Appearance & Personality

Clad mostly in browns and mossy greens, Lali'to most often blends into the forest. His hair is long and brown, usually wild and untamed but he sometimes makes an effort to tie it back. He is tall and lanky, and is surprisingly strong for his frame, with the muscular build of a striker. Angular features and a stoic disposition make him sometimes appear older than he is.
He's is more at home skipping rocks at the edge of a remote pond than he would be in any sort of social situation. Despite his aversion to people, there are those he likes, and even some whose company he enjoys- though he likes animals far more. If Lali'to considers someone a friend, he will remain loyal and steadfast until death or betrayal.
Stubborn to a fault, he values freedom above all else and loathes any attempts to control him. He can, however, be prone to letting people he likes or respects take advantage of him.
Anyone who makes an effort to get to know him will find that he is intelligent, despite being functionally illiterate, and has a surprisingly witty sense of humor.

Biography

Childhood
Lali'to had a considerably tumultuous childhood. He was born to a small tribe of Keepers who were violently driven from their home in the Shroud. Afterward, what was left of his fractured family struggled to make ends meet. They were constantly traveling, trying to find work and a place to stay. As a result he often went without food or shelter. The only child that remained in a two-family tribe, Lali'to rarely had other children to play with. Due to their high-risk situation he was also taught to be quiet at all times.
Growing up in a mourning family often left Lali neglected. His mother turned to Somnus as a way to escape from the grief of losing half of her family, so he was passed from one adult to the next. Her neglect would eventually lead to losing her only child, when one day at age four during a supply run to Gridania he was kidnapped.
(Because of the horrific nature of his time with his abductor, and the fact that he does not- at least claims not to- remember it, I am leaving it out of this page. If you are terribly interested, ask me in private.)
Teenage
At age nine, after five years of captivity, Lali'to managed to escape into the Twelveswood while his captor was involved in a brief altercation along the road. He fled into the forest, running as fast and as far as he could until he collapsed from exhaustion, exposure and malnourishment.
A Duskwight woman found him and took pity on him. After nursing him back to health, she decided to allow him to stay with her and raise him as her own. It was her patience, kindness, and eventual love for him that was his saving grace after a life of tragedy. He lived with her in the Shroud until he was twenty.
His teenage years were spent taking odd jobs at the nearby stables, hunting, selling fish he caught in the river, and being happily secluded from the society that had so far caused him nothing but trauma.

Present

Two years ago, Lalito's adoptive mother contracted an illness that proved fatal. For several months he cared for her as she had cared for him, feeding and dressing her and remaining calm through feverish outburts. Toward the end, she was barely coherent, but managed to impart a final wish upon her beloved miqo'te child.
"Explore, and see the world as you see the forest."
He has yet to fulfill her wish.

RUMORS

Some of these rumors are untrue or are greatly exaggerated. Please feel free to add your own rumors under PC!

Common Rumors (Easily overheard)
Have you seen that dirty Keeper they have shoveling manure at Bentbranch? He must have stolen something.
I saw him running from one of the Wailers once. They didn't have a chance-- he disappeared before they could even reach him with a lance.
If you watch him fishing at Fallgourd, I swear he catches some of the biggest catfish I've ever seen.
I tried to ask him what tribe he was from once, or if he wanted a place to stay, but he wouldn't respond. He just stared! I think he's a mute.
Moderate Rumors (Moderately difficult to overhear)
He used to run around with one of the Greys... She probably picked him up as a guard dog.
He looks a little scary, like some wild animal, but if you take a minute to talk to him he's very kind.
Rare Rumors (Very difficult or rarely overheard)
That boy is an animal. A couple of Wailers cornered him once, I think they thought he'd stolen something from the Stalls. He knocked one out with a single punch, and shoved the other so hard he fell right on his ass. Didn't say a word the whole time, just booked it out of there.
