Personality

Andre is a very forthcoming and charming individual. He is a natural people person and indulges himself in social interactions. He possesses a very innocent and harmless demeanour naturally and is therefore seen as very approachable. In spite of this, he is a capable warrior, having served as a castle guard in Ul'dah under the Sultanate for a number of years. His prestigious position came about as a result of his noble and wealthy upbringing. He began his training from a young age as per his father's wishes to one day serve as part of the Sultansworn. Due to his easygoing nature, Andre makes friends and acquaintances rather easily and was quite popular among locals that frequented the taverns and restaurants he visited in Ul'dah. In his spare time he enjoys improving his bard skills and often enough served as one part-time in his local taverns whenever he was off duty. He is naturally a capable fighter as a result of his specialised training, though he lacks field experience as one would expect of someone his age. He has been trained in the art of the sword and shield as well as pugilism, giving him an edge in hand-to-hand combat.

Andre has been drifting from city to city in recent months. Though he brought a significant amount of his savings with him upon leaving Ul'dah, he attempts to conserve it as much as possible, using his bard skills to earn himself additional coin to get by. His reasons for abruptly leaving Ul'dah are unknown but as he was still serving as a castle guard in the city, his actions have likely been viewed as deserting and will almost certainly bring about repercussions. As a result, he cannot return to Ul'dah without endangering himself. His father remains alive and well in the city though he has heard nothing of his son ever since his abrupt departure.

Skills and Abilities

Andre has received specialized training under the Grand Company known as The Immortal Flames where we served most of his years as an apprentice, knight-in-training. He has received a certain degree of training in a manner of areas, however he is predominantly a sword and shield wielder and excelled in his training. He served as a castle guard when put on duty between training sessions but has little field experience. This does not demerit his combat abilities of course but rather may leave him lacking in 'street smarts' as it were when it comes to real-life opponents.

In addition to this, he is well trained in the art of pugilism where he was taught to defend himself in hand-to-hand combat and apprehend, subdue opponents by non-violent means as would be often expected from his role as castle and city guard.

History

Childhood

Alex was born in Limsa Lominsa, a small island off of the western coast of the Eorzean mainland. Home to the Knights of the Barracuda, the city is a bustling state of marine commerce as well as being a fabled pirate hideout.

Having never met his mother, Alex's father is the only family whose existence he was aware of until he drank himself to death many years later. Not once had he exhibited any paternal care or responsibility for his son other than allowing him residence in their deplorable excuse for a home which would better be described as a rundown shack-in-the-making. As a result, Alex had to learn to fend for himself at a young age, often enough being the victim of bullying from bigger kids. He spent many days searching for pretty seashells to sell as decorative pieces as well as oysters, in the hopes of finding pearls, as a means of getting by. Having met an elderly man fishing one of the days, he was taught how to fish with a sharpened stick. Feeling sorry for the misfortuante child, the man even offered him an old rod for which he would then use to try and fish for food, and on good days, sell the excess for extra coin.

However, not all days were good and the young boy was constantly on the lookout for new ways to earn money, trying to take up small errands and odd jobs for adults in return for some meager coin. It was by the time he was around eight years old that he first associated directly with the pirates of the area. Having sneaked into a tavern in search of work from it's lowly inhabitants, he stumbled across a rowdy bunch of pirates. Naive that he was, the child wasn't going to let their intimidating attributes stand between him and the chance of a meal that night. He asked if they had any errands he could run for them in return for coin. The group of pirates expectantly took advantage of the young boys naivety and offered him respectable reward in return for stealing possessions from shops and and pickpocketing alike. Even had he done this on his own, the boy would have nowhere to turn in the stolen goods without alerting the merchants. Though the coin they offered him was still rather meager, it was certainly much more than he would earn through his other methods. They taught him the art of pickpocketing and diversions, instructing him to first practice on the already drunken slobs in that pit labelled as a tavern. Getting the hang of it quite quickly, the boy committed his first theft the same day from the tavern keeper. The pirates cheered for his success and offered him his coin as promised, for they knew they could take whole advantage of the young boy's innocence in the future.

Adolescence

As he grew into his adolescent years, he was no longer th young and naive boy being taken advantage of in the face of hunger. He was at this point living semi-comfortably as a result of excessive theft and special tasks he had performed for pirates who weren't too happy with particular residents of the city. He was offered very fair coin in return for attacking various members of the public, particularly those that had caused them trouble by refusing service to them or deliberately closing their store doors whenever they had docked into the port. The city itself was unused to experiencing trouble outside of it's pirate inhabitants. Taking advantage of this, Alex committed most attacks under the cover of the night, resulting in him never being identified as the assailant. His experience with the pirates had taught him many things and had hardened him into a capable fighter and criminal.

Shortly after turning seventeen Alex decided he had had enough using his potential to the greater betterment of those who exploited him. He packed up the little he had to declare as his belongings and journeyed to the Eorzean mainland, leaving the city and lifestyle behind him.

Following this he partook in various criminal activities to help himself earn coin to travel to the city of Ul'dah. Upon arriving there he began establishing himself as a bounty hunter for hire. He honed his skills and battle prowess by training his thaumaturge abilities, weaponry skills and pugilism techniques at respective guilds in Ul'dah. Following many years of dedication and exceptionally demonstrated talent, Alex Hawthorn was no longer a tool, but rather the architect to his own criminal success. A bounty hunter with no morals and no boundaries.

Family

Mother: Eleanor Winter Little is known about Alex's mother. She died in the process of giving birth to him and due to the very short time her and her husband had been in Limsa Lominsa, very few citizens were aware of her existence.

Father: Robert Winter

Robert Winter is a wealthy merchant and banker that resides in Ul'dah. He had strong ties with the Sultanate and therefore easily secured a future position for his newborn son, Andre, as a Sultansworn, a prestigious position where he would be declared a paladin and protector of the Sultante. It was in his best wishes for his son to hold such an honorary title and uphold their family name. In addition to this, he had often spoke of having his son marry the young daughter of another noble acquaintance. However, Andre had fled Ul'dah before any such arrangements could have been made between him and his young suitress.

Other Notes

You might know me from

Citizens from Ul'dah may be familiar with a young and very lively lute player that partook in musical arrangements in certain taverns and restaurants. He was very sociable and approachable, notably popular with young women.

Similarly, particular locals may recall an incident where said lute player got involved in a bar brawl and seriously injured another Hy'ur.

City officials, particularly members of the Immortal Flames would be familiar with his name and face as a result of him being wanted for desertion. His crime was not viewed as particularly severe so little concern would be cast over his whereabouts in Eorzea. Being spotted in Ul'dah however would certainly result in immediate apprehension were he to be recognised.
