Appearance & Personality
Sometimes Ori looks a little too delicate to wear the armor or wield the weapons that she carries. Yet her physique is well toned from hours of training, and her short blonde hair drifts down to often partially conceal one pristine blue eye. She bears a healthy tan, the sign of one who spends a great deal of her time outdoors. Her features are fair, yet she often wears a neutral expression. Her gaze feels sullen and haunted. It isn't difficult to tell that this is someone still coping with the sins of her past.
While she might not be the friendliest or the most sociable of people, she has her social graces. She is never rude to people who do not deserve it; most of the times she is professional and polite. Ori is often soft spoken, a trait that some people misconstrue as shyness.
Biography
Orianna was first mate aboard a ship called the Crimson Cutter. During a raid on a merchant vessel, Ori crossed blades with a paladin who had booked passage aboard the ship. He was captured, beaten and locked in the brig and Ori was congratulated for her part in his apprehension. She wasn't sure why, but she felt guilty. The man had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
She visited him occasionally, and he kept trying to convince her to see that what she and her fellow band of pirates were doing was wrong. Soon, the Captain decided the paladin had outlived his usefulness and ordered him executed. The Captain had seen how Ori had been visiting the paladin and how her visits had been affecting her, so he ordered her to carry out the sentence. She decided she couldn't carry out that order, and refused. The captain gave her several chances to obey. Finally, when she wouldn't do it, he raised his blade against her. She would be made an example.
The paladin flung himself into the path of the blade, taking the attack that was meant for her. Ori was stunned by his sacrifice, but managed to use the man's last dying action to make a daring escape over the side of the ship. She plunged into the ocean, and the captain and crew assumed she died in a watery grave. Ori eventually washed up on the shore near a village, and a family of peaceful fishermen took her in. Still coming to grips what had happened, despite the family's kindness, she shut them out and remained emotionally distant. One day, brigands came to raid the village. At first Ori stood by and did nothing. But then the brigands threatened the family that took her in, and she was finally spurred into action. She drew the blade that had washed up with her, and dispatched the raiders.
The village was grateful for her aid and offered her a home, to stay with them. At first she accepted and considered settling down into a more peaceful life. But some of the brigands survived, and they had friends. More came to the village and attacked. Ori realized that as long as she was there, the villagers wouldn't be safe. She left during the night and set out on her own, to wander and find her place in the world.
Developments
- ● While on the road, Ori encountered a group of bandits accosting and robbing a merchant caravan. Though outnumbered, she could not stand idly by. She gave them a chance to surrender and, when they did not, she attacked. Although skilled with the blade, numbers were weighed heavily against her. But as the bandits were beginning to get the upper hand, a young warrior by the name of Shin Lightbringer leapt into the fray. His efforts renewed her own vigor, and the two fought side by side. Unfortunately, before the final bandit fell, Shin was grievously wounded. Strapping the young man to her chocobo, Ori took him somewhere safe and nursed him back to health.
