Appearance & Personality

Long black hair falling past his neck in the back and bangs that often fall before his eyes, Oliver's appearance alone gives off an impression of a barrier between him and the world; a barrier that isn't actually quite there. Beneath his relatively thick hair, however, is a man whose face is actually well kept. Free of any blemishes, his face as a whole is clear as the sky on a sunny day. In the shade, his eyes look almost black, yet with enough lighting their true deep blue color is revealed. A bit of hair clusters around his chin, but it's groomed relatively well and barely scratchy. Aside from his facial features, Oliver is a mostly average Midlander. He stands at approximately five-foot, eight-inches. He's relatively thin, but when without clothes, one can see the growing amount of lean muscle he has, as well as the outline of what appears to be abs growing in, touching it would confirm such a thought, and, although he won't boast about it, he is relatively proud of the muscle. As of recently, however, he does seem to have been growing a bit more in muscle mass; nothing quite spectacular, but the change is evident.
Socially, Oliver has changed immensely in just a short few months. Snarky, stubborn, and quite a bit cynical, he's the kind of man that can annoy someone as easily as he can befriend them. To most, he's quite the gentleman, even with his overly sarcastic demeanor. Yet to some, he's simply the king of snark. The woman closest to him since Al's death, Madam Seraphine, a woman that hated him before she learned to like him, is the best example of such. For the most part, Oliver is content with his life. He can actually be described as a bit of an optimist, despite his pragmatic tendencies. He puts a lot of faith in the people close to him, perhaps even when he shouldn't. Because he's stubborn as all hells, he tends to go down with the ship, so to speak. Putting all of his eggs in one basket doesn't help this, but he's aware of this habit learning from this mistake. Even if a bit slowly, though his overly emotional attitude certainly isn't helping. Contrary to his nonchalant outward appearance, Oliver's mind is always racing. He pays attention to some of the smallest details in a person and draws presumptions based upon them, usually accurately. His mind is as sharp as his tongue can be.

Biography

Childhood

A bastard child with no siblings and a mother whom was never around, Oliver Amaranth spent the majority of his early life alone. Raised by his grandparents until he turned five, upon returning home, he was greeted by an incredibly young Miqo’te only ten years his elder. She introduced herself as Kaelai, a woman hired by his mother to teach him. Books of all shapes and sizes, fiction and nonfiction became the boy’s closest companions as he was taught to read. As Kaelai spent more and more time with the young Hyur, she began to view him as a child, treating him as her own. To Oliver, she was the only mother he had ever known. All of his affection was given to her. Upon Oliver's finishing of every book in the home, Kaelai would leave to the markets, purchasing more with the gil out of her own pocket to keep him happy. None of her effort was wasted; Oliver, albeit a lonely child, lived a happy childhood due to the Keeper's role in his life.

Teenage

Yet as happy as Oliver may have been, his joy was thoroughly stripped from him upon his birthday, when his mother came home for the first time in fourteen years. Despite her wealth, Allison Amaranth determined Kaelai’s services were no longer required and promptly dismissed her from her duties, much to the dismay of Oliver. His pleads attempted to reason with a woman with closed ears. As Kaelai said her goodbyes, Oliver embraced the Miqo’te with a river of tears falling from his cheeks. He gave the woman his thanks, which she promptly denied. None of their time together felt like work, she told him, further stating that she enjoyed every second of it. With a heavy heart, Oliver watched her go.
Weeks went by for the teenage Oliver. Nothing improved. Having left as quickly as she came, his mother left him alone in an empty house. Every day, he’d leave his home, wandering the streets of Ul’dah in an attempt to find the woman. Those he asked for information would simply tell him they hadn’t seen her since. His efforts seemingly in vain, he had just about given up when someone finally gave him a lead. Momodi Modi informed him that the woman he sought after had left to Limsa the very same day she was fired. It was where she had come from to begin with, Momodi informed him. This was all Oliver needed to take initiative. When he returned home, he broke into his mother's safe and took as much gil as he could carry within his pockets and bags and fled to the city-state of Limsa Lominsa, optimistic that he'd soon be reacquainted with the only family he ever had.
Whatever optimism he had had when heading to Limsa Lominsa had all but left the boy in one short month. Foreign and massive, the pirate city of Eorzea led Oliver through shady alleys and taverns without so much of a trace of the woman. Every day spent searching was another day wasted for nothing. At the end of the month, Oliver had given up. With half the gil he had stolen from his biological mother, he rented out a room in the Mizzenmast Inn for a time longer than he might live, and stayed shut within the confides of it, surviving on meals he had delivered to him at the cost of more gil. As lost as he may have been, Mizzenmast Inn still became more of a home to him than the Amaranth Estate in Ul'dah.
Saddened as he may have been, Oliver began to step outside of his room once more after the passing of a week. Exploring the city found him the Arcanists' Guild, a building practically overflowing with books. With the standing-in guildmaster Thubyrgeim's permission, Oliver frequented the guild for the sake of reading the many titles upon each and every shelf. As he had with Kaelai, he grew rather fond of the quirky, even a bit eccentric K'lyhia. Over time, hormone-ridden teenage self even began to fall for the foreseer, but it was just a short-lived crush. She was nice to him, and that was all that mattered.
At around sixteen, he met Klara Longfrost, a Highlander woman that brought a sparkle to Oliver's eyes, and Allimance Twenty. Klara was in and out of his life over the course of a couple of weeks, but her quiet and kind nature left a lasting impression on him. Al, on the other hand, would spend the six years with Oliver. Although initially hired as a bodyguard, Oliver and Al became inseparable. He eventually stopped paying altogether, and they'd simply wander around Limsa, brothers in spite of their racial and age gap.
Between eighteen and twenty-two, Oliver left Limsa Lominsa for the first time in four years to Gridania, where he honed his skill with a bow in the Archer's Guild.

