Basic Info

Born into a loving family of the nobles of the Haukke Manor, Zen Snowflame grew up in relative luxury around Gridania. His relationship with his parents has fostered his love and care for his fellow man in Eorzea. The first major memory Zen has from his childhood is of his parents taking him to Ul'dah on a summer trip. They were busy helping the poor around Ul'dah - as was their strong desire to help - whilst Zen was left to his own devices. It was here in Ul'dah, a man had found him wandering the streets and offered him a drink of wine. This set off Zen's passion for fine wines and, although his parents were angry at his early-alcoholism and tried to steer him clear, he has grown up to be a fine connoisseur of Ul'dahn wines. Sadly however, rumours have circulated that he is in fact a drunkard and uses his title Corkmaster of his local wine club to masquerade as such.

As Zen grew up around the Manor, he found himself increasingly interested in the hand-maidens that waited after his mother. In a moment of naivety, Zen asked his mother if one of the hand-maidens would like to go on a date with him; however, his mother denied this request, saying Zen should not fraternise with the hired help. Angry at his mother's rebuttal, he went behind her back and took the hand-maiden on a date nonetheless. This resulted in Zen's growing lustfullness which soon came to overtake a large portion of his life. Around the same time, Zen had been doing well in his struggle with alcohol addiction, however upon meeting a fair commander in the Limsa Lominsan navy, she had convinced him to take up the bottle once again. As it turned out, this commander would later be promoted to admiral - it was none other than Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn. Zen was only 13 year olds at the time.

Lady Adamandine is Zen Snowflame's mother. However, after learning of the scandal of Cellargate - wherein his mother drunk his 4.2 million gil worth bottle of rare Sil'dih chardonnay - he changed his name in shame and decided to leave the house despite missing his mother very much. In hindsight, he wishes he could forgive his mother and hopes one day return as a son that would make her proud - and also to finish the rest of the bottle she started.

The fair hand-maiden of his mother, young Marina, whom Zen still holds a fanciful crush upon - despite her being 30 years his senior.

Name and Lifestyle

Name Etimology

Originally named Zen Haukke, the origin of his first-name is largely a mystery. However, as Lady Adamadine confided to one of Zen's friends at a much later date, she remember naming him " Alfred Friedrich Holstein-Joachim von Hohenzollern Ottovordemgentschenfelde II" with his official title being "Sir Grand Reverend". Thus Zen Snowflame's original name is purported to be "Sir Grand Reverend Alfred Friedrich Holstein-Joachim von Hohenzollern Ottovordemgentschenfelde II". His mother, who was also a raging alcoholic (or "connoisseur" as she preferred to be called) during his early years, found this to be a mouthful and couldn't pronounce it whilst drunk, hence shortening it to Zen.

When Zen ran away from home after the Cellargate incident, he made the snap decision to castaway his family name in favour of a new one. It also happened to be the same night that Zen had decided to get paralytically drunk in a local tavern and passed out in a nearby snow bank. In the morning, as was custom in the area, the people hired a Thaumaturge to instead melt their snow using fire rather than letting it pile up. However, unbeknownst to the Thaumaturge and the local people, Zen had passed out in the snow pile the night before. After losing 95% of his body hair in the fire incident, this lead him to find his new surname - Snowflame.
