encumbrance while allowing Garre'to to maneuver and breathe easily as if he were wearing leather armor.

The basic idea here is playing along the fact that Miqo'te generally do not favor heavy armor -- however, the GLD (Gladiator) class and PLD (Paladin) job uses it almost-exclusively in order to be effective at their respective roles. What I'm trying to go for here is the idea that Garret's armor protects him as well as standard heavy armor, but is light enough to allow him to move.

The Name

The name "Garret" can be heard in passing in every corner of Ul'dah and its territories, though no mention of Garre'to's actual name is ever told. To help with this, Garre'to usually refers to himself as Garret, but will introduce himself with both names.

The Gear

Garre'to's white armor is unmistakable and easy to recognize by anyone familiar with Garret's reputation.

The Fighting Style

When in passing across the fields of Thanalan -- and anywhere else in Eorzea -- Garre'to's combat prowess has few equals. A Miqo'te fighting in armor and being able to move as though unencumbered can be easy to recognize -- however, it is not often that he will fight as quickly as his reputation bids him to.