Present

Since hitting twenty-two, Oliver's life has been filled with women, booze, adventure, and women. He met Khara, Reijin, and Saikhan Chinua (dubbed the threesome trio by him) at the Quiet Raven, an inn within the Lavender Beds that the four of them stayed at for quite. When they left, he quickly followed with them to the Pathfinder Society, where, after a recent tragedy that left him finally without funds, he has finally taken the initiative to work as a Scout. A free room and home to stay in, once more with the Chinua, was just an added bonus.
In his adulthood, Oliver has also had encounters with a reasonable amount of women as well. First of which was Lalah'to Elekha, a Miqo'te with whom he felt for strongly. Yet they simply didn't have much in common, and eventually the two split-up on bad terms. Jejha, or Redfang Viperblood was the second. She nearly cost him his left arm with a venomous bite (scar of which remains), but she confronted him with his feelings, he confessed. While they were much more compatible than his previous relationship with Lalah'to, this also ended when Jejha disappeared without a trace. Though he was heartbroken for months, he eventually moved on. There have been several flings between, enough for Al to call him a manwhore, but nothing quite like what he had with his first two.
Currently, Oliver is continuing to work with the Pathfinder Society. Several ongoing events within his life leave him on edge, but he's doing all in his power to mask it with his usual snark.

◢ Rare Rumors (Very difficult or rarely overheard)

"Al, Oliver called him. His best friend? He shot him right in the heart with an arrow! Imagine what he'd do to someone else!"
◢ PC Rumors (Rumors from the character's of other players)
Madam Seraphine: "When I see his face, I feel so annoyed at life itself. When I hear him talk, it's like my mind goes to mush by his sass. But even through the hardships he's caused me, I can't truly hate him. Or his charming hat. The Amaranth Effect. It's real. A real pain."
Minox Moks: "Oi..Olivah. Tha lad be a odd bowl o nuts tha be fer sure. Though most o tha time, I see em moppin' 'bout as if someone broke 'is bow strings. Eithah way, always full o surprises tha one. RELATIONS

Romantic Interest Platonic Love Good Standing Poor Standing
Minox Moks - "...Then be me storm then? C...can I keep ya?" These words - Nox's own words - are etched into Oliver's memory, a smile curling upon his lips at the mere thought of such. Though she hasn't said it directly, she doesn't need to; Oliver knows that she at the very least finds him intriguing enough to want to be around, to kiss. Her description of him only brought a chuckle from him. How had she not seen it before? She may have usually found herself attracted to men of flames, by her own words. Yet when she spoke of how she viewed him, Oliver immediately realized that she described him as a storm. He would gladly be her storm, promising to do all within his power to not hurt her. Now that their feelings are out in the open, he longs to see her once more. He loves her, after all, and this only gets more and more solidified as time goes on.
Madam Seraphine In the short time they've known each other, their relationship has traveled from opposite ends of the spectrum. Multiple times. At first, Oliver saw Sera as just an attractive woman whom happened to be friends with his fling's doppelganger. It wasn't long before the two despised each other, with her attempting to have him arrested over a false charge. Perhaps the fact that she drained him of aether and left him for dead should have added to his hatred for her.. but it didn't. For whatever reason, Oliver only found her enticing. Over time, their relationship has developed into one of mutual respect, with the two playfully bantering back and forth whenever in contact, which happens to be often. They seem to have a penchant for being at the same place at the same time. Denying that he finds her highly attractive is silly; given the nature of their past, she most definitely knows this fact. Despite this, even if Ollie feels he could love her, she's informed him that she can't love, thus removing any hopes that maybe they could have a relationship more than just friends. That, and he's deeply infatuated with Nox. Her whereabouts being unknown to him, he's constantly looking over his shoulder, hoping to avoid the woman.
Serris Le'omend - Serris, like many of Oliver's friends, started off as a bit of an enemy. Yet now, he can't help but respect the Momcat. She's comforted him as he's comforted her.. and she's also a fantastic wingwoman.
Allimance Twenty (deceased) - Killed by his arrow to the heart, Oliver cried over the body of his friend for hours. By the first, tears had stopped falling, but it wasn't until the fourth that he managed to rise from the corpse. Al had been the brother Oliver never had. Yet when darkness corrupted the Raen's heart, bringing him to kill entire families before attempting to slaughter Oliver himself, Oliver had no choice but to end the life of his friend (though he was not alone, with Saikhan Chinua being the deciding factor in the battle, having distracted Al). Nothing that had happened in Oliver's life could compare to the pain he felt as he watched the life leave Al's eyes. Perhaps nothing ever will.
