Basic Info
Licia is a relatively shy, but positive Mi'qote girl just trying to get by in life. Having to deal with forced abandonment and alienation at a young age has hardened her heart, so she is happy to meet new folks, but hard to truly trust them. She's very talented in the ways of magic and is fairly good with a bow after years of training in the wood. She currently runs a small Free Company with her psuedo-brother Kheda'ya[1], and close friend Delis Mansel.
History
Licia is a Mi'qote taboo. Her father was a talented Seeker of the Sun healer. Her mother a summoning prodigy from a Keeper of the Moon clan. Her parents met by chance, and fell in love. They knew that their relationship would be frowned upon by many clans, and it wasn't until her mother was pregnant with her did they realize the hardships their family was going to endure. Licia's mother kept her father's identity a secret for many years, but as Licia matured her father's physical properties began to show, as few females in the clan had light skin, and she did not bare the facial markings that all other members of the tribe did. When the tribe's Matron noticed this, she questioned Licia's mother. She denied it, and hid her lover's identity for many months, but the Matron discovered her affair with her own investigation.
Upon the discovery, the Clan Matron told Licia's mother to leave the village, that she was no longer welcome after defiling their tribe. The conversation shifted towards the young Licia, and how best to handle her. After a short debate, the Matron decided it would be best for Licia to remain in the village to "be raised as a proper Mi'qote". With much regret, Licia's mother agreed and left quietly, never to be seen again.
This, however, did not work as well as Licia had hoped. The villagers all knew of her heritage, of the taboo her parents committed. All of the adults treated her like an alien, and warned their children not to talk to her. Many of the villagers did not even recognize her existence at times. Only one older child, Kheda'ya Zahre.[2], talked to her. He thought the adults treating her this way, just because of her birth, was ridiculous. He protected her, and scolded the others whenever they disrespected her.
After things did not change, a few years later Licia had enough. With the help of Kheda'ya she escaped the village and made her way to Gridania on her own. There she found an orphanage run by a Wildwood Elezen woman as gentle as she was beautiful, named Kervana Kline. She took Licia in, and she spent the next 7 years there, learning the city and honing her natural talents. She quickly found she inherited a natural attunement to the healing and summoning artes from her parents, and the training she had with a bow from her time in the village was ideal for a life of adventuring and mercenary work. Using her skills and quick wit allowed her to help the orphanage out, and eventually even start her own life after leaving it at the age of 16. Upon leaving the orphanage Licia requested of Kervana if she could use her surname, as she wished to leave her past behind. Kervana felt honored by this request and allowed it, thus bringing to life the name of Licia Kline, thus finally dropping her last connection to her tribe.
It was by luck, perhaps even fate, that some years later that Licia got hired for a job, and she was to have a partner for it as the mark had proven to be quite difficult for other adventurers. It was then she became reunited with Kheda'ya, who she hadn't seen since she left the village nearly 13 years ago. As if they'd been together the entire time, they took down their mark and decided to stick together after that. A few months down the line they then encountered another individual, Delis Mansel. The three of them became best of friends in a short time, and decided to start up their own Free Company which they named Envisage of Night. This brings us to the present day.
Personality
Licia tends to be very friendly and upbeat, which is a trait she learned from the orphanage caretaker. Kervana always told her to greet everyone with a smile, and it just rubbed off on her after all her years at the orphanage. Licia has an easy time making friends, but because of the emotional scarring from her childhood, it's very difficult for her to truly trust someone. Considering someone like a member of a family is out of the question. She tends to get flustered easily by her childhood friend, Kheda, but otherwise rarely gets bothered by others.
