Appearance & Personality

Shintaro is short; for an Au Ra at least. He stands at 6'0 with a well-toned body due to mercenary work; however it has seen better days. His body carries multiple scars and burn marks which he goes to a great effort hide beneath his armor and clothing. His skin is extremely pale and his hair is unkempt and wild, likely due to the fact he hardly takes off his helmet. His one visible eye is somewhat sunken due to stress. When he takes off his eyepatch, it's revealed that his other eye has lost it's limbal ring and is scarred heavily, with many wounds surrounding it.
This is all accompanied by a medium-pitched voice, leaning towards the lower spectrum. He has a very expressive voice, and you can easily tell when he's joking and the like, if not through his voice, then through his also expressive face. You can always see him wear his armor and helmet no matter where he goes, although when he goes visiting cities in his spare time, he will sometimes don a jackcoat or even take off his helmet to reveal his eyepatch.
Despite his rather harsh upbringing, Shin has grown into a rather friendly young man, although he has difficulty truly expressing himself when it comes to talking about what he wants from others or from life. He adores helping other people, be it through his mercenary work or simple volunteer work. Apart from being involved from him however, he keeps a relatively aloof nature about him, finding it hard to approach others. (This also applies vice versa, since he seems to have an intimidating nature whenever he has his armor and helmet on.)

Biography

1542-1561

Childhood
Shintaro was born into the Tumet tribe, one of the many tribes of the Xaela, who unlike the Raen that had settled down, still traveled the lands and communicated or fought with other tribes. Shin grew up relatively normally, he did what any other child in tribe did, such as learning how to hunt, cooking, taking care of wounds, and everything else. His family treated him normally as well. But, when the any child born into the Tumet reaches their tenth summer, they must pass a rite to confirm their place in the tribe and to receive a name. The rite involves being tied to a sacred tree while the rest of the tribe packs up and heads to a new campsite. If you manage to free yourself, you are granted your place in the tribe along with a name. Those who fail, however, often end up dying.
He failed miserably of course. Within the hour he passed out due to heat exhaustion and nearly died; if not for the case of being found by passing Raen. These three Raen, who would become his adoptive father, mother, and sister, had mercy on him, taking him back to their village to the east till he woke up. Upon doing so, his situation was explained to him by his adoptive father, Imame. With an almost unusual acceptance, Shintaro merely took in the fact he was truly abandoned by his tribe.
His new father, mother and sister (Imame, Kuyomi, and Momo respectively) treated Shintaro with very delicate fingers. They often made sure he was comfortable in his new home before he finally settled in and was able to call the Raen his family. He was able to live peacfully, until he turned 14, where he had started to travel outside into the village more. Unfortunately, the village Shintaro resided in was more opposed to the idea of a Xaela living with them. Whenever Shin would travel outside, he'd often be bullied for his Xaela lineage, often coming home with some sort of wound on his body.
The bullying took a great deal on Shintaro and his family, both physically and mentally. He'd often just stay inside, doing nothing more than helping around the house or sleeping and avoided going outside more than anything. His family suffered for taking him in as well, his father also suffering wounds while his mother and sister would be publicly slandered, but they all endured somehow.
Teenage
Shintaro and his family went through the hardships until 4 years had passed. He was 18 now, although he was suffering a great deal along with his adoptive family. How they still continued to love Shintaro and not disown him is still a mystery to him, but he was glad they never gave up on him. But the hatred in the village never did stop.
It was during a fateful night that certain residents of the village stormed the Kisaragi house, where they tortured and killed his family in front of his eyes. He could only watch as each of them screamed in pain, all because of himself. In a vain attempt, Shintaro tried to protect his sister Momo from harm, but ended up losing sight in his left eye as a result.
"Know that this is all because of you, Xaela. Know that you will never be accepeted by the Raen." These were the parting words of the villagers who had murdered his family. It was here Shintaro imposed his own self-exile from the village. He took the clothes on his back, a spear, and some handouts from the few residents who pitied him and left hastily, eager to try and find a new life.

1561 - 1577

Kisaragi continued to travel west, often taking freelance or mercenary work where he could. Information gathering, monster hunting, all of the like Shintaro did in order to provide for himself, but he still found himself sleeping outside with only enough money to eat. He somehow found passage onto a ship that led to Eorzea, where he now lives his current life.
Before he had come to Eorzea, Shin ran into many people like himself, trying to find a place to stay, trying to eat, and the such. He often helped these people out as best as he could, usually by giving them what little money he had, but was just happy he could be of help to others.

1577 - Present

Shintaro currently lives as he did when he was traveling to the west. He wanders around Eorzea, often taking up jobs where he can and usually sleeping outside. He's content with how he is currently living, just glad to be able to live without being ostracized by others. He has no set goals, nor any real dreams to consider, but is only instead trying to find his place in the world.
