Well-toned [edit] Personality & Appearance Interactions Miscellaneous P E R S O N A L I T Y Shintaro is a rather friendly young man, despite his harsh upbringing. He loves to tease other people, but hates being teased as well, often resulting in him reacting in rather angrily or even being embarrassed sometimes. He very much loves to joke around, and is also very open with his emotions. However, he keeps most of his thoughts to himself, and isn't a very pushy person. In fact, he's actually quite weak and is very easily overwhelmed by people who have very direct personalities. Once you get under that metal helmeted exterior of his, you'll find that he's someone who genuinely cares for others, and does his best to help where he can. He treats everyone the same (unless there are certain circumstances surrounding someone) and tries his best to never judge someone based on rumors or first impressions. He could also be described as absent-minded, or just plain lazy. He doesn't know what he wants from life and doesn't have any really big dreams, other than just wanting to get on day-by-day. Apart from actually having ever interacting with him, many people describe their first impression of him as either intimidating (likely due to the fact he rarely takes off his helmet) or describe him as aloof. L I K E S ■ Helping Others : After his adoptive family helped him, he grew to learn to help others in any way he could. He loves to offer his services as a mercenary, freelancer, or just as someone volunteering. He finds no greater joy in helping another person with their problems and relieving them of stress or making them happy. ■ Appreciating nature : Shintaro is often out traveling by himself, and through his time alone, he has learned to greatly appreciate nature and all of it's elements, except for the scorching heat. ■ Alone Time & Solitude : Despite loving to talk to and tease people, Shintaro loves nothing more than being able to sit down and listen to the wind blowing or just standing where he is and closing his eyes to enjoy the silence of certain places. ■ Talking : After being abandoned by his clan and traveling mostly alone for a year and a half, he's grown to immensely value what conversations he has with other people. D I S L I K E S ■ Hot Weather : He can't stand any hot climate whatsoever, as it causes him to sweat profusely in his armor. ■ Working/Helping Himself : Despite Shintaro's love of helping other people with their problems, he has no qualms about skipping on his own work. He often ends up sleeping outside with only enough money to eat food and provide for himself for a few days. ■ Being Injured : Shintaro is a coward when it comes to fighting (despite his job as a mercenary), something he has no trouble admitting to. His aversion to being injured stems from when he failed to protect his sister, and lost his left eye as a result. ■ Being Touched : On top of an aversion to being injured, he has an aversion to being touched. He grows uncomfortable, sometimes to extreme circumstances, when he's being touched and often begins to stutter and grow nervous as a result, no matter who's touching him. He's slowly growing out of it, but he still has a great fear of it. O T H E R ■ Idleness : Shintaro is an extremely lazy individual, and when he's not helping others, doing mercenary work, or anything else, you can often find him spending his time either sleeping anywhere or doing nothing at a tavern. ■ True Neutral : Despite his glaring passion of helping others, he holds a relatively neutral stance on most things. He hates taking sides and tries to mediate situations so both parties are happy in the end, and only takes jobs unless he knows he'll definitely be paid. A P P E A R A N C E Shintaro is short; for an Au Ra at least. He stands at 6'0 with a well-toned body due to mercenary work; however it has seen better days. His body carries multiple scars and burn marks which he goes to a great effort to hide beneath his armor and clothing. His skin is extremely pale and his hair is unkempt and wild, likely due to the fact he rarely takes off his helmet. His one visible eye is somewhat sunken due to stress. When he takes off his eyepatch, it's revealed that his other eye has lost it's limbal ring and is scarred heavily, with many wounds surrounding it. : This is all accompanied by a medium-pitched voice, leaning towards the lower spectrum. He has a very expressive voice, and you can easily tell when he's joking and the like, if not through his voice, then through his also expressive face. You can always see him wear his armor and helmet no matter where he goes, although when he goes visiting cities in his spare time, he will sometimes don a jackcoat or even take off his helmet to reveal his eyepatch. Body : A run-of-the-mill mercenary body. He's well-toned, but not built for that matter. He's roughly 6'0 and has nothing really unusual about his body. Skin : He's quite pale and carries quite a bit of scars and a few burn marks, which he goes to a great length to hide underneath his armor and clothing. Hair : His hair is as black as can be, but shines in any type of light, be it sunlight or moonlight. It's very messy due to him rarely taking off his helmet. His hair may look messy but it smells of herbs, since he often rubs his helmet and even his hair sometimes, in various plants so he doesn't reek of sweat. Eyes : His left has lost most of it's sight, as well as it's limbal ring. He can only see shapes and shades of black and grey, but keeps it covered to conserve energy. His right eye is black with a white limbal ring surrounding it. Distinguishing Features : Mostly his left eye. It lacks a limbal ring and is scarred from all sides, he's usually very ashamed to show it to anyone. He also has a rather large scar on his chest; it's right over his heart and is x-shaped. He also has various other scars, but he keeps most of them hidden with his clothing and armor. Voice / Accent / Speaking style : Shintaro is one to speak his feelings. By default, he usually has a medium pitched voice, however, when he's happy, it tends to be a pitch higher, when he's angry, it's rather low, and the like. It's easy to detect sarcasm, anger, and the like due to his very expressive voice. C O M B A T Shintaro is a mercenary for a living, but is actually a coward at heart. He fears others and himself being injured, and would rather resolve conflicts with talk if possible. Although, when it comes down to it, he is no slouch with the lance. Although not formally trained as a Dragoon during his time in Ishgard, he received training from one and has extensive knowledge on their techniques and the like. In addition to his prowess with the lance, he goes through the time and effort to do any research on any monsters available in order to learn their vital spots and weak points, which goes hand in hand with his motto of ending battles before they begin. She stumbled upon Shin when she was moping about her studies on alchemy in Ul'dah. Shintaro cares a great deal for Luca and takes on an air of easiness whenever around her, something akin to a caretaker. She's one of the first friends he has had in a long while and values her company greatly. Even though they have trouble talking sometimes, Shintaro knows he would cross great distances to ensure she leads a safe life. Lucaell Tareth'eian ( ● ) - Good-hearted Annoyance Shintaro met Lucaell when she arrived at his house, next to the one she was supposed to perform for. At first, Shintaro thought of Lucaell as only an annoyance, but after discovering that they both lived the same lifestyle and that she had a great passion hidden under that oh-so annoying exterior of hers, he now thinks of her as only a minor annoyance and something akin to a friend. While he often expresses his disdain for her, he greatly appreciates her presence and finds her annoying traits as refreshing. He'd still like to smack her upside the head though. Sakana Kawatou ( ● ) - Annoying Girl Shintaro met Sakana when he was guarding his Company house. The two quickly bickered and bonded, with the two teasing each other a great amount. While Shintaro does find Sakana to be a nuisance and goes out of his way to annoy her, he does have a lot of patience for her, often obliging to whatever activities she may have in mind. After learning that the both of them share a similar past, he holds Sakana in a much higher regard than he did initially. He'd still suplex her though.
